Thanks madweazl. I'm sure it came to be through someone with the dealer. It just puzzled me that three employees, who I thought should know, knew nothing about Carfax. It will be just as easy to Unsubscribe, as I get the same notices through Onstar, anyway.
-
I keep getting emails from Carfax, both after a dealer service as well as notices of impending service requirements. The after-service ones list the type of service as well as the mileage. The notices of service due continue to suggest a service which is for a diesel (my truck is gas). I presume I can unsubscribe, but before that I am trying to determine how Carfax became involved and how they know evolving details (like mileage) of my vehicle. I have spoken to two service reps and the service manager at the dealers and they all advise they do not associate with Carfax nor do they know how Carfax is getting the information. I received/reviewed no information about Carfax when I purchased the truck and have not signed or agreed to any Carfax service. I have tried contacting them with no luck. Anyone else get Carfax emails and/or does anyone know how they obtain my truck service information?

2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD 6.6L Gas/6 Speed - Trans Temps?
marpel replied to SoCal Angler's topic in 6.6L Gas V8 (L8T)
As I read this thread, we just finished a day of towing up and down hills for about 300 miles, with ambient temps up to 93, and tranny down-shifting often to 4th. Tranny never went above 183. ‘22 Sierra 2500HD. -
Posted about this previously, so the short version. After paying for the undercoat “special” from the dealer, I did some research and found issues with the product. Went back to the dealer to cancel the product and got into a long discussion during which the dealer did not want to cancel, after which the rep finally agreed to contact the GM rep, who replied that GM does not recommend any after factory coating even that applied by the dealer and advise it likely will make rusting worse. Upon receipt of this email, the dealer cancelled the order.

Nav sd card not recognized
marpel replied to Yan Cormier's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
I have a '22 Sierra, ordered without OEM Navigation. Purchased the appropriate package from obdgenie. Requires an IOS system and an SD card slot, although if you do not have the SD card slot, they offer an additional piece of equipment that takes care of that. You get the SD card and a programmer which you temporarily hook Ito the old port during set-up. Has worked flawlessly, but you do miss the speed limit indicator unless you also have Onstar. The only mystery, to me at least, is the version I received indicated a different model vehicle (Denali, if I recall correctly). -
Figure I should give a concluding update. Took the truck in yesterday for the wheel recall/replacement. Procedure took about two hours and the replacement wheel is an exact match (leather wrapped, unlike the outcome for Blue20Sailor - wonder if this is a Canada/U.S. thing?) to the old one, which they chucked in the garbage (as per the manufacturers instructions - what a waste).
-
Finally got in to my appointment for the heated steering wheel change out. When I arrived, I asked the service rep about the new wheel and whether it was an exact match (with added component, of course) and that I wished to see the replacement before installation to ensure it was not as described by Blue20Sailor. Service rep went off to get the wheel for my inspection, and returned about 15 minutes later, empty-handed. Said it was good that I asked to see the wheel before I left the vehicle because the new wheels are on back order and have been so for at least one month, with eta unknown (so when were you going to tell me this??). Told me I would be contacted when/if it arrives. I also asked him what GM does with the old wheels and he confirmed that they get chucked in the garbage.

