That's great news...I'll be waiting to see if that fixes your issue. If so, I'll ask my dealer to do the same. Please keep us posted. -

What model Michelin did they put on? Are these dealer GM tires or regular ones. I've seen other trucks with Good Year SR-A tires that dont look anything like my tires...I have no proof but I feel like the dealerships can get their hands on certain tires that are in no way the same quality as what teh tire dealers sell. No proof of course, just me experience with dealer issues Good year and Bridgestone tires. -

I admit it could be anything...but my gut says the trans isn't the source. Just my gut...but it could be. I drop mine in neutral and the wobble stays. Plus, these trucks have a different trans than the one mentioned in the TSB with the leaky seal. However, anything is possible. Mine is still temp specific...and seems better now that the drivesharft was balanced on the truck. It's nowhere near good...but it changed for the better. It seems there's a whole bunch of factors contributing to the issue...I even noticed that when a harley drives by me, I feel it strongly in the gas pedal and floor...the truck's own engone could be causing some of the high speed vibration. I am tired of trying to diagnose my brand new truck every time I get in it and drive somewhere. I'm sure the problem didn't start with mine until I had about 2000 miles on it...if it was like this when I test drove it I would have walked away for sure. I hate to say it but, this is a year old case and GM hasn't even acknowledged the problem, so there's no fix coming from them. The best we can all hope for is that some watch dog group or lawyers get involved and sue the already severely crippled GM. But really, thats not going to make anything happen for all of us directly. I would really like to know if any of the guys who put aftermarket exhaust on their truck have this vib issue. It seems, in mine at least that with constant speed the vib is at it's worse...varying speed and throttle make it a lot better, and long drives with cruise on it's the worst. Harmonics at play here? 3 cats, a resonator, and a muffer could be causing some of this where shitty tires and road vibs telegraphing through electric power steering and crap shocks make up the rest? Who knows....in anoter year it could end up being a defective fuel pump causing it all. -

Here's something to think about....today I was on the highway with the windows down and the vibration didn't seem as bad as usual. Wife and I were both sort of surprised. I know balancing tires made mine better, and balancing the drive shaft improved things too but...I wonder how much cab resonance, or exhaust resonance has to do with this vibration issue every one is feeling? I know it wouldn't be the total issue but could it be a larger part? Does anyone one here with vibration issues have aftermarket exhaust on their truck? I wonder if any of the guys on the other forum area that have swapped exhaust systems have any high speed vibration / shimmy issues? Just thinking here. -

