  1. ^I agree GM won't be addressing this from what I can tell. It's not a life safety issue, so they'll continue to do the warranty game of trial and error fixes and hope something they do fixes it or you give up and live with it as most will undoubtedly do. The rest will trade it away and a small percentage of people will go the lemon law route. I'm sure the 2015's will be vibration free and their goal at this point is unload as much 2014 stock as possible so they can release the 2015's for sale. It's hard to sell a 2014 (and 2015's for that matter) when acknowledging they vibrate. They'll most likely stay quiet and release the 2015's with a fix of some sort.
  2. I wouldn't think a pump would cause that violent of a vibration in a truck unless the drive line was engaged. Disengaged, it's just a pump sitting there pumping. I would think the engine would cause more vibration than a pump alone would. I dunno just tossing out some thoughts.......
  3. I'm starting to get on board with this transmission theory. The leaky seal/pressure idea makes complete sense because my steering wheel vibration doesn't seem to be consistent with temperature increases anymore as summer progresses. It still seems to come and go and is fluctuating independent of outside temperatures now. Although as I type this, I remember many of us talking about dropping the transmission into neutral and the vibration still exists. A vibration in neutral would eliminate the transmission right?
  4. There's a service bulletin out regarding the vibration when accelerating from a standing start. I saw it somewhere on this forum. Something to do with the transmission I can't remember but I believe it's fixable.
  5. I don't think all of these vibration issues are a characteristic of these trucks, but these trucks do ride rougher overall in my experience. I had an LT 4x4 loaner yesterday which was comparable to my 2007 Silverado and the truck yesterday was noticeably harsher riding, but it didn't vibrate. My current 2014 Z71 actually rides a little smoother than the 4x4 did yesterday.....go figure. But you can definitely tell the suspension is stiffer on these trucks. I'm not complaining though. It's a truck and I actually want it to be stronger and more capable so I don't mind the stiffer suspension. But I wouldn't let a rep tell you a vibration is a characteristic of these trucks. A rough ride might be, but a vibration is an entirely different animal. And like I and others have pointed out, why do some trucks vibrate and some don't? That right there is the key question everyone needs to keep in mind when dealing with these morons.
  6. Awesome I'm definitely going to try this. thank you!
  7. Yeah it can still drive straight and be out of alignment, just depends on what exactly out of alignment is. I would definitely check that. It's always a good idea to get an alignment after new tires in general so that you don't develop any weird wear patterns on your new tires.
  8. I have to ask.....did you get an alignment after putting new tires on the truck? The symptoms you describe sound like the truck is dragging from wheels being out of alignment.
  9. Well made an appointment at the dealer for next Tuesday to get an oil change/tire rotation before I go on a long trip next Thursday. I told him I'm still sensing a vibration in the steering wheel at higher speeds. This will be the second time it's gone in for that problem. The first time was back in early May and they road force balanced all my tires. That seemed to help for the ride home but the problem really didn't go away. It's not getting worse, but it is there and I notice it mostly at higher speeds and it was really apparent when I went on my first long trip with the truck a couple weeks ago to a destination about an hour away from where I live. There was no denying the vibration at that point. So we'll see what happens and I'll keep you guys posted. At the end of the day it's all under warranty so as long as it's not costing me any money, I'm going to take advantage of the warranty and stay persistent. I figure they either fix it or buy it back/lemon law it. Either way it's not something I should or will live with. I'm saving all of my receipts from the service department. Anything else I should be doing to document this process?
  10. Yep a friend of mine has a crew cab standard bed LTZ Z71 with 17,000 miles and his has a vibration from about 70 mph and up.
  11. Wow glad yours is fixed! Please keep us posted on how the truck performs over time. I sincerely hope your problem doesn't come back because it means there is hope for us with vibration issues to get it resolved.
  12. Yeah in hindsight I wish I had hung on to my 2007 and tried the Range V8 device to see if that fixed the oil consumption issue for me. It would be nice having that truck back which was paid off. So far with the issues I've had with my 2014 I don't' even like it or enjoy driving it. It's merely a means to get around for $500 a month. If the Range V8 didn't work on my 2007 and I knew what I was getting into, I definitely would have bought the Tacoma I was looking at. Toyota even gives you bilstein shocks and BF Goodrich tires with their off road package.
  13. I have not tried this but I will try when I find some free time on the weekend.
  14. I think I might get my wife to drive the truck slowly down the street while I walk outside it and observe the tires as they rotate just to see how they react when they flex and if there's anything odd.
  15. Yes I notice it in the seat and gas pedal but it bothers me the most in the steering wheel. And yes I noticed those same spots on my tires and wondered the same thing! I thought "did I hit a curb somewhere? I would remember doing that if I did I'm super careful to avoid it actually." Tonight I also decided to check the treads and the rubber seemed to just rub off when I ran my fingers over it and pushed a little. Like fine bits of rubber were on my fingers. The fact that you and I are noticing the exact same stuff really has me convinced it's my tires now.
  16. I'm kind of with you bro. I got almost $13k for my trade in and I have an extended warranty on the new truck. It would be a huge financial hit to trade it away. At the end of the day the truck is good overall except for what I'm hoping is just bad tires causing a steering wheel vibration and not something worse.
  17. I feel the road NOW! Seems to be the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tires. 18" in my case.
  18. So are these Nitto's Load E rated?
  19. Nice and this fixed the 70+ mph steering wheel vibration you were having? Any rubbing in the front when you turn the wheel?
  20. Nice yeah I think mine is tires too. I've noticed the same wavy feel to the sidewall. I've noticed also the rubber on these good years just feels very soft and weak......very cheap. You can just touch them and tell they're not of any substantial quality and every sensitive driver I know that has these tires is complaining of a high speed steering wheel vibration/shimmy. I'll probably tough them out until the winter and then spring for some Michelins. I do have to drive 7 hours in a couple weeks to South Carolina so I'm not looking forward to that sustained high speed drive...........
  21. What were your vibration symptoms? Also what dealer did you use? I'm in Virginia!
  22. Yeah AFM is 7 years old on GM trucks and I'm still walking on eggshells waiting for it to burn oil or throw a lifter or something.
  23. The early ecoboosts did have a lot of engine problems but I haven't heard much about the last couple of years having problems. They may have worked out all of the kinks now I dunno, but personally I would have gone with the V8. Why? Because it's available and it doesn't have AFM. I would get a GM truck without AFM if I could too. I just like standard V8's in trucks when they're available.
  24. Yeah I'm back and forth between trying to work with the dealer for new tires or just spending the money on something nice like Michelins that I think will fix the problem. It's just tough to swallow the idea of buying tires on a new vehicle with only 3,500 miles. If I decide to buy tires though I'm going to wait until the winter and then get some all terrains. I figure at least wear these crappy ones out a little longer while the ride is tolerable and save a little money at least.
  25. The sticker inside your driver door will tell you the build location of your truck. Your drive shaft definitely looks different than mine. Mine is silver, which I guess means it's aluminum. Build date on mine is September 2013 in Mexico. After seeing some of the vibration videos posted here I can say my truck definitely does not exhibit that kind of a heavy vibration. Just a slight vibration/shake in the steering wheel that I think is tire related as well.
