Shake or Vibration Issues
MJFlores replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
On my 2010 Silverado I put on Nitto Crossteks and am very close to putting them on my 2014 Silverado. I was very impressed with them. Not bad price-wise either. If I k new for sure it would sollve the vibration I have, which I believe they will...I'd do it tomorrow. I just dont want to fele the rage if they dont solve it. -
Shake or Vibration Issues

Here's my quick story...and mounting evidence that my problem might be largely tire related. I had the 70 plus wobble / vibration issue and took the truck to the dealership. Two tires road forced high, and they replaced two. The ride after was a huge improvement, but there was still a bit of the original issue remaining. My problem has started to come back so today we took a ride, and for the heck of it I ran my hand across the sidewall of the two original good years...I could feel a wavy patern in the sidewall almost like belts seperating....and the two new GY has the same but faintly. I'm betting they'll get worse and and my ride will once again suffer so I'll call the dealer and will ask them to take all 4 GYs back and swap with good tires of a different brand. I really believe my issue is mostly a tire problem. While in, I have the whistle at slow speed I'll have them look at...and a rub / click sound I have when turning slow in a parking lot. We'll see...I have a warranty and will put it to use. Luckily...my dealer seems to be very responsive and seems to guenuinly care about customer problems so I dont anticipate any issues with getting this fixed. -

Were you getting any vibration in the seat, over 70 mph? I've often wondered how much the exhaust had a role in that. -

Because of the poor ride quality, I just cant recommend GM any longer. I'd look at other make of trucks if I were you. -

I used to notice a big difference comparing my ride into work vs ride home. They did replace two of my GYs and things were MUCH better, but not perfect...although I still had the original GY tires on there. Im very close to just buying 4 new Nittos and getting an alignment done. The only thing stopping my is , what if I dont see and feel a difference? My feelings were always that if temp had a effect...it had to be tires. This was informally proven on mine by swapping 2 tires. -

MY update....I was having vibration at 70 plus that seemed to get worse with temperature. The dealer replaced two Good year tires I had that Road Forced highly. After the tire swap, there'a a world of difference but at this point I dont think the whole problem is solved. It's livable now so my issue seems to have been largely tire related. I cant help but wonder if I swapped the other original Good Year tires maybe the truck would ride perfect. Has anyone thought that maybe, these trucks just drive poorly? I think I'm being very sensitive to every little wobble now due to this thread, but maybe these trucks just stink. I mean, between the trans always trying to shift to a gear for the lowest possble rpm, the V4, the frame, the aluminum shaft and steering parts, and the crappy tires...maybe this is as good as it gets? I dont know...if I never saw this thread ...with the way my truck drives now I'd probably chalk it up to "it rides like a truck" and not worry. It seems like, from what I read here so far that....nobody has gone from troubled to fixed by having parts swapped out. After a year, if there was a specific problem I would think Chevy would know exactly what to swap to correct the issue...ya know? I think these trucks just drive poorly to the sensitive driver, and fine to the ones who arent as sensitive. Maybe? -

I would think that if adjusting tire pressure changed things, then tires are where the problem is. Temp and tire pressure changes my issue, and so did a balance. They're changing two tires out that road forced highly..so we'll see. This thread can definately get your mind going...so dont rea too much into things if you can avoid it. I will say that, these trucks are extremely rigid and telegraph every bump and road crack straight to the driver...so take that into consideration. The tech that I took on a drive felt my issue, and admitted that lately GM is asking drivers to just keep on driving to 10000 miles as they're hoping things soften up. He told me that's their offical word for several ride related issues. They pushed to get me two new tires....I'm really hoping they solve my problem. -

I'm really wondering if there are several different problems hidden within this one large thread. Can someone read my issue and comment if it seems like what they're seeing? My truck drives veryt nicely around town, even up to 55mph. At 70mph plus I get a shake or wobble that I feel in the seat and pedal, and a little in the steering wheel that I figured was tire related. I can say it definaltey gets worse the warmer out it is, and the longer you drive the truck. With that said..how can it not be tires? I suspect my problem was alsways there but since I bought it in Feb, I just didnlt feel it until it began to warm up. I brought mine in on Friday and was treated verty well by the mechanic and service manager and they both really want to solve the issue. So far they admit to feeling what I'm feeling on the highway. A road foce balance revealed tires are in spec, but two had a very high rating of 22 or something so they're replacing those two for more in spect tires. They said they'll call Mon or Tues when the tires get in and I'll go have them swapped out and see where we're at. They did tell me that they've had a bunch of trucks come back and they've been solved with tires...although one required an engine mount shim to correct. I feel they really want to helo me out, and are trying so I feel very good about that. I know how frustrating things are...I've also been frustrated, but I honestly feel that GM is going to solve this...I'm hoping anyway. This cant be impossible and I noticed the 15's are on the lot now. try to be positive everyone, dont let this annoyance eat into you. I was doing that but I've decided I just have to stop and let this thing get figured out. -