Mine is a Z-71 as well. Very stiff and feels everything on the road, but I dont mind that. I dont mind the rough feel, vibrating in V4 mode either, it's the jiggle on the highway that has to go. This is my 3rd Z71 and I've had too many vehicles to remember and none have driven as poorly as this one at highway speeds. It feels like the tires are all unbalanced but they keep on balancing them to make it ride better for a few days. -
Shake or Vibration Issues
MJFlores replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
My update, I had my truck in for the 3rd time for vibration issues. They kept it for 3 days and tried everything. The first time I went in, they road force balanced the tires and things got better but not perfect, the second time in they swapped 2 tires and things got much better but not perfect, this third time they swapped tires around on the rims, balanced the drive shaft, and things were almost perfect when I left there...but now it sucks again. Why are these tires out of balance everytime I take it in? When I picked it up it was cool...and temperature plays a huge role in my problem...the hotter, the more "jiggle" in the ride. Something to be aware of...the mechanic and service manager have been very attentive and I feel like they're really trying which is great to see but...is this truck ever going to ride right? Per GM, they asked that they test drive a truck off the lot and if it rode better than mine, they were to swap tires, rims, drive shaft, and rear end out and put them all on my truck to see if it corrected the issue. The mechanic told me they test drove a few, with a vibration tool in the truck and couldn't find one that drove as good as mine...and they have varying tire makes, some with aluminum drive shafts (mine is steel). So, I'm debating what to do here...do I bring it back yet again and see...I cant keep bringing this truck in and sooner or later they're going to say..sorry it's a truck. And they'd be right in saying they all drive like shit because all the ones they have do. I'm close to buying tires and seeing if it fixes things but I dont want to go through more headaches if it doesn't. I've already looked at Kelly Bluebook as a trade in value and according to that I wouldn't be upside down so I may stop at a place (Ford) and see what they'd actually give me...if it's a good deal I'll probably do it, if not I'll buy tires and keep chasing it. Time and frustration are money to me so chasing this forever is a waste and hating a brand new truck is not an option to me. I drive 20,000 miles a year and need to like what I've driving and I'm starting to doubt that I'll ever truly like this truck now. Admitedly, the truck is gorgeous looking...and gets great gas mileage but thats just not enough in my book. The ride quality sucks and should be an embarassment to GM. The elctronics are all flakey, I've had one "no-start" due to "theft deterent system", I've had TPS reset and blast the horn on me for no reason, and I cant even use all wheel drive mode in rain and light snow because of a groan sound from the from diff...per the dealer, dont use it unless it's snowing and really bad out. Really? There's a zillion cars on the road that drive around in AWD all year long and you're telling my in 2014 a Silverado can't do that when my 2010 Silverado did just fine?? Back to the vibrations issue...at this point it feels like tire jiggle and my gut says an alignment and decent tires would fix this but if GM is willing to swap my tires, rims, drive shaft, and entire rear end with parts from another truck, that tell me they have no idea whats causing this or how to truly fix it. This thread was made last August...almost a year ago, and GM doesn't have an answer after almost a year??? They built these damn truck and they should have had an answer after a month or better yet, not had the problem at all. They're either complete morons, or they just dont care about correcting this and having happy GM owners. That part is crystal clear to me. As with everything, I did learn somethng here. Never have brand loyalty...I wanted a new truck, so I blindly bought what GM had out of faith and past experience. Never do this. For now on, no brand loyalty and never buy a first year vehicle and when buying time is coming watch internet forums and see what people are saying for at least 6 months. Well, I have some thinking to do and decide which way I'm going to go with this. -
I had a 2010 Silverado Z-71 4X4, I drove it for 70,000 miles and the only time it wasn't in in 4-Auto was when it was on 4 HI. I always left it in 4 auto and you'd never know it until it was needed. With my 2014, I get a very low moan sound when in 4 Auto if I give it even moderate gas. I leave it in 2 wheel and use 4 HI when it's snowy or when I'm off road which isn't often. The 2014 doesn't work anywhere near what my 2010 did as far as 4 wheel auto. I did take it in and dicuss it with the dealer, and they said it was normal and to only use it when it's really bad out. Personally I think they took a step backwards with this but what are you gonna do.

Do all the 22 inch wheels use some sort of an adapter? Mine are 18" rims, I've never taken them off as of yet. What does the adapter do? -

Correct, but on a rear wheel vehicle, a few slips on the rim and the rear tire or tires are no longer balanced. Worth considering and checking. -

MJFlores replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
I believe it to be mostly tires as well. Mine is going in today to be checked out. The first time mine went in it greatly improved with just a balance on all 4. The second time they replaced 2 tires and it was great for a while but it's back. If they dont find anything big, I plan n marking the tires...especially the rear with a grease pencil and see if they're indexing n the rim. That would explain the "almost fixed, but issue comes back" condition. All of the 18" rims could be slightly undersized..who knows? Through my own trouble shooting, I've eliminated the AFM, the exhaust valve, and the transmission from the equation. The drive shaft is marked with a welded weight for balance so I'm doubtful thats it. A rear end issue I would think you'd feel with all speeds and wouldn;t go away and come back with temperature, etc. Rims and ties could be in my future...who knows. They'll figure it out. -

