Hoping it’s just a bad sensor. When I got a 2014 Buick Verano (best sedan I ever had, wish I never traded it in but the life of a traveling consultant is hard on the miles), it was about 3 months old when it left me stranded about 15 miles from home in the interstate with a low oil pressure warning. Buick was great and got it towed and got me a Regal loaner on a Sunday while they held it to look at on Monday morning. Long story short, it was just a bad sensor. They replaced it, I got the car back, and proceeded to never have an engine related issue again while I owned it (they did have to eventually replace a part of the steering column for a failed support bearing towards year 3 but that was all).

2019 Sierra Denali RIP
heymrdjCW replied to jbshoo's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Here in Fort Wayne, Diesel seems to be getting popular. When I walked the GMC lot 2 Sunday’s ago, there was 14 new Diesels of various trims in the staging parking. Now there’s only 6 still on the lot. I wish the diesel wasn’t such an expensive upgrade. -
That’s the truth, all the trucks these days have problems. Though my 2017 Silverado was always in the shop for odd electrical gremlins, my 2014 Dodge Dart limited (with every piece that could go wrong installed on it) had a better track record than it did. I don’t know that I necessarily believe your dealer’s advice on RAM, my GMC/Chevy/Ford/Volvo/RAM/Jeep/BMW group of dealers under the same company is sick and tired of GM’s crap 8 speed transmissions. My friend in the service department wishes that the 8 speed transmission in the Colorado/Canyon never existed, as it took GM far too long to come up with a proper fix, leaving them to shoulder the public backlash of frustrated customers. Oh and the 2019 F-350 doesn’t have a V10, in regular or chassis cab form.

GM disappointingly small fuel tanks continue
heymrdjCW replied to Like-A-Rock44's topic in Future GM News & Rumors
Pretty sure that’s not certified for gasoline use, I don’t think any of them are due to the flashpoint factor. Only mentioned it because the police that had nothing better to do caught one of the RV transport trucks on a DOT stop and noticed it was a gasser, and the transfer tank full of gasoline. DOT doesn’t like non-DOT certified containers hauling gasoline. -
Thanks for sharing your experience. There seems to be some all over the place experiences between Ford and Chevy. For our department, hands down the 6.2 truck has been the longer lasting truck over the 6.0 Chevy. That’s not just a powertrain view, that’s a whole truck view. We have many of them over 250,000 and the truck has held together. Had issues with both models, the Chevy stuff being a little newer, but that’s our experiences. Mainly dump and service bodies. I really don’t think you can go wrong with either truck. Money saved on one issue will get lost on another.

2.7 has better driveability because the 4.3 takes over double the RPMs to make its torque. Much of the US outside of the Midwest doesn’t have easy accessibility to E85, so it’s kind of silly to use the numbers like your average every day driver is pumping that. My guess is the limitation on towing comes from maxing out the intercooler, where as a 4.3L doesn’t need one. In the real world, there won’t be any difference in the use case for either engine. I personally believe that the 4.3L will be phased out for a gen 2 2.7 eventually. They don’t make much sense in the stable together. I do think GM made a mistake going for 4 big cylinders instead of 6 smaller ones on the design. I think a 2.7 6 banger would have delivered better MPG. Either way, having driven both quite a bit now, I wouldn’t take a 4.3. -
Some tinfoil theory that if your truck has an issue, they can remote in via OnStar access to your computer and suppress the errors until after your warranty is up so that you have to then pay for a repair that GM should have put out as a recall to everyone in warranty.

I’m with you there. My 2017 5.3 would get 24mpg tips pure highway with the counter set to 100 miles. But real measurements (400 miles which included mixed driving) would barely keep it at 18mpg. All city was still more like 14mpg. My 2019 Canyon is getting 19.8mpg so far in the same loop, but only has 1,300 miles on it. Still breaking in. A turbo would be amazing, the 2.3 Ranger was more impressive in that regard. -

No, you just weren’t as high as I figured you were. Torque wise, the 2.7 reached its max output 3000 RPM ago. The 2.7 did it’s rated load in the same time as the 6.2. For the 99% pavement princess grocery getters around here, it’s more than enough. -

Turbos get a huge benefit over NA vehicles crossing mountain ranges. If you were crossing the Rockies, you were probably down over 30% of your horsepower. -

If it was a 2.7, it’s possible. 3.5 is just a no. Stock for stock, and without mechanical issues, 5.3 is a complete and utter turd to any 3.5 ecoboost. Having owned both I can say that with fact. Off the line, the 5.3L was slower than my naturally aspirated 1.6 Fiesta thanks to piss poor torque management. That thing had less than 120HP and a terrible 6spd auto. -

What’s the 400 mile average? A highway stint doesn’t matter, that’s why these trucks have a V4 mode. What’s the 100% city 25 mileage look like? -

I think I'll be in the market for a crew cab turbo by the end of this year, or spring next year. My dealer has 6 on the lot, so I might try to test drive in the coming months when my work projects are done and it's not so busy every weekend. -
You mentioned above regarding the bones not being chewed, I’ve attempted to get answers on the bones, you have not replied. You came to the 2.7 thread and posted your 4.3L mileage being better, stating none of these facts regarding your build. So I came to find your build and I see your question regarding these bones. If you can’t see the dishonesty in that, I can’t help you. Again, when you make a claim in a knowingly stock for stock thread. If we’re talking about changing transmission , lowering the truck, changing oil weight, and turning off the A/C on a 2.7, it’d be a great comparison. Maybe someone could try that. Going without A/C and things like that is hyper-miling. Nothing wrong with it, when done legally, as you’re doing. It is hypermiling though. Just semantics I guess. You do you. It’s a neat build.

