  1. Welcome to this forum and to the world of trucks. A sound system upgrade will enhance your truck but it apparently is not simple to do an oem upgrade. I would go to a store that specializes in audio installations and get a price on a aftermarket unit with a 7 or 8 inch screen. It will look like it belongs and can be equipped with all of the features you are missing. It will save you money, frustration and uncertainty. A proper installation will make your new sound system look like it was meant for your truck!
  2. The new normal I am experiencing continues to refine and improve. I appreciate that there are many who cannot say the same. It is easy to become immersed in the sad stuff but there is nothing wrong with sharing some good stuff. Yesterday, I had an excellent shopping experience at Costco. This was seldom the case at Costco on a Saturday afternoon! I left my house at 3:20 pm and at 4:10 pm I was back home unloading my new 65" television! The sad part of this experience has nothing to do with covid but does serve as a lesson on critical thinking. Part of the setup process was to register my TV with "Roku". Somehow, I got into a scam where they wanted a one-time fee for registration. Luckily, I caught on before it was too late but it certainly left me with a crappy feeling. This morning, I read the instructions and they warn you in bold print to be aware of scams. Who knew you were supposed to read the instructions? ?
  3. I actually meant the toolbox, but the clip is much more in my price range!
  4. I'm interested on what goes on the end of the Snap-on key!
  5. I watched an old Happy Days last night about the boys raising money to buy uniforms for their baseball team. Their antics and attitudes more loosely follow my baseball memories. I appreciate that the 50 + year time that has passed since my childhood has left me with the most selective of memories. Reading your posts causes me to think just how impactful recent events and/or changes will be on today's children's memories, attitudes and behaviors. In the same vein, I had my third televisit with a doctor yesterday. I told my caller yesterday how awkward it feels having a medical consultation on my cell phone in my garage. (he called earlier than scheduled). He said patients and Doctors seem to like this change and it will probably be normal practice in the future. I can remember as a child my doctor coming to visit me at home. This was a common practice and then it ended. When children of today are seniors, they'll recall having to pile into the family truck, "sick as a dog" and taken to a crowded waiting room and wait for an hour to see doctor for three minutes! There will be some positive outcomes from these times. (There is a forest behind the trees!)
  6. You'd think that this new normal (that changes daily) would increase my appreciation for online shopping. However, it makes me appreciate the value of in-person shopping much more. We tried ordering groceries online with less than satisfactory results. My most recent gripe is I bought my new motorcycle helmet online. My research made me believe that the Torc T1 was extremely popular and I felt fortunate to find my size at a uninflated price. It finally arrived and I am extremely happy with the "fit and finish". After a day or two, I checked the manufacture date. This was an upsetting 12/2018. I know most will suggest this is within reason but unless there is a significant sale price, I want my helmets (and tires) well within a year of manufacture. Understandably, I don't have a valid reason to return my helmet but I wouldn't have bought it in the store with this amount of time on a shelf!
  7. These testimonials to the longevity of our trucks are wonderful to read but conflict with my arguments for buying a new truck!
  8. I purchased a dash mount wireless camera monitor and three cameras from Amazon for towing my TT. It is a 7" monitor that allows me to toggle between the back of my trailer, the back of my truck, and the front bumper. You can display up to four cameras separately or all together. When I'm towing, I leave the trailer camera on and the monitor functions as a rear view mirror. (You'd be surprised how many people hide in a trailer's blind spot!) I sold the trailer and now just use the system's recording and viewing feature through my front camera. It is not discrete or OEM in appearance but, at the time, the price was good and it does the job!
  9. There are a lot of conflicting/hypocritical comments and actions surrounding Covid19 and it tales a lot of reasoning or common sense to guide your actions. There continues to be many strong views expressed in the media and in this thread that reflect a diversity of influences and perceptions. It is easy to find a contradiction or inaccuracy but this doesn't nullify the threat. I find it ironic when low infection numbers are used to criticize and/or ignore safe practices. Or, individuals choose to defy safe behaviors because of political beliefs.
  10. Watching the six o'clock news on Memorial (or Victoria Day) long weekend's crowded parks and beaches I think portrays an inaccurate picture of how we have changed. I had to run to the Drug store immediately after the news yesterday. The Drug store was in a mall and I was able to keep at least six feet away from everyone and there were "spotters" everywhere to make sure I remained safe and respected the guidelines. This new normal is definitely working well in my city and I believe this is not the exception. As an aside, it was interesting to see that this drug store had hand sanitizer as a daily special!
  11. It's a fine video. Not terribly informative but gives a decent real world perspective from a person who obviously likes his new truck! Thanks for sharing. Are you the producer of this video?.
  12. It is funny how when you're not allowed to do shop in a specific store, you want to shop there more than ever! Local businesses are open but have strict distancing requirements. I find myself looking for times when the lineup is short. I went to a second-hand building supply store yesterday that was by appointment only and a 20 min. time allotment. They took me as a standby. Since re-opening their business has been strong and steady. I imagine the new setup attracts the more serious shoppers and reduces the number of those looking for a warm/cool building with a clean bathroom! There certainly are some impressive efficiencies and order that have resulted from this pandemic. It has been a long while since I've seen anyone openly try to buck protocols!
