1. Conversion is done!! Actually really straight forward. Makes a huge difference IMO!
2. Hope everyone had a good 4th! Put about 1,000 miles on this past week. Came up with my own rear sway bar for under $150 all said and done. I'll post a step by step next week when I am finished with it!
3. Gave it the first good detail of the spring! There are a few maintenance items I have to take care of before I continue any of the other "fun" stuff but stay tuned!
4. The 19+ GMC emblem is wider and shorter unfortunately. No I have not yet, I am going to also put a denali cluster and wire up my steering wheel controls at the same time, thats next on the list! The emblem shines very bright even through the tint, I am very happy with it! All back together!
5. SPRING PROJECTS HAVE BEGUN! First off, time to get a properly painted bumper. The wrap looked good but after 2 years and 2 Minnesota winters it was showing signs of age. So rather than re-wrap it I decided to dive in and get it painted. Painting chrome is a task itself. The bumper was completely stripped to bare metal then will do some light body work and paint. I should hopefully have it back from the shop this week! Next was something I have wanted to do for awhile! https://www.autoledtech.com/products/copy-of-illuminated-gmc-led-emblem-logo-rgb-flow-series?currency=USD&variant=43912907718914&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google Shopping&stkn=78b1662f4198&gclid=CjwKCAiAx_GqBhBQEiwAlDNAZjCu66arA1jSyLb-mx8Nn5eyFYfFNnnnmR4HL4Os-sp3ZRDiCl6oXhoCec0QAvD_BwE I am a huge fan of Chevy's "Glowtie" and the newer GMC illuminated emblem. GM doesn't make one for the 07-18 style "GMC" grille emblem. I ordered the one above but one thing I really disliked is how exposed the dioads are. It looked odd to me So the plan of attack was some spray can lens tint. I used VHT in the past and results were mixed. But I am very very happy how this Rustoleum lens tint laid down! It looks super glossy and the LEDs shine through bright! I will get photos of it illuminated when I get the truck back together. All assembled!
6. That is super helpful thank you!! I didn't know there was an oem style upgrade, I will have to look into this one. Thanks!!
7. Well I did it! lol Finally Denali OEM LED taillights. I did like the LED's but it just didn't have the look I wanted. I used Harnessdr 14-15 LED taillight harness. I have used his harnesses before for my heated steering wheel and headlights. Always plug and play easy! I believe he is on this forum and if you see this, THANK YOU! For making these things like these so easy for us enthusiasts! You may also spot a black tailgate handle. Well I am working on hooking up a OEM back-up cam. More on that when I get it finished. Happy New Year!
8. After 2 years of owning the truck I finally up graded the radio! I am very happy with it, especially for the price. No issues and was plug and play out of the box. Although my truck came with next to no options it made it easier. I am very happy overall! https://www.amazon.com/Silverado-2014-2018-Carplay-Navigation-Bluetooth/dp/B0B19Y8P18/ref=sr_1_5?crid=24LV9E3UZ6JV0&keywords=2015%2Bsilverado%2Bradio&qid=1688053221&refinements=p_72%3A1248879011&rnid=1248877011&s=electronics&sprefix=2015%2Bs%2Celectronics%2C101&sr=1-5&th=1 Old WT radio Easy plug and play! Just needs a Denali Cluster!
9. Winter Mode engaged Still waiting on GMC center caps but to be honest, for winter wheels I really don't mind the look
10. No problem! Its actually super easy! Finally got a radio ordered!!! I will post updates on that shortly. I also did a good pre-winter detail and used about 2 cans of fluid film in every possible crevis I could find. Trying to keep the rust at bay. So far, so good. Winter wheels will be going on soon.
11. Thanks! And yes, it was just bolts and clips no adhesive
12. I got the frame painted over the weekend. The wax coating I used last year was junk for lack of a better term. So after doing some research and thinking, I used Tractor/implement paint. Perfect for a frame. High resistance to chipping and durable with rust protection. Getting all the other wax off the frame was a PIA This stuff is heavy duty I also added the rear rock guards or whatever you want to call them. One was broken when I bought the truck so I took them both off. I found some used on Ebay so figured I would replace them. Front done too I also picked up some winter tires for my 18's. 245/60/18 which is the same overall diameter as my 22s.
13. So after some debating, I decided to switch up the exhaust on the truck. The Carven system was nice but after awhile I started to get sick of the drone and it was pretty aggressive. It did sound good but for the amount I drive this truck everyday it was just too much. I went with this system https://www.americantrucks.com/proven-ground-53sierra1500-3-inch-single-exhaust-system-with-polished-tip-side-exit-s511855-53.html#customer_reviews The price almost seemed too good so I was hesitant but with all the good reviews I decided to give it a shot. I am glad I did! The fit, finish and quality was that of a system at a much higher price. It is much quieter than the carven system. Still has a nice rumble but 0 drone. If you want something slightly louder than stock but not much I highly recommend this kit! If you want something that will scare the neighbors than this isn't it. But for what I was wanting I am very pleased! Next on the list was front and rear brakes. Both pad and rotors. Nothing overally fancy, ACDelco pans and rotors. Rears looked like they had never been done so they were due. I also went ahead and painted the caliper and bracket when they were off. If you notice the frame coating I used last year did not hold up. So I will have to address that soon.
