Today, General Motors announced that the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly facility will build a brand new, yet to be named or announced, top-tier Cadillac. The new model is expected to be unveiled during the lead up to the 2014 Detroit/North American International Autoshow in January.

According to Cadillac, the new model will be positioned above the current CTS and XTS lineups. The brand expects to announce the name for the car in the "near future". There are rumors the rear-wheel drive car will be called the "LTS." This vehicle will also be the first to get Cadillac's new "Super Cruise" technology.

The new model is expected to share design cues from the recent Elmiraj and Ciel concepts.

Production of the "high-end, high-technology" car will start in the last quarter of 2015.

The Detroit-Hamtramck facility is currently undergoing $384-million of investment and produces the Chevy Volt, Malibu, Impala, and the Cadillac ELR.

“The objective for this upcoming model is to lift the Cadillac range by entering the elite class of top-level luxury cars,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. “Currently in development, this new rear wheel drive-oriented sedan uses completely new, custom-designed materials on a unique vehicle architecture."

“In addition to new technology in the car itself, we are instituting innovative manufacturing techniques to assemble it with the precision deserving of a luxury make.”