  13. I had non-surgical masks accessible for the past month or two but have only used one on a few occasions. I've owned two that were handmade and a box of disposables. They were all tight around my ears and uncomfortable to wear. I fully appreciate the value in wearing one but avoided such need. Yesterday, a friend sent me a mask made by a retired nurse. She obviously knows what it is like to work for hours while wearing a mask! My new mask is a good fit, looks decent, and doesn't require constant adjustment. I will gladly wear this new mask where maintaining social distance will be problematic. If the look and/or feel of a mask is preventing you from using one on a regular basis, then keep trying different configurations. There are options for us who don't fall under the standard fit category! . Others wearing a mask is for your benefit. I initially thought people wearing masks was weird and unnecessary but now, at the very least, I see it as a kind gesture by a caring person. The bravado assumed by walking through a crowd bare faced today is increasingly seen as a selfish act. A person wearing a mask in public venues is actually more respectable and approachable, imo!
  14. Yes, returning to the old normal doesn't solve anything unless science has found a replacement to social/physical distancing, restricting travel and increased cleaning practices. There are many strategies to establish a "new normal" which is doing something. I believe most of us give more credence to health professionals than politicians and will exercise safe practices until science has smashed this scourge.
  15. Perfect! I think I'll buy two new helmets. I see some inexpensive DOT compliant 1/2 helmets that would be perfect for those in town short outings!
  16. Thanks! This is a great looking helmet. I tried on a modular similar to this but I'm hoping to find something lighter and more basic. I like the look of a traditional 3/4 helmet but now seeking chin protection. The retro style full face helmets look promising!
  17. A couple of days ago while filling my bike, my helmet that was hanging on my mirror decided to go for a bounce. Upon inspection for scars, I happened to notice that 10 yrs have slipped by since purchase. Once I told my wife that my helmet has passed its best before date and that all helmets come with a do not drop warning she insisted that I buy a new one for myself for Father's Day from her. What a shopping experience this is with Covid19 restrictions! The sales staff make sure you're serious before trying on a prospective purchase. I've always owned an open faced helmet but it is very evident that this is now a very unpopular choice. I have tried to research for information that supports open face helmets but perceptions have changed. An open faced helmet is better than no helmet is what I've found, but so is an outdated helmet! My searches/shopping have led me to retro styled full face helmets. I wear glasses and my brain is housed in a "2X" head so the search has limitations. Supply is also severely impacted by Covid 19. "Torc T1" has caught my attention and wondering if you have suggestions.
  18. I think this statement requires some more research. These two countries are significantly impacted by each other. The physical proximity alone is cause for mutual considerations. On a personal level, I have immediate family as citizens in both countries and we take a keen interest in and care about the politics of both countries. This thread is about the Coronovirus which has very little respect for borders! ?
  19. Thank you for the detailed response. It sounds like your county and state have things under control. I can say similar positives about my region and province. A few months ago, the virus was spreading rapidly throughout the world. Some areas like yours and mine were not severely impacted prior to implementing travel, cleaning and distancing restrictions. Global efforts to slow the spread were/are effective. (Greater efforts will be even more effective). Once we open up travel and increase our personal contacts, there will be more equality in the devastating impact of this virus. The only reason we are seeing declines in the rate of growth is because of strict measures. The word exponential often comes to mind when I read about this pandemic. It takes a lot of hardship by many individuals to bring these numbers down. It will take very little relaxation of these measures to make this growth soar to new heights.
  20. I would question the accuracy but not claim "BS". We are looking at patterns/trends. Fatalities are just as likely to be under reported. There are many people suffering extreme hardships as a result of this pandemic and we should all do our part to minimize the impact.
  21. How did you come to this conclusion? There has been no cure or change in the way this virus spreads. It has slowed down in many areas because we have drastically changed our behaviors. If we go back to our previous ways, so will the virus. Businesses in my area are slowly opening back up but only if strict social distancing and cleanliness protocols can be met. I understand that this topic provides fodder for political debate but the virus is very real and it is not over. I am not looking for a debate but asking that you verify the information that leads you to believe that the threat is over.
  22. Interesting point. I believe the recommendations still exist but having the choice to follow them was the issue.
  23. Repeating that the elderly are the most vulnerable does not reduce the risk for younger people. The division between young and old people is too convoluted when it comes to managing this pandemic that isolating seniors would not protect the work force. Several senior living complexes have been hit hard but so have prisons and meat/poultry packing facilities. Also, we all know a senior who is a model of good health (possibly still working) and a young person who is at high risk. There are also statistics available on discrepancies between ethnicity and financial status. Ideas like young people can gather in large groups but seniors should isolate could never be implemented or be effective. When I see people defying social distancing rules, young or old, I see people who have not had to suffer from a close tragic loss due to the pandemic. It took me a few years, but I learned a long time ago that I don't have to learn everything the hard way!
