  1. Good luck I really hope this lasts for you but its seems most vibration fixes are temporary. We hear it over and over. RF balance, replace the tires, repeat.... The fact that having to RF balance a tire to begin with means the tire is probably not good for a GM truck if you want to drive on the freeway. Ever wonder what happens to a tire that fails GMs RF spec? Gets installed on an older GM or a competitors truck with no problems. That highlight anything? I damned a set of Firestones that were junk on my truck. They ended up being installed on a 2010 Silverado and they were just fine. The only hope we have is somebody ends up making the perfect tire. Been some good comments around Michelin. I know this winter my Michelin snows were great until the weather warmed up. Now I'm the guy in the right lane on the 401 getting passed by Fords and such because the vibration is back. I hope the 22" Bridgestones will be ok when re-installed but if memory serves when they were taken off last November... probably not.
  2. But will it make a difference. I doubt GM will acknowledge there's a problem and we could end up the with trucks worth less than they already are.
  3. After driving to work this morning I have verified this has made it worse.
  4. I had a look at mine today and found the same as others around 40 ft/lbs so I re-torqued to 85. I can't say if it helps or not. I almost want to say it made the ride worse but I still have snow tires on and the weathers warming up so hard to tell. Thought I would add a link for u-bolt torque specification because I was curious what it was supposed to be. https://www.autoandtrucksprings.com/pages/U-Bolt_Torque.html
  5. GM hasn't assembled a truck in Canada since 2009. My GFX was one of the last built there and I was proud to own it. The Oshawa truck plant BTW was identical to Fort Wayne. My 2013, 2500HD came from Fort Wayne and it never was in the shop, it was a great truck. My current truck was made in Mexico.... worst piece of junk I have ever owned. Only story I can come up with is, when my rear end was replaced the 2nd time the parts had to come from Michigan because the ones from Mexico weren't "Certified". So whats that tell ya.
  6. A DiableSport tune. I'm using; 87Octane, AFM OFF, Firm Shift, TM ON. http://www.diablosport.com/products/i2.html
  7. I agree.... dealer payed, but was not expecting them to. My thought process was this. Hated the truck in its current state. Dealer was offering a buyback. I test drove a few trucks and they all had vibrations so I seen no point in another GM. I was prepared to look at the competition and then the dealer in an effort to keep me as a customer offered up the tune. They had previously done the same for other customers with successful results. I felt $500 as opposed to $10000 was chance I would take if it would fix it. Best thing I done. Not saying this is the fix for all but I bet its the fix for some.
  8. An Economy Mode button should have been part of the design. The loaner Equinox I spent a lot of time driving, drove just as bad a my truck did when its button was pressed. To bad GM couldn't have included this 50 cent button in my $60k truck.
  9. In my truck it did. I used to shift to M5 on any highway with speed limits below 100kph. I now have a tune that manages that for me. Best thing I've done to date is the Diablo Tune. Its like riding in a 70's Cadi IMHO. Just remember it can be anything causing the vibration you feel due to the way these truck are unfortunately designed. If you've been to the dealer and everything supposedly checks out and you feel the V4 shake (probably in conjunction with the truck in some fuel economy can't decide what gear to be in mode) then get the tune. GM support behind closed doors are recommending it to some techs. That's how I got mine. GM will not change the ECM/ BCM program due to fuel mileage. If they did then they would no longer be able to complete with Ford or Ram fuel mileage ratings with their current engine package. One thing folks need to realize.... these machines are just as much electronic as they are mechanical. Bad programming can cause a vibration also.
  10. Like others have said be very careful. Drive over 70mph and drive a long distance making sure the vehicle is thoroughly warmed up. I have test drove a bunch of 16s when my dealer was trying to talk me into a buy back and they all vibrated. Also keep in mind the dealer buy backs just get resold so somebody elses vibrators ends up on the road again.
  11. Not sure if you were referring to my experiences or not but a guy searching on the net with a truck that had a vibration came across a thread that says "shake or vibrations" didn't realize that it was a thread that had definitely determined that in no way shape or form that the at "speed" vibration is caused by the engine or transmission. My apologies for cluttering up this 8000+ post thread with how I successfully fixed my vibrating truck.