Stick-on Blind Spot Mirrors
marpel replied to MrLeadFoot's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
MrLeadFoot, As mentioned before, I ordered the regular mirrors rather than the trailer mirrors. I was assured by the GM site as well as the dealer sales person that the regular mirrors had a convex mirror on the passenger side (and flat glass on the driver's side) when I placed the order, with replacement mirrors. After many months, the truck arrived and I discovered the passenger side mirror was flat glass. When I questioned this, both the sales guy and the manager basically said "Oh, well, GM has the right to change out parts as they see fit." And I was given the choice to accept or refuse. This was one of three screw-ups (long story) I had to accept as I needed the truck and could not wait the the many months for a new order to be delivered. -
Stick-on Blind Spot Mirrors
marpel replied to MrLeadFoot's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
MrLeadFoot, Prior to affixing the BSMs I was concerned about them blocking the main mirrors, especially where the seller recommended they be placed. And so I payed particular attention to that aspect when I drove the truck after installation. However, I found no issue with blockage as the BSMs were in the lower outside corner and on the main mirror, that portion would only show a location that is farthest from the truck and that is handled by the BSMs anyway. I should add, as I have mentioned before, the passenger side main mirror (flat glass) was literally useless for blind spot viewing, even when I turned that mirror completely outward (and then the area close to the side of the truck was invisible), it still was incredibly inadequate, to the point of being dangerous, so loss of that bottom corner was inconsequential. I will admit that BSM took a couple days of getting used to, but I now have confidence that I can see any vehicle anywhere on that side. YMMV, however, as I don't want to give you the impression that they work for everyone, but I will say without reservation that they are certainly at least as good (better in my opinion) as the BSMs from the local auto supply store. -
Thanks Blue20Sailor, for the heads-up. My appointment was for 9 am this morning, but on Saturday my 10 yr old grand-daughter showed up from Colorado (to B.C.) as a surprise birthday gift. Needless to say, I cancelled and re-scheduled my appointment as a result. Now that I know, I will be asking to see the replacement wheel when I attend the next appointment. If it does not match my old one exactly (except with the heated element, of course), I will decline. Marv

Stick-on Blind Spot Mirrors
marpel replied to MrLeadFoot's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I may have done the attachments wrong as it seems they are downloads that have to be accessed and opened. For some reason, I seem to recall the first time that the image(s) were visible in the dialogue box...unless I am thinking of another site. Anyway, hopefully they can be viewed. -

Photos attached (hopefully, it's been awhile since I tried this). I added a closer view from the side so you can see the trim and thickness of the product. 6EC5B350-7480-4F3D-9FCF-2578CC1BE1B9_1_201_a.heic 32DA5E1F-BE2B-4753-9B8D-89A25887FCC3_1_201_a.heic -
Stick-on Blind Spot Mirrors
marpel replied to MrLeadFoot's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
My vehicle is a '22 Sierra 2500HD SLE. It was configured to have the trailer mirrors, but because I had them on my previous truck and did not like them because they were too darn wide (daily driver), I changed the order to have the regular mirrors. Unfortunately, although the site, order form and sales person promised convex passenger side mirror, it was delivered with flat glass (long story...). And the mirrors do not turn down when in reverse. The BSMs are in the lower outside corner of each mirror, and I have the regular mirrors set out a bit, so the inside edge of the BSMs are right at the point just in front of the rear wheels. Because the BSMs are so convex, they can easily show the rear tires when the full mirrors are set up "normally". Because I set my regular mirrors farther out, especially on the passenger side, I can still see the rear tires. There is no trim on the edge. The glass material is about an 1/8 of an inch, if not a bit more, thick and all that is visible is the clear glass along the edge, with the background base material (silver, if I recall, I am not near the truck right now to confirm) a bit visible. As a result of no edge plastic (usually black) like other BSMs, the BSM can be placed closer to the inside edge of the regular mirror. -
Stick-on Blind Spot Mirrors

Not trying to push these particular mirrors on you, however, just to clear a few points - The way I have my mirrors now set, I can see my rear tires (on both sides) in the BSMs at all times. I do not have auto tilting mirrors when the truck is in reverse, I only mentioned the reverse scenario to describe the view better. And when I first made email enquires with the BSM company, they started research and design, and subsequently designed the mirrors I eventually received, specifically for the lower outside corners of both sides, so they fit pretty well in those locations (they are neither square nor rectangular). However, if you are hesitant about these mirrors, you should get a pair of the ubiquitous round ones. -
Stick-on Blind Spot Mirrors
marpel replied to MrLeadFoot's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
When I set up my mirrors, I compared the views of the main inside rearview mirror, and each outside mirror. I set things up so a vehicle approaching, and passing, from the rear was visible in at least one of the three main or two BSMs at all times until it was adjacent enough to see with the naked eye. While doing so, I realized that I had always had the side mirrors higher than they needed to be as the view back down the street from these mirrors was also be covered by the main inside mirror. So I lowered the views of both side mirrors. By doing that, I could then see both rear tires with the BSMs and when backing could put the tires within a couple inches of a curb or object without hitting it. The passenger side was more difficult to get used to in this respect, because the tires and objects were so small in the BSM, but became easier with more use. -
Stick-on Blind Spot Mirrors
marpel replied to MrLeadFoot's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Ya, much like you, I was hesitant to install the driver's side as the view, absent the BSM, was not as bad as the passenger side. Without the BSM on the passenger side however, I, in no way, could see to change lanes without some serious body/neck/head contortions and really taking my eyes off the road (I do not have the indicator light). After some time with the passenger side installed, I got used to and now trust the view. I installed the drivers side initially more to have both sides match and I had ordered both anyway. I am now glad I did install it because it gives me that little bit extra coverage/confidence. -