This flapper seems hard to believe, but it's worth a shot. My vibration at HW speeds gets worse as the truck goes a while and warms up all the way thats for sure. I also feel the vibration in the floor and gas petal the most. Ya know...certainly could be that damn thing. Mine is going in tomorrow am, so I'll mention it as something I read. For what it's worth...I really like this new truck...and I mean everything about it. However, this whole vibration this is a HUGE deal braker for me. I will be thrilled if it's that stupid flap...with how easy it is to lock open with wire or a hose clamp. I'm anxios to hear from people who have pulled their exhaust and swapped to aftermarket...can anyone confirm this isn't an issue on thsoe trucks? -

Are you pursuing the issue? You described exactly what I'm seeing. It's getting progressively worse, and I now feel it strongly in the gas pedal, floor, seat, and center console. I never felt it in the gas pedal until today and it was so bad it made my pant leg shake. Something is evry wrong with these trucks. Mine is going in on Friday am...if they try to feed me that line of bull (that it's normal) I'll be reporting that to GM. I'm going to remain optomistic that they'll do the right thing for their customer so lets see what happens. We shouldn't have to be going through this with new trucks. -

MJFlores replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
My thought right now is, if I dont trade and decide to put up with the vibration for a few years until I have better trade equity....I would think if anything breaks in the powertrain because of this excessive vibration we'd all be covered at least under the 3 / 36 warranty...and most likely out to the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. In one way or another, it's GM's baby to deal with and pay for right? They'll pay in one way or another for turning out a crap product. Hell, they're already paying in the form of vastly reduced sales, and turning away former loyal customers. The GM lots are full of 2014 trucks...and I still rarely pass one on the road. I pass a few Ford dealers on the way to work, and there are presumably traded in 2014 Silverados sitting out from for sale...which should be an embarrassment to GM. If GM were smart they'd be SCRAMBLING to correct this issue and put it behind them...and then launch a PR campaign to retain customers who have been rubber the wrong way. I dont see any of that happening however. -

I have to tell you, I'm reaching the boiling point here. I mean, how long has it been and there's no fix yet? Come on GM. It's to the point where I dont even want to drive my brand new truck. You would think this would have gone a few weeks at most and then GM would have a posted bulletin with a known fix to solve their customers problems. I'm about ready to trade out to a Ford at a loss, and if I do I'm never coming back to GM for the rest of my life. I've owned Chevy since highschool but clearly brand loyalty gets you nowhere. I'm very, very disappointed with GM right now. -

I'm definately noticing much smoother ride at highway speeds in this coolder weather we've had the past few days. Last week temps were in the 70's, so my tires were showing around 38lbs after HW driving the vibration was the worst it had been. I wonder if I dont have a steel belt issue in one or both rear tires. Here I am with 4300 miles on a new truck and I'm thinking of buying 4 brand new tires from another place. Not cool. -

For what it's worth, here's something I tried today. And again, I have my vibration starting at 71mph on up so... In my mind, the rear end, drive shaft, and transmission dont really know what actual speed the truck is moving at...they only know RPM. I used tow mode on a smooth back road to similuate highway speed at RPM but at a much slower speed and I didnt experience the vibration. The truck has to be moving a certain speed, regardless of RPM. In my mind, this points to tires, rims, rotors, and hubs right? And of course, this slow speed test removed any mischief with air turbulence. -

It's sort of a sad comentary on humanity when we are forced to settle for crap. I mean, making a truck that doesn't vibrate and shimy on the highway is a major hurdle these days? And correcting one that does is an impossible feat? I mean...WOW. Has anyone just said "screw it" and went and bought new tires...good ones? Different than the dealer stocked ones? From a shop not affiliated with GM. How did that work out? I'm honestly thinking about taking mine off and just buying new Nittos but dont want to give them any ammo to point fingers at if it doesn't fix it and I have to go to the dealer for MANY visits. -

I believe mine, in most part is due to crappy tires. I mentined on here earlier that I was feeling like the problem changed with temperature. I can now say that as things warm up the problem definately gets worse. This am it was colder than usual, and I recently let air out of my tires so they never quite expanded all the way. On the ride to work, on highway my tires never made it past 34 lbs. and my vibration issue was much less than it had been when the tires were up around 37 to 38. For what it's worth anyways. I've never owned anything but Chevy, but I've decided I'll only keep this thing for 2 years tops and then will look at Ford and Chevy. If there's a single additional problem in those two years I'll completely rule out Chevy / GM as a possible choice. Sad to say, but that's GM's fault not mine. -