  12. My truck was a sluggish vibrating mess. On the advise of my dealer and unofficially GM tech support, I did a Diablo tune. Disabled afm, 87 octane with firm shift. Truck so far is working great. No vibration and I now love driving it. There is no one source for vibration in these trucks. The factory ECM/TCM programming was the source of mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I installed the shim on mine also. Definitely an improvement in throttle response with out the flex.
  14. Its actually true tomorrow.... another problem. The Lemon is dealer sick.
  15. I think this speaks to the super sensitivity of our trucks due to the stiff frames. You drive over a pebble and you feel it.
  16. I was told by a GM mechanic because of the narrow side wall on a 22" the cords or what ever, are layered a different way than say a 18" tire. This is what causes the flat spots that at least the Bridgestone Duelers suffer from for the first 20kms or so of driving and worse in colder temps. I asked if it was a Bridgestone thing and he said all are the same, there's no other way to make a 22" tire. Again I don't know if he was BSing me but I have to say I haven't seen flat spotted tires since the Bias Ply's on an old Fire Rescue truck that sat at the station for weeks at time. My truck sat for a week in November and the vibration from the flat spots was probably bad enough the throw a water bottle out of a console. After 20 or so kms it was gone. It was after that I decided it was time to start looking into vibration problems. At that time everything I knew about vibration was due to tires, tires, and tires. Then I found this forum. But I will add I was also told, a few years ago the only time they road forced balanced tires was when a tire was out of round or defective, conventional balancing was all that was needed. Now it seems every tire needs to be RF balanced, which kinda points to quality issues or cheap as you say.
  17. That was me and sorry it's a poor example because they are snow tires. Michelin X-Ice 17s and they are 1000 times better than the Firestones, they were out of GM spec. My stock tires are Bridgestone 22s and yes they thump first thing due to flat spots. I'm told its the nature of 22" tires due to way they are made dunno if its BS or not. You have to go back and read all my update posts to get the whole story but I'll abbreviate. Bought truck it was great 5000 kms slight vibration steering wheel 125 kph 90000 kms vibration worse. installed snow tires dealer put new rear end, now bad vibration 65kph and up. RF tires over and over and over, new drive shaft then another rear end, then shake at 65kph gone. Just shake at 120kph... new Michelins installed which fixed that. Then weather warmed up meaning snow melted and able to drive faster. Now intermittent vib in steering wheel around 80kph and 123kph with drone sound which is believed to be caused by ECM or something. Im currently driving a V4 it seems. Going into service this week dealer agrees something is wrong. I think really the Mechanics miss my truck.. they haven't seen it in couple weeks.
  18. They are right about colder its noisier... you should hear it at -20°C.
  19. LOL.... It would be nice if my seats heated as fast as that steering wheel did. In this the vibration was slight compared to mine... but give it time I'm sure it will grow into big beautiful fully loaded vibrator. When the salesman was explaining all the options and he got to the lane assist thingy and how the seat vibrates, I said you better disable that now... these trucks don't need any more vibrations added and besides how would you know when it was working?
  20. I drove a High Country today and GEEZ what a truck... That thing has options for the options. But guess what.. at 123 kph there's vibration in it's HEATED steering wheel. But overall better ride than mine. The 8 speed coupled with 5.3 actually shifted pretty nice. I guess I verified really no point trading to anything GM at this time. AFM is killing my truck. I noticed after the test drive mine was in AFM and only doing 20kph. Somethings wrong and NOT working as designed so IMHO Its officially a LEMON. This trucks had more garage time in its 3 months than every other vehicle I've owned put together with 30+ years of driving.
