Hey Cheekster congrats on the order! Now starts the incessant following up to check status and progress! Did you have to work hard to find a dealer with an allocation they could use for your order? I have had an order ready to go for a '22 GMC 3500HD SLE since mid June and it's still not picked up. I am starting to think I am getting played. I don't want to miss the chance to sell my current truck at the high used truck prices because I need that profit to put down on the new one!

I think I need to find a new dealership. I had agreed to an order June 16 and I am still waiting for my order to get picked up. Is that normal? I am starting to wonder if I am getting the run around but I don't know why they would do that.

Well Guys the other day I was able to get my wife's impression of a double cab and as expected it was in line with the feedback provided here! We were on our way to the store and I swung by a Chevy dealership and they had a new double cab 2500HD on the lot and the doors were unlocked so I had her get in the back seat. I didn't tell her the back story about why I wanted her to sit in it just that I wanted her to give me her impression of the back seat. The first thing she said was how the bottom cushion is shorter doesn't support her leg like in our current crew cab and that even with the front seat pulled forward it felt a lot tighter. I asked her if there was any scenario where she could see herself riding back there and she said no way and got out! Well there you have it! My quest to see if I could make a double cab with a standard bed work has ended with a hard NO!! Back to searching for crew cabs. Thanks to all that contributed . I really appreciate this forum and when folks stay on topic and provide productive and constructive input for the sake of helping someone else.

Good points, Guys, and thanks for the first hand accounts! So far the feedback is consistent...even the current / larger double cabs don't support long(er) trips with adults in the back seat.

Just as an FYI when unloaded I run with the rears at 60 and the fronts at 50 or 55 and never see a light. Also I have the 5200 lbs front springs (snow plow prep) and do tow a travel trailer 8k - 10k lbs with a weight distribution hitch (puts weight on the front end of the truck) and it tows just fine. Personally I wouldn't switch to lower springs even if someone gave them to me just because it wouldn't be worth the effort meaning the 5200s are fine. As long as they fit I don't see why it would be a problem.

Looking at what MTU just posted and comparing to your part number you have the baddest bad boy of the bunch! 6k lbs! Guess when they combine the heavy diesel and the snow plow prep you deserve the best! All kidding aside, and not trying to insult your intelligence at all, have you checked the air pressure in your front tires? Maybe it's crazy high from the dealership. Even if its not too high try turning it down to 45 or 50 or something like that. It will make a noticeable difference. I have a '15 2500HD with the snow plow prep and the ride is entirely different at 60 vs 50 psi in front. I might take a little hit to the mpg but I don't care. I adjust mine back up when towing my camper but for daily driving I adjust the front and rears down and it turns it into a different truck. Give it a shot if you haven't yet.

JR, thanks for investing the time to look for it. Too bad GM doesn't make it easier to find. Build and price for the '22 2500s gives the option for a "heavy duty front spring/camper package" and for the 3500s you can choose the same package or you can choose a "snow plow prep/camper package" and that one does list "heavy duty front springs" as included but none of the three give you any indication how heavy duty they are or especially how much over stock they are rated. I thought I could find a clue in the 149 page 2022 GMC standard equipment and options document (pdf saved on my computer) but it was vague as well.

Hey thanks, Random, for the reply! It's great to hear first hand from someone that has been in a current HD truck with a double cab. Your experience is what I expected (but didn't want to hear!!). Crew cab is probably best overall and supports the "happy wife" mind set especially since she's used to a crew cab with my '15 HD. It would probably work for us during short trips but if we get into a 4 or 5 hour drive to go camping with a cranky kid or two we could have a problem. I hope I get a few more replies with additional perspectives. Why I am asking is I am intrigued by the option to go 2500HD with a double cab and standard bed. It cuts about 10" off the length of the truck and seems like it would improve drivability in town with parking and such.

I have a '15 2500HD crew cab now and am looking to get a new '22. Logic would have me move into a crew cab again because that's what I have now and the wife and young daughter like riding in the back seat. However, I am intrigued by the new double cabs. For the guys that have a double cab how would you describe the back seat experience? Do you put people back there on a regular basis without complaints or only once in awhile? I know the T1s have bigger double cabs than previous generations but I don't know if they are big enough to keep the family happy!! Thanks, Fellas!

Hey JR, if you can find that table with the torsion bars I would really appreciate it! That's because I am getting impatient waiting for my order to get picked up and keep looking online for something close to what I'm trying to order. There are many trucks that are close but many of them have the snow plow/camper package and I would love to see how far those torsion bars are from the regular bars on a '22 3500HD crew cab SRW gasser. Thanks!

Nice looking truck! It must be an SLT since it has the sun roof and doesn't have the AT4 or Denali grill. Did you order it or buy it off the lot? If it was ordered were there any constraints you had to work around? The inventory for the new 22s are on the GMC website starting yesterday and none of the SLEs have the Drivers Alert 1 package or the Preferred package so I am guessing those will be constraints I have to deal with when my dealer gets an allocation that can be used for my pending order.

Hey Elcamino I find that table to be very informative. Is there a way you can add the expected time between key milestones in the sequence? I know these days it's hard to predict but an estimate is better than nothing. For example how long to get from 2000 to 3000, or how long to get from 3300 and 3800, or maybe you have an idea of the duration between each line item....something like that. That will give some of us that have no idea about how long it could take. Thanks! I am learning a lot from you.

Good deal! So if your production week is 9/6 you could be in your truck by early October right barring any surprises from the crazy build schedules? How did you go about finding out your TPW timing?

Wait...Order placed June 24 and the truck is expected Aug 23?! 2 months! That's not bad at all considering what's going on in the market right now. You must be excited! At my dealership I am next in line for the 22 HD orders (3 were before me) so if this Thursday has an allocation that fits my order I'm officially in the waiting game. I just read this morning that GM Flint is going down next week so that won't help matters any but they are working 3 shifts this week so that will hopefully help clear out any early orders that were put in. Time will tell. Congrats and keep us updated as you get closer. Hopefully your sales guy does a good job keeping you updated.

Everyone is different but if it were me....I would not / could not settle on color. Maybe an option that I wanted but didn't need yes, but not on color and that's because I know that every time I looked at the truck I would think how much I disliked the color and how I wish I would have waited. For me I would borrow or rent a truck or delay my plans if necessary. When you get the truck you want to love it. Not love it until you see it sitting in your driveway :). I'm option #1 all the way. Good luck and let us know which ever way you go. Will be fun to follow your decision and timing on the TPW and delivery.

Another JR, hey thanks for checking the volts and confirming that only pin 4 is hot. Also, the pics are great. I just wanted to see what the factory set up looks like. The aux battery definitely fills the hole that is in that corner of the engine bay when the battery isn't there. I like that it's wired so the aux battery is disconnected without us needing to do anything.

Did a quick search and found the below diagram. It will be interesting to know which pins have power when the truck is completely off.

From research I've done recently including chatting in another forum with a guy that has a 2020 Chevy HD with the factory dual batteries I believe that the second battery powers the trailer connections (4 pin and 7 pin) when the truck is turned off and when the truck is running both batteries get charged. That way you can power your RV with the truck off and not worry about draining your starting battery. He traced the wiring using schematics he found online and then tested his truck with a meter to confirm it. I haven't been able to check it myself yet but he seemed to be confident and knowledgeable on what he was talking about. Is that aligned with your understanding?

Yes, please post pics of your factory dual battery set up. Now that you've had it a few months are you happy with its performance? I have a 22 GMC HD ordered with that option and I'm very anxious to see what it looks like from the factory.