Mine isn't that bad...but bad enought to be annoying. I've tried stepping on it a bit and it does it in V8 mode too....even after it's downshifted to another gear. I think I even tried shifting into Neutral and coasting over 70 and it did it. It seems not to be AFM related, or transmission related, at least with my truck. Completly dependent on rolling speed...over 70 and for a few miles before it starts happening. The warmer out, the worse it is...the higher the tire presure, the worse it is. Yesterday we took a family day and drove backroads up to 5o-55 to the beach, shopping, and out to eat. It was a nice day and the truck drove beautifully. We drove something like 92 miles, and averaged 21.4 MPG! If this truck wasn't so damn nice looking, and got such great fuel economy it'd be in big trouble LOL! I was set to buy tires and an alignment...but now I'm taking it in Tuesday and letting them keep it a while and see what they find. You have to try that first and who knows...they may fix it. This CANT be a mystery forever. I dont think there's ever been a vehicle made that an issue with it remains a mystery to this day. They'll figure it out. The service manager I spoke with did say they've seen alot of them coming in for vibration, and it seems like both GY and Michelin tires are on trucks that vibrate. He did say recently, they had to shim a rear end on one truck, and an engine mount in another to fix high speed vibration. He seems like a real nice guy, who wants to get to the bottom of your problem so that's promising. We'll see what they discover this week. -

Is your vibration only in your steering wheel? Mine is in the seat and floor...and starting to be in the gas pedal. Right when they swapped 2 tires I could no longer feel any vibe in the pedal...and just barely some in the seat but it's all coming back now. Tonight I ever noticed, the older GYs on the truck have a "ring" all the way around the sidewall now as if I rubber a curb or something, but I'm positive I've never hit or rubbed anything. Something just really seems wrong with these GYs. After looking at them again tonight...starting to wonder if they're even safe to drive on. -

I had Nitto Crossteks on my 2010 Silverado, for 3 out of the 4 years I owned it. I'm in NH so we get snow, and those Nittos were awesome in snow. I really was impressed with them. -

I have th 18", 265/65/18 Good Year SR-A tires. I brought it in for vibration at 70+. The dealer swapped out two of my tires around 1500 miles ago. It was almost fixed after they swapped the two, but it's slowly coming back. I believe mine to be a tire issue. When it first started coming back I noticed that on the 2 older tires...if you ran your hand along the sidewall you'd feel bumps and ripples...but barely on the 2 new tires...well the two newer ones are now like that. I'm right on the line of getting an alignment and 4 Nitto Crossteks put on and see what we have afterwards. I might as well just do it because it could very well fix the whole problem for me. If it doesn't I'm still keeping the truck a while so might as wlel have decent tires on it. I know some people are trading out but I'm not going to do that. You take too much of a loss doing that this early in the purchase, and honestly...I'm getting 19.5 to 20 mpg lately so it's saving me money. Other brand trucks arent going to get the gas mileage these new GM's are getting so i think it's crazy to entertain losing on the trade value vs what's owed, plus a hit to the wallet every time you fill up. I had 5 grand in equity to my trade so there's no way I'm pissing that away. I may have talked myself into new tires just now LOL! They can only help...just sucks to dump the money towards them so early in the game. -
I bolted mine open last night...got sick of the whistle sound it gave when using moderate pedal around 10 to 40 miles per hour. The whistle was very loud and very annoying with the passenger side window opened. Other than the annoying turbo sounding whistle being gone, and a louder startup exhaust sound I dont notice anything different...V4 mode still the same, V4 "rough feeling" still the same, gas mileage the same on my short 15 mile test drive last night. I plan on leaving it open for the life of the truck. It was a dumb idea on GM's part if you ask me.

Thats awesoem that your vibration was fixed. I'm convinced my 73 mph plus vibration has got to be tires. It warmed up here yesterday and it was noticably worse...this am was cool and it was almost not an issue. My GY tired have waves in the sidewall I can feel when running my hand across. I think alot more of us would be happier with better tires..but totally understand not wanting to drop money on something that may not fix the issue. I wonder how large a part the rims played on yours? What tires did you end up getting? -
I guess if you twist ot counter clockwise, a bolt hole lines up on the bottom so you can bolt it open. I may do that soon as mine is whistling like a turbo and is very annoying. I hear it with the windows down when driving back roads...especially going up hills.