  21. Today's visit was an eye opener. The dealer was saying what a lot of us are saying to some degree. They all vibrate, some worse than others. The cause can be many different things but the conduit is the same, the stiff frame. So the fix appears to be new tires, shocks, rear ends, axles etc etc etc so how do you fix that and which one is it? We need a NASCAR pit crew I guess, to adjust our trucks depending on the weather and I mean this literally. Anybodies truck vibrate more when its warm? Fortunately today I got speak to the pit crew and I hope there's results. Service manager said today "We don't design them" but boy do they get the blame for all the problems. I've lost my cool a couple times. They can't do anything if its not GM authorized. If there's no TSB their hands are tied. GM won't cover the parts. Its nice to see the Verified GM rep here posting because that's a sure sign somethings up. Unfortunately I think we all know its just PR. There's a lot of folks here with problems and the Verified rep only picks one here and there. Whats the criteria to be chosen.. blue truck maybe red? Pretty random if you ask me. Not getting my hopes up lol. I was talking to my dealer today and they say you "Verified GM Representative" don't have any solutions.
  22. After taking a friends Silverado for a drive and reporting all is well with it I have been in some discussions with my dealer. I believe they are willing to go as far as a buy back but I'm not at that stage yet. They asked me to drive a 2016 Sierra just to see if it was the same as mine. Guess what vibrations... but has nice bright head lights. I was also told the dealer owners 2016 High Country Vibrates, so at this point there's no use in pursuing the buy back. I could just end up with money out of pocket and another vibrator. I had an opportunity to speak with the mechanics for a while and to talk about the symptoms my Sierra has. I am now looking down another avenue. Its amazing what gets lost in translation between the service writer and the mechanic. After they heard my version they are almost convinced my vibration is all due to ECM and TCM programming. As an initial step they want my truck back to check ECM programming to see if its current but what the mechanic really wants to do and off the books has suggested for other customers is a Diablo Tuner. Deactivate the AFM and get my transmission shifting properly. The GM program is only about fuel economy and not performance. He basically said if GM changed anything it was the same as what Volkswagen is facing with the emissions scandal so it ain't gonna happen. The mechanic says my poor 5.3 liter, 4 cylinder is stuck in high gear and that's what causing my vibration and the drone noise that goes with it. He acknowledged its wrong to have to pay for a tuner on a new pickup but its cheaper than the loss trading to another vehicle.
  23. LOL.. I really couldn't believe it myself, maybe it was the weather.
  24. Man I hope the spring clamp is the solution. I makes sense if torque is throwing drive line angles off, that the extra spring could be keeping things true thus keeping the vibration away. Today I had an opportunity to drive another truck to see if it had any vibrations. Its was 2015 Silverado Z71 CC.. very nice truck. No vibration at all... so they actually do exist . What surprised me the most is even though it shifted very similar to mine the engine didn't have any issues with it being in the higher gear at low speeds, mine vibrates like a bugger. I also noticed that it wasn't in V4 very much and when it was it didn't shake the truck like mine does. I think mines in V4 more than V8 and my V4 mode is similar to a Jake Brake IMHO. It was very nice of the guy to let me drive his truck and maybe if this vibration gets sorted, the poor shifting and AFM might not matter anymore..... lets hope.
  25. I wanted to believe the vibration was gone. I've driven truck a couple weeks and overall the vibration is better but its still there. An new rear end was installed to replace the defective rear end that was installed and new tires installed to replace defective tires that were installed. The vibration that's bothering me is in the steering wheel and has been there almost from day 1. The above fixes basically has put truck back to square 1. I think that GM is looking in the wrong place for a solution. This thread is full of tires, drive shafts and rear end replacement and some times there are positive results but I think the problem is motor transmission related. In my case driving 80kph is just awful until I put it in M5. Why IMHO... the engine is laboring because of the high gear and then add AFM it becomes a vibrating mess. At freeway speeds 115kph+ all is well until the AFM kicks in. AFM starts the vibrations but, it doesn't go away when AFM shuts off, I have to change speeds for it to go away. This has probably got something to do with harmonics, resonance or something like that. Another observation is the vibration is worse in wet weather. Maybe the motor is just running like a POS due to ignition stuff and shaking the truck. I've mentioned to the dealer that I don't think motor is running right but they plug it in and the diagnostics say otherwise. Basically the dealer has my truck in the working as designed category. I'm at a loss if I should just live with this and drive my automatic like a standard and pay big dollars to disable AFM. Frustrating that a $63k truck works this way comments appreciated.
