  1. I could’ve worded it better. It’s not so much that the new ones are supposed to produce fewer emissions, but that they’re supposed to burn the soot at a higher temp to prevent egr clogging.
  2. GM has approved the repurchase of my 2024 L8T custom. So, I'm looking for my next truck. I've decided to move to the Duramax because of cross-country towing. I know the 2024 Duramax has been upgraded and is theoretically supposed to be more efficient and produce less emissions. So, theoretically, there should be fewer emission efforts. I'd kind of like more options than my Custom, but that's all that's in my budget for a new one. I can purchase a low-mileage High Country for the same price. I'm trying to decide if the new engine makes it worth it. Anyone with insight?
  3. I don’t disagree with you. But, there does seem to be something with the 2024 in particular. I had a 2020 Custom with no problems whatsoever. I polled one 2020+ group (the rest were exclusively 2024), and that group has only one person with electrical problems, despite being the largest group. I really feel like there’s something to it. I’m sure they will get it worked out, but many of the new ones seem to have gremlins.
  4. After seeing a number of posts in online groups with similar electrical problems as mine, I did a poll of each group. 210 responded and 23 percent of them who had a 2024 reported electrical issues. I recognize this isn't a scientific poll, but this is significant for a truck that has been in circulation for such a short time. The problems vary greatly. My safety features work only intermittently. Blindspot detection, parking sensors, and lane departure all come and go. My parking brake also disconnects/reconnects, even after having the module replaced. It even locked up my trailer brakes once at a stop, and this was after the module was replaced. Others have had their trucks need to be towed, windows go up and down, and high beams only work for 5 seconds at a time. Those are just off the top of my head.
  5. I’m having problems with mine, but it’s part of other electrical issues I’m having. My blindspot is intermittent, but it’s worse on my passenger side. Having similar issues with my back up sensors and my lane departure warning. It’s been to the dealer five times, the last time for a month, and they can’t fix it. We’re working with GM now on a possible buy back.
  6. That’s what my dealer is working on now. They aren’t positive, but they do seem optimistic. Can I ask how this work for you? It seems like they’re basically saying they’ll discount another truck for me so that I’m not out anything. Would I have to get new or could I get a used one if the dealer has one I like? Could I potentially trade into a higher trim level? Thanks so much for any info.
  7. I have a 2024 Custom gasser with 9500 miles that has had issues with the safety sensors since the first day. At first, my parking sensors would show “Parking sensor blocked. See owners manual.” It does this the majority of the time, but not all the time. Then, my issues got worse. My blindspot detection started working intermittently. Then, my lane departure sensors did the same. Works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn’t. The blindspot detection can work perfectly and then not pick up a semi-truck right beside it. It’s been to the dealership 5 times, and they’ve had it the last three weeks. They say they can recreate the problems, but not long enough to diagnose them. They’ve done a full software update and have apparently went over everything multiple times. They aren’t sure the electrical issues can be fixed. They’re going to talk with GM about trying to switch me into a different truck, but I’m not optimistic. I fear that my options will end up being to live with the bugs or take a loss, neither of which I think are reasonable since I bought a brand new truck with a full warranty. Anyone have any experience with something like this?
  8. None of the quotes are showing. Would it be possible for you to resend?
  9. So, just doing some quick math, I’m expecting to tow my fiver about 2000 miles next year. That amounts to about 16% of my total driving in the truck. Out of that, it would only be a small percentage of time that it would be pegged out at 5k. The rest of my driving is primarily unloaded and highway. I feel confident I won’t inflict any real damage to the engine with that small of a sample size. Even if I have to travel slower over steep passes, the gas truck still just makes the most sense for me. If the option for lower gears does open up, I may still jump on it to help starting on steep hills and accelerating on to the interstate, but I think I’m fine. Thanks for helping me think through that!
  10. That’s how I felt when I bought the truck. I only go one one major excursion every year where I might really challenge the truck. 95% of where I tow is in the Southeast, and there’s nothing here that I’m worried about. All combined, I probably take 6-8 trips per year, and the diesel just doesn’t seem worth it, especially after the experience I had with my f250 6.7.
  11. It’s really helpful to hear your experiences with a similar setup. It sounds like I’m just being paranoid, which I’m prone to be in things such as this. The truck towed the camper great, and I was able to tow it up a 7% grade at 60. But, with it at 5000 RPM’s, I started getting nervous about how it might do when I get in the mountains around Acadia and the Tetons. 90% of the time, I was towing 2000-2500 RPM’s and cruising through rolling hills. Starting it on hills, I could definitely feel it back there, but I could get off the line okay.
  12. A few weeks ago, my wife and I decided to upgrade to a 12k fifth wheel. It’s well within the specs of my truck on pin weight and towing capacity. We just got back from our maiden voyage, and, overall, I’m pleased with the performance of my truck. However, on some of the steeper grades, it did have trouble maintaining speeds and was above 5000 RPM’s. I love my truck and have no real desire to go back to a diesel and all their headaches. But, my wife and I have a couple of cross country trips planned to Acadia, Yellowstone, and the Tetons, and I’m concerned about some of the grades I might encounter. I’ve considered having a local shop that I trust upgrade me to 4:30 gears and putting in a cold air intake to increase torque. Has anyone considered something similar? Am I being paranoid? Do you think the change in gear ratio would make a big difference?
  13. I’ve noticed the exact same thing. It felt sluggish in the beginning, but now, I’m at 6600 miles and the torque and launch are really impressive.
  14. Today, I received a message saying that I had an update from GM that needed to be downloaded. The message came up on my infotainment screen. It said that it would take 7 minutes to update and that the vehicle would be inoperable during that time. I guess all of my vehicles have always been too old for something like this because I’ve never experienced this before. Any idea what was fixed/updated?
  15. I'm also curious about what we could do to replace the missing center console on the custom trucks. Surely someone has created a solution or replacement, but I haven't found anything.