Just checked the inside of my door and it says "Fort Wayne Assembled"...so 'm guessing my truck was made in Fort Wayne..Iowa? Like I said, I have the Fort Wayne sticker, and underneath there's a Canda sticker so my tuck is either made here or there. From what I can determine, there are welded on weights so it seems things were balanced and assembled correctly. I'm getting a lot closer to biting the bullet and buying new tires. My gut thinks that's the sorce of a lot of people's problems. I agree...my vibration is nothing like that video that was posted...that's pretty rough! -

I was under my truck this am looking at the flapper exhaust valve and noticed my drive shaft sitting there. It appears marked, and there's what looks like a spot welded on weight on it, and well as the yoke or what ever it is that the shaft slides into before going into the rear end. It appears there was some effort there to balance the shaft and the yoke. I also can now see the ripples in the sidewalls of the tires and you can really feel them when you run your had on them. I think these GY tires are junk and are likely the cause of all my vibration issues. Here's a pic of the shaft and yoke. I also see a "made in Canada" stamp under there...how can we tell where these trucks were made? Can you tel by the VIN? Also, cant really tell but my drive shaft appears to be steel and not aluminum but I'm not really sure on that. My truck was made in Dec 13. -

I owned a 2007 Ram with 20" rims...and that experience turned me away from Dodge forever. It rode terribly and was told the 20" rims just did that. I lost count of how many parts in the front end, steering, and suspension I had to replace. One day after work I started it, put it in drive and it wouldn't move... trans went. All this at around 50 thousand miles. It was gone a week later. I'd rather have a vibrating Chevy than a Dodge any day...they're all abotu cheap parts. Next purchase will likely be a Ford but I'll see what GM is like too at that point. Never buying a first year model again thats for sure...of any brand. -

They're partially correct, but thats not an acceptable answer to your inquiry. I have noticed that, when driving on back roads between 40 and 50 mph...that I can feel it when it's in V4 mode because of a slight vibration feel..almost a rough feel to the engine and truck. Between the V4 mode, and the truck wanting to cruise along at the lowest RPM possible...it's a rough, vibratory feeling. I have played with the tow mode, and sometime use it when tooling along on back roads. It only makes the truck cruise along at 1600 RPM or so...just enough to smoothen things out. When it's in V4 mode with only 1100 rpm on the tach, it's going to be impossible to get a smooth ride. Shouldn't be like this but thats how they designed it. I wouldnt worry about wrecking the trans, and gas mileage from what I've experienced when in tow mode is actually very good...19 plus. This is the sort of rough ride that personally I can write off because I know exactly whats causing it, and how to make it go away with the press of a button or more pressure with my right foot. Interesting that your wheels smoothened out your ride. Would you attribute it to the rims themselves or the tires on them? -

A good update here...I drove home from work, 48 degrees...and my truck drove really nice. Not perfect, but acceptable. If it drove like this all the time I'd be happy. Dreading the next warm up because my shake will come back. I'm going to call the dealer and explain things, and see if they'll pull these GY off and put on something else. If they wont, I'll be headed to NTB for 2 pairs of Nitto Crossteks. They were great on my 2010...they just may fix my 2014! Next, to bolt open the flapper valve and clear up the annoying whistle sound it makes. I promise everyone on here..someday we'll look back and just laugh when thinking what we were experiencing with "those old 2014's" haha! Annoying as all hell but they're just trucks. -

Which tires did you swap to? Did you swap to new GY or a different brand..just curious. The reason I think my problem is tires is..they replaced one front and one rear with new GY tires, and my problem all but disappeared...but seems to slowly coming back. I will say that temo plays a huge role in my 70 plus vibration. This am was only 48 degrees, and I could drive along at 72 73 and have a very nice ride. The problem is, when it warms up my shake comes back so I'm thinking tires for my own issue. I think a drive train issue would be there regardless of external temp. I'm very close to biting the bullet and putting 4 new Nittos on there! I may see if the service manager will help me out and take back my GYs or offer to install another make of tire first. -

I have read about a few people who swapped tires and it corrected their issues....but there seems to be a few here that say they did try different tires with no change at all so, it could be a crap shoot?
