1. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2026/04/gm-defense-could-build-military-vehicles-in-oshawa-mayor-says/ Oshawa has built pick ups for the Canadian Armed Forces in the past. 1976: Spring of 1981:
2. I can't see them being all that serious about ramping up inventory after eliminating the 3rd shift in Oshawa.
3. Googling to see if any update on St Kitts https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/national-business/gm-to-build-electric-motors-at-st-catharines-propulsion-plant-6583688#:~:text=AP-Paul Sancya-,ST.,20%2C 2023.&text=Have a story idea? I wonder if a lot of that will be out the window w/ the Brightdrop van being discontinued?
4. 'Propulsion'... I guess after all these years it is rocket science (inside joke).
5. Thanks guys. Something didnt seem right to me about it. Also, about the engines that were being assembled, are they still in production & are they built in the same facility as the truck motors? To my uneducated eye, the process seemed more low production/handbuilt vs high volume. Then again I was never in the St Catherines plant during an actual shift.
6. How accurate is this video: To my eyes, some of the footage seems inaccurate. One shot has a motor w/ a clutch instead of a flywheel. Another has upswept headers rather than cast iron manifolds. And really Mary Barracuda pleased that it's an ICE... I'm not sure why she's on the 'teaser' shot. Finally isn't the new motor scheduled to come out in MY2027?
7. T1XX I dont know if GM has an internal breakdown for the code. IIRC GMT953 was what we referred to the retooling in Oshawa when we went from extended cab to crew cab production. I think the extended cabs were GMT943s. Please correct me if I have these crossed up.
8. No I didnt.
9. Dressed up for the upcoming season The nephew wired interior & exterior lights in it a week ago:
10. In the past I've run a bead across the top of the drawbar & then filed it down so that it is snug in the receiver.
11. Ive had black ones in the past on my regular cabs. The chrome ones are way too gaudy for my liking.
12. They mention Exxon Superflo, which I think was intro'd in the late 80s.
13. @Chuck FB did you ever see this brochure in the past? I picked it up @ an Esso station here in Ontario quite a few years ago. I'm guessing in the 90s (no date on it) before synthetics became commonplace.
14. When I left Oshawa Truck in 2008, that was half a shift's production. I bought a 2024 a year ago September. 30,000 klicks later it's been back to the dealer twice for the fee oil changes. EDIT: Build date for the truck was June 2023.
15. Boy aren't you a ray of sunshine...
16. How tall is it? You may not need it to check the oil, but have you found it useful when doing an oil change? I have used a 3 step ladder in the past during oil changes on my previous K2XX 2500HD (ladder in the front & the truck on a set of 12" ramps). I'm 6' 2" as well. W/ the T1XX version of the HDs, I have read here & elsewhere online that the oil fill is somewhat awkward to reach compared to the K2XX. I am awaiting the 6.6L oil fill funnel adapter too.
17. Is it rattling when the trailer is hitched to the truck or not? If its the latter, just remove it when you dont need it. Personally Ive just gone w/ 2 1/2" drawbars over the years.
18. Will visors reduce the 'buffeting' if you have the rear windows down a bit?
19. I knew how we set them back in the days of the GMT400, but never saw the assembly process for the later 800 and 900 models.
20. To the unwashed his joke was *Regina the city that rhymes with fun*
21. Thanks for explaining things to our friends south of the border. My parents went thru the useless Ontario arbitration process in the 80s when the faulty stereo in their G van kept killing the battery...
22. Thats easier said than done. They have a legal department, what does the Average Joe have?
23. From my toolbox: I wouldve gotten the button from my father. My father was a draftsman there from before it opened in 1965 and retired in 1986. I spent 2 stints in the plant as a tool & die maker from 1985 to 1988. I saw the last 2 years of C/K assembly & the changeover to the GMT400. Then back in '97 to '08 for the GMT800 & GMT900 models.

24. Then there was the switch from to 400 Pontiac motor to the 6.6 L (403 CI) Olds motors in Firebirds which disappointed enthusiasts.
25. Late replying on this 1, but I know in the US there is the Magnusson Moss Warranty Act that forbids OEMs from forcing you to use 'their' proprietary oil. This comes up a lot in the snowmobile forums where Cat, Polaris or BRP would say 'You have to use our oil.' Im sure members from the US can expand on this.