14. I used my factory ones, I sanded down the texture and used a really good adhesion promoter
15. Scored some winter wheels! 18's from a 2020 Tahoe but same as any K2 Silverado. Also ordered brakes next will be tires for the wheels, unfortunately time to start thinking about winter
16. In my never ending quest to dress up this truck I ordered some chrome speaker bezels. They look nice but fitment was terrible would not recommend them. But after some massaging they came out nice. Can't resist a photo op
17. I have done a lot of research in preparation for this mod, and there are not any how to guides on this so I figured I would make one! First things first is the parts list. Below is what is required for this mod. Window (includes regulator): 84819603 GM list is $735. I found mine new on Facebook Marketplace for $150 so do some shopping around or they can be found used on car-part.com for much less but make sure it includes the regulator. Motor and mount assembly (they are sold together): 23490454 GM List is $89.13. Perhaps can be found used cheaper but not a bad price from GM. I got mine from Ebay. Overhead Console with switch: I recommend finding this used because often junkyards leave the harness intact which you will need. I got mine on Ebay. Side benefit the Homelink is plug and play so if your truck didn't come with it like mine you now have it. Rear Window Lower Garnish Molding (Main longer piece): 22817432 Right Rear Window Garnish Molding: 22817430 *These are not required if you are handy with a Dremel Next is the harness and fuse tap I used. This is an aftermarket harness that I modified to extend the length I needed. Universal Power Window Harness: https://amzn.to/3Kz1qyK Micro Fuse Tap: https://amzn.to/47ls08b Once you have gathered your parts contact a local shop to install your window. Next you will need to figure out your trim. There are 2 ways to do this. You can buy the trim from GM or just trim a little off your factory ones. This is the route I took. Just line it up where is should fit, put some painters tape on mark it and with a carful hand just trim it and it looks just like stock. Next you’ll need to mount your motor and regulator assembly. Below are some pics I found online of a factory truck. Once that is all mounted up its time for wiring. Using the Universal Harness and factory switch is fairly easy. Here is a diagram. The GM switch is pinned out just like the aftermarket harness I linked. The factory switch and pigtail should come with the overhead panel just cut off the connector and splice it in. I routed the grounds together and self-tapped them into the truck by the fuse box. The power is ran to the fuse box (with an inline fuse) and tapped into key on power. Depending on your truck you may or may not have some of the options used to tap into. Below is a link to a great website you can poke around and figure out what fuse works best for your truck. https://www.startmycar.com/us/chevrolet/silverado-1500/info/fusebox Finally run 2 wires back to the motor. I ran mine through the headline and down the passenger rear trim. Once everything is connected you should have a working power rear window!
18. Here is a side by side showing the difference (if that is what you mean). The Silverado is a more glossy/metallic silver. The Sierra is a low gloss almost stainless steel look.
19. Success! Alot of work but I now have a fully functioning sliding rear window! I will do a write up shortly but I used a universal power window harness, spliced it all together and boom she works! I had trim my rear window molding to fit with the sliding rear window. I also did some other interior touch ups. When I got the truck it had the plane work truck interior with the matte black dash trim. I added trim from a LT Silverado but I did not know at the time that the Sierra and Silverado LT trim were different until I added the steering wheel. So I got some OEM Sierra SLT dash trim, but that came with an issue. It had the holes for the factory heated/cooled seats which my truck does not. So after some brain storming I decided to use the factory switches that came with the bezel to make it look as factory as possible while using my aftermarket switches. I found through trial and error this paint matches the factory console metallic gray/black very nicely I also wanted to do something with the door and console trim, I really like the carbon look on the All Terrain but they are out of stock through GM, so I smoothed my textured work truck trim and wrapped it in some vinyl which looks fantastic I will link it below. https://www.amazon.com/VViViD-Black-Carbon-Gloss-Realistic/dp/B00YLFSFWA/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?crid=3I38QUGL81LQ5&keywords=gloss%2Bcarbon%2Bfiber%2Bvinyl%2Bwrap&qid=1691428419&sprefix=gloss%2Bca%2Caps%2C111&sr=8-3-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1
20. That is extremely helpful thank you so much!!!! Had a great road trip, 790 miles got plenty dirty but hey that's what its for I did give it a quick coin wash after the trip there to get most of the bugs off
21. My goal is to finally get this rear sliding window wired up next week. I am no expert but there is not a ton of info online about this retro-fit. I have come up with this diagram. I also ordered a universal power window harness to start from. If all goes well I will go in depth so if anyone wants to do this in the future there will be a guide. Switch diagram that was provided (after I did some digging, the kit didn't come with printed instructions) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L162PC5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Annd some pics I took last night for good measure lol
22. I was actually just researching that one yesterday! This one too https://www.ebay.com/itm/234939100106
23. You are correct, it won't fit the front but in a pinch I'd just swap a back one to the front if needed. I couldn't agree more, GM really hit it with the K2. I have not owned a T1 but several GMT800's and my K2 has to be my favorite truck I've owned! I did get the spare mounted this weekend. I put tons of anti-seize on the hoist because they are notorious for seizing up. Then gave it a good detail ahead of my trip Side note, I really need to put a radio in this truck. I'm just still undecided on that route to go
24. Took the truck to its first show last weekend! Only low truck there lol The current project right now is getting a spare tire. It was missing when I bought the truck and I am planning long road-trip over 4th of July so I figured now is a good time to replace it just in case. Luckily I had the spare laying around I took off my Silverado SS before I sold it. Alittle wire wheel and paint cleaned it up Then obviously the stock tire size is too large for my truck, So I found a very nice used tire at work that is a equivalent size to the 22's I have on my truck. I ordered a new tire hoist as well so I can get it installed once that arrives.
