John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 9/11/2015 Has Cadillac lost its way? Today, Automotive News reports that Cadillac's Chief Marketing Officer Uwe Ellinghaus said the company's goal with its newest vehicle, the XT5 "... is to gain the attention of fashionistas, rather than cater to car buffs and auto journalists. Because in his view, younger customers are less interested in the technical details of cars, and don't read car magazines as often as they used to." We're not sure anyone reads any "magazines" anymore, but Mr. Ellinghaus at least seems to have a direction for the struggling luxury automaker to head in. Except that Cadillac is not heading that way according to Motor Trend's Jonny Lieberman, who reports that the next car-buff Cadillac will be an Escalade powered by the same engine as the Corvette. This follows the new CTS-V, which is targeted at car buffs and is powered by an engine like the one in the Corvette.

ABC News has reported that the suit alleges GM tried to find a cause other than its manufacturing and materials to blame the problem on. GM is also not covering the repairs of trucks out of warranty since this is not a safety hazard. However, there are reports that GM dealerships are offering to pay half of the cost of repairs. We do not have that from GM directly.
GM Trucks top this year's J.D. Power Benchmark Dependability study for 2015. The GMC Sierra LD and Chevrolet Silverado LD finished one and two in the Large Light Duty Pickup segment. The Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD took first and second in the Large Heavy Duty Pickup segment. In the large SUV segment the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and the GMC Yukon all finished in the top three spots.

If the Avista becomes a production car, it will go head to head with the new Lexus luxury performance coupe. We'd like to know which would be your choice and why.

John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 1/20/2016 The recently revealed 2017 GMC Acadia gets smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient for 2017. With such close model alignment between GMC, Buick, and Chevy one would assume that the 2017 models of the Traverse and Enclave would follow suit. However, Automotive News (AN), a publication we hold in very high regard, is reporting that it thinks otherwise. This is based partly on a short comment by GM's Mark Reuss (who our own Zane Merva interviewed recently and who was kind enough to spend some time with this writer chatting off the record). In the context of whether the Chevy and Buick large crossovers would follow this smaller design of the GMC, Reuss is quoted as saying “The brand separation in size and mission and the positioning of these vehicles has never been more differentiated.” This makes Automotive News think GM will not keep the three amigos aligned. AN further speculates that GM will create a new crossover to slot in between the Equinox/Enclave. The problem with that logic is that Buick has just launched the new Envision, which is smaller than the Equinox by a little bit.
Our take on the crossovers from GM is that they will be changing and they will be more aligned with the competition's model sizes. It is too early to tell how it will all shake out.