GN2018 and Grover67, Have you received/installed these mirrors yet? Marv -
'22 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLE. As per a notice in the mail that the heated steering wheel components are now available for installation, called the dealer service department today and set an appointment. When asked, initially the rep advised it was a 10 minute job as it was a simple component swap-out, then after he did some checking to confirm, he advised they would actually need the truck all morning as the entire steering wheel has to be replaced and the old one sent back to the factory. Seems a bit weird to me, and I wonder if someone down the road will be getting a used steering wheel in their brand new truck, or do they just chuck the old one in the garbage? Anyone had this done yet and can confirm if they received a completely new wheel?

I found the TSB, and as mentioned by 64BAwagon, the problem is related to the expansion of a roof component due to hot weather. It details a fix that, after taking apart the roof brake light cover, is as simple as inserting a piece of foam. Not sure how that reduces or eliminates heat caused expansion. Probably will just live with it. Marv

64BAwagon, Thanks for the reply. Did you fix the problem on your '21 before you got rid of it, or is it even fixable? Suppose I should hunt down that TSB notice.

'22 Sierra 2500HD SLE Have gone through a roof whistling noise, which I previously posted about, that have been unable to resolve (likely wind and roof lights/antenna). Now, over the last few weeks, I am hearing a noise coming from the roof area. Initially, I noticed it when the vehicle comes to a stop and my very first thought was a bird pooped on the roof. It sounds exactly like that, and is near the back portion of the roof, above the rear seats. The noise is fairly muted, but noticeable. It occurs intermittently, will not occur for a few days, then will happen a single time during a drive, and others will happen two or three times during the same length of drive. As of late, I also notice it occurs while the vehicle is moving, but at slower speeds (like under 50kmh), but it may be that it occurs at higher speeds and I just can't hear it due to road/wind/traffic noise. Every time it happens, it is a single "plop". And it is not like something between the ceiling and roof is loose and moves forward from momentum when the vehicle slows or stops as it occurs when travelling at a steady speed and I don't hear any rolling/rattling around. I have repeatedly checked the roof and absolutely no signs of bird business. Recently, I have been thinking it may be weather (heat) related, like some metal or plastic heating up, expanding and making a popping noise, but have been unable to establish a weather related pattern. And not even sure how I would go about confirming that anyway. And I am just grasping at straws here. Anybody have any suggestions or ideas? Marv

Another JR, Okay, understood, thanks.

We drive to/from Denver, Co and Vancouver, BC 2 to 3 times a year (1400 miles one way), both with and without pulling a trailer (have done so for 10 years since the birth of our grand-daughter). We have done this so many times, we now usually hit the same hotels or RV parks in the same locations. We usually take three days, and we started the habit a long while back of putting in the most miles on the first day, less the second and the third we travelled the fewest miles. The first day is the longest, while the last day is pretty easy. It also allows us to arrive, both ways, to our destination fairly early in the afternoon. However, when I do this drive alone and without a trailer, I have done it in two days as I actually enjoy long drives. Marv

Another JR, Thanks for the info. However, what does "connects it to a computer" mean? Are we talking, actually taking the phone (like stealing it) and hardwire connecting it to a computer, or some sort of remote method? If I have a choice between someone potentially accessing data, or remembering to enter my passcode, I would prefer the latter, even though it is a bit of a pain. Marv

Thanks nocturnalmotors for the reply, and link. I will take a look at this, but first will see if I can figure out how to use the cable without need for a password. Marv