Just an update from this am. I just drove about 24 miles, mostly highway. I brought the truck up to 70 and set the crusie control the whole way and the truck drove very nice. Yeserday was not the case however. It was much warmer yesterday than this am, and I really never started being bothered by vibration until the warmer weather started hitting (I bought my truck at the begining of Feb). Could warmer temps have somehting to do with these vibration issues or no? -
Shake or Vibration Issues
MJFlores replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Question for those who have been chasing this issue on their trucks. How many have swapped tire brands?...and did it help? The reason I ask is, my 2010 Silverado had quite a shimmy for months when I bought it new. I brought it back orignally and they swapped a tire but the same junk stock tire. I put up with it for months and finally pulled the stock tires off and went with Nitto Crosstek's and the problem was all but gone. I dont think Chevy trucks ever ride like cars, at least in my experience but I wonder if Goodyear made a huge lot of crap tires to send to GM as part of a big "make them cheap" contract? Second, my vibration comes and goes in intensity...it seems when it's bad, I'm around 75 mph and the hood actually shakes as if wind turbulence is causing at least part of it. How much could wind be playing a part in this whole issue? I would think that an out of spec rear end would wear itself very quickly once vibrating, and you'd see the vibration issue get worse rapidly until the rear end failed. I'm just trying to look at this logically and try to understand what is going on, possible causes etc. It is clear, through what others have experienced, that swapping around those crap Goodyears and rebalancing IS NOT a fix and is largely a waste fo time. I'm very temped to drop $650 for 4 new Nittos becasue this fixed my old truck for the most part. I dont want to if it wont make any difference though. Also, for myself personally...I'm also trying to look at myself and decide is it as bad as I think it is? The truck is so quiet and comfortabe, the door has a nice solid "thunk" sound when closing, like a quality car. Then when you hit the highway you get the ride of a truck Anybody's input here is appreciated. If we decide to just live with this shimmy, will something eventually fail? -

Well, my 2014 Z71 double cab chevy is driving me crazy with the vibrations I'm getting on the highway. I havent read all of this thread, but wow it's not sounding good. The last thing I have the energy for is a long drawn out ordeal trying to fix the vibration I'm feeling. I hinestly dont look forward to driving my truck any more. I have about 3700 miles and I guess I'll have to take it in and start the process. I know the first visit or two will be a waste of my time because they'll be focussing on tires but...damn. Why this? Any advice for me as I start the journey? I'm going to insist that it doesn't feel like tires, and it feels like the rear end but beyond that I dont know what to do. I'm seriously thinking about just taking the loss and trading it for a Ford or something. I've owned nothing but Chevy my whole life but, this is not what I want to be doing. -

Is there a video anyone know of that shows what the vibration is that people are dealing with? Mine has a slight shimmy in the seat at between 75 and 85 mph but if I set the cruise control on at 70 to 72 mph I get a very nice ride. One thing I have noticed is that these trucks are air sensitive, meaning maybe a slight chande to the exterior could give you a better ride? I wonder if any of the guys that removed the from air dam have better highway ride quality? A bug guard could make a difference ...I've seen strange things happen with water on my hood at different speeds, just wondering if something happened in the ole wind tunel at GM. Has anyone who changed tires had this problem go away. By change I mean pulled the GY's off and went to a good tire. -

Thanks JYBone!...looking forward to seeing your GMC. -
For what it's worth, it is still winter. Is it really cold where you are? You'll always see dips with cold weather..but my new 5.3 really is impacted by cold. On cold days I get 16.5 to 18.5....the last warm up we had I got over 20 easily. That to me is a huge swing in MPG due to temp.

Ugggh...so I called a local exhaust custom shop...Lou's Custom Exhaust. We have a bunch of them around here and I've actually heard good things about. Anyways, I asked about brands ...they carry a bunch inlcuding Borla but no Corsa. He was trying to push his "Lou's version muffler and pipes". I asked if his system eliminated the exhaust flapper valve thing we all have, and he say WHAT? I said the Flapper valve, I said I have a 2014 Silverado. He says matter of factly that no, your truck has no flapper of any kind. I asked, have you done any systems on any 2014 Chevy's or GMC's and he says of course they have. I hung up on him. Geeze...it's ok not to know something, but not OK to try to correct someone who obviosly knows quite a lot more about a given topic than you do. So much for that...I'd never let them put their greasy fingers on my truck after that. I bet I end up doing my system myself in the driveway on jackstands now. Geesh! Funny part is, all he had to do was be nice and someone knowledgable and he would have got my business....easy as that.

Drone occurs when the engine drops down to 4 cyl from 8. I could be wrong but your impala doesn;t do that, does it? I've been in a truck with bad drone before...it's extremely annoying, and hurts your ears...you "feel" the vibrations in your ear canals, neck, etc. It's enough to make me sick...and I've read about others who have turned around, went back to the shop and had the whole system ripped out because of it. I can deal with obnoxiously loud exhaust...but drone, no way! Anyway, just my opinion on that.