Not bashing the speed limit. His thread history is missing the point. To post a claim to people, who may or may not have the history of the build, with a mileage number of a modified vehicle in a stock thread is dishonest. To post mileage attained only through hypermiling techniques so far out of normal driving in a stock thread, is dishonest. I don’t care what he does for his own personal gains. I care that he made a statement that the 2.7’s mileage is worse than his, didn’t give the facts, and then acts like that is reason enough to hate the 2.7. His blatant use of head in sand regarding the capabilities motor is astounding to me. I’m not even huge on the motor, because I tow a lot. It’s ok to be old school. I have nostalgia for clicky 100MB hard drives and tone driven BBS. But I don’t pretend that the old stuff I love is superior in almost any way to the modern stuff.

That is mighty narcissistic of you. Haven’t heard a response to the act of balance. FACT: Do you see big trucks throttled to 40mph? FACT: Do you see low speed operators still accept the weight of fairings and damns on their payload. FACT: Do you see all trucks with 2.39? Or do you see more midrange 2.70-2.90? FACT: Do all farmers stick with a T6 because it has most of the line pull, or is sometimes the T7/8 without the hubs chosen because it can line pull the same weight much faster? You won the hypermiling award, I don’t think anyone disputes that. However, we refer to real world use for a reason. If you’ve got nothing to do, your tactics all make sense. Some need to use their truck as a truck. I don’t raise or lower mine because it puts in work. It goes in the woods, it goes to the grocery store. It tows frequently. You have claimed that people only concentrated on speed. Yet when rebutted you remain quiet in the other points. The problem was your ridiculous claim of mileage in the other thread. A claim WITHOUT disclosing that your truck is heavily modified to one purpose, fuel efficiency. Dishonest at best. Now if you want to give fuel numbers for a stock 19 V6 like I had, but with your driving methods, those numbers could be taken for debate.
-
Also incorrect. Transport teaches you a thing or two. Number 1 is balance of these hypermiling techniques. Ask any professional driver that’s been on the road a decade or two. Just a hint, GM’s JiT loads aren’t compatible with 45mph.
-
You wiped out everything you said when you mentioned Midwest and only the interstates being over 55. All I can say is get out more. Strongly suggest you look at Indiana and Ohio. Plenty of 60 and 65 speed limit STATE HIGHWAYS.

Strangely enough, I find it odd when I drive from North East Indiana to South West Georgia, I have a hard time slowing the pace. Outside of Fort Wayne, highway 30 is 60mph with most doing 70mph. When I get off of I65 in Alabama and make my way into Georgia to Highway 97, speed limit is 55, but I’m lucky to find people going over 50. We just ride slow with our arms out the window. -

This is all getting quite off topic. If bustling around caused all life to be missed, the proper application of expedience was simply missed. There are places to gain time and places to lose time. Driving below speed limit is your prerogative. Likewise, I don’t do 90 in a 70. But 70 in a 70 gets me there fine and saves a couple of hours over a 900 mile trip in one day. Your life advice is nice, but is not applicable to all situations. Chase objects and your life will be hollow, chase memories instead. Moving quickly to gain the experience and knowledge required to earn the time to make those memories? Aye there’s the balance beam. -

Not sure what your location is or your mix of driving, the 4.3L I drove here didn’t even come close to that over 6 weeks. I put 3500 miles on it in that time. But I’m 70/30 city highway. My 2017 5.3 has a lifetime (just got over 20K yesterday) hand calculated average of 15.1. It’s all stock with 318lbs of tools in the bed. Again, 70/30. -

I feel like I'm the only person that likes the nice low chrome ones. I feel like all these tucked up to the rocker are serving no purpose other than to kick my large boots into the side as i try to get my foot all the way on the platform. I want a STEP, that my entire foot, front to back and side to side, fits on. That I can stand up and work on top of the roof while on it with both feet. -
That’s really strange, I thought that 19 was a new platform that we made forums for. Better tell the admins. Also weird how that 2018 has a 2500 badge. Didn’t know they made a half ton with a 2500 badge in 2018. I guess the more you know.

For shouting read, you’re doing a right terrible job of it. I told you I understand the Sierra, I don’t know how their packages work. I said I understand the chrome USED to be a thing, but it then stopped. This is the K2 half ton forum bud, it’s right at the top if you read. You can come off it.
