Before adding an amp, try replacing the speakers. I bought a non-Bose 2021 truck and the distortion from the speakers was unbearable, even at low volumes. ...I replaced the speakers with 3-way speakers from Crutchfield and they were the cure. ...Great sound at any volume. ....The original head puts out enough power to power the new speakers.

Aluminum Tailgate loading question.
cwtech replied to Boner Fortuna's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Another big issue is that the tailgate is not removed easily due to power latch and camera, etc. When loading heavy pallets on older trucks, the tailgate was easily removed so a forklift could set the load onto the bed, NOT the tailgate. ...The forklift could then push the pallet further onto the bed. ....Heavy loads placed on the tailgate only strained the support cables, not the tailgate itself. I bought my truck as a WORK truck. ....Many of the "features" make my work more difficult. While the trend is to raising the height of these trucks, the tailgate height of my '21 W/T is 4" higher than my '88 or '98. ....That makes a huge difference when lifting heavy objects. ....Bed sides are also higher which makes reaching over the sides almost impossible (I'm 6'-1"). ....Certainly not conducive for a WORK truck! -
Can you add a CD player in the center console?
cwtech replied to beanwagon's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I agree with copying cd's to a usb thumb drive. ...That's what I do. I have the base radio in my 2021. ....You can browse through the flash drive, play at random, or play continuously. ....I put approx 250 songs on a flash drive. ....Songs are played alphabetically, but genres can be sorted with a little creativity. -
I can't answer for your 2023, but I can relate my experience with my 2021 Regular Cab (2 door) Silverado. The truck (bought used with 5K miles) had the base radio and the sound was terrible, especially at higher volume. ...The distortion was unbearable. I contemplated replacing the entire system and/or adding an amp, but started with the door speakers. .....I installed Kenwood 3-way 6"x9" speakers from Crutchfield. (# KFC-6966S speakers & Crutchfield mounting adapters) ....They were all that was needed because the sound quality is GREAT. ...The factory radio has enough power that I can not be in the cab at full volume, and there is no distortion. I also purchased Kenwood speakers (# KFC-X2C) to replace the dash speakers, only to find that there were none in the dash, but the wiring for them was present. ....Hooking the tweeters up, I found they overpowered the door speakers and there is no adjustment for fade or balance. ....I ended up locating one tweeter on the top center of the dash and the other centered under the rear window. ....I added two 4-ohm L-pads to allow adjustment of fade and balance of each tweeter. While working on my truck, I had the truck windows and doors closed and the volume turned up. ....My wife came out to tell me she could hear it inside the house with the house doors and windows closed. ...I don't feel I need an amp or sub-woofers, either. If I were to do it again, I would probably not bother with the separate tweeters as the 3-ways have them built in.

Grounding accessories to Body or Frame
cwtech replied to Ronjon's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I suggest grounding to the engine block is more desirable than grounding to the frame or body.- 7 replies

Front Camera GM Parts & Installation Help
cwtech replied to GarandPappy's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
On my 2021 Silverado I used a Yakry Backup Camera mounted on my front license plate. ....I aimed it downward so I could see the front line in parking spaces. ....I'm sure it would work for you. I used a Model Y11 (approx $45) and hardwired it to the display which I mounted on top of the dash. ....I also put a switch next to the display so it only active when I chose. https://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Reverse-Installation-Waterproof-Yakry/dp/B073NZQTQN/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3SA7DUCAQLJFU&keywords=yakry+y11+backup+camera&qid=1674537921&sprefix=yakry+y11%2Caps%2C72&sr=8-1 There are wireless models also made by Yakry and may make for easier installation. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=yakry+backup+camera&crid=10HPG49PS09MN&sprefix=yakry+backup+camera%2Caps%2C118&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 -
YES !!! ...It has been a nuisance since I got my 2021, and I'm still not use to it. The foot position to operate the pedal is also annoying to me. After driving an '88 and '98 for 34 years, EVERYTHING will take a while to get use to. Tailgate height and bedside height are a p.i.t.a. for a work truck.

Crew Cab Standard/Long Bed Pics
cwtech replied to Amcguy1970's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
To the best of my knowledge, the long bed (8') was only available in regular cab configuration. Crew cabs had the choice of short bed or standard bed. -
DEALER SAID do that and you void warrantee
cwtech replied to Big_Kahuna's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
A local Chevy dealer sells new trucks which they have installed lift kits, and will warranty them. I spoke to another Chevy dealer and he said there are "GM approved" accessories which will not void the warranty if installed by a dealer. .....DIY installs and "non-approved" parts become a gray area for warranty coverage. A lot depends on the willingness of the dealer to cooperate with you. -

It was grounded through the old connections somewhere - possibly in the controller. Your original wiring schematic was not detailed enough to know. -

Talked to a friend yesterday. ....His 2021 Sierra w/6.2 (17,000 miles) also died going down the road. He previously had 1 lifter replaced. ...Then all lifters on the Left bank. ....Now they want to change all lifters on the Right bank. Dealer has had the truck for over 2 weeks this time. My friend called GMC and told them to buy the truck back. ....They settled on a NEW engine with a 7 year warranty. He likes the truck otherwise.

Looking for help on airbag compressor installation
cwtech replied to tweeder01's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
There may be other ways of doing this, but this is what I would do. A DPDT switch is available in toggle-switch style or rocker-switch style. ...There will be six terminals and they may be screw terminals or push-on or solder type. The reason for using a Double Pole Double Throw switch instead of a Single Pole Double Throw Switch (SPDT) is by wiring it as shown, you increase the life of the switch and add durability. The switch needs to be DPDT MOMENTARY (it returns to the center position when you release it) CENTER-OFF (no continuity to either pole). ....There are lots of sources online. ....Look for at least a 15 or 20 amp rating. .....Price will be anywhere from $5 - $20 depending on what you choose. Moving the switch one direction will activate the compressor. ...Moving the switch the opposite direction will activate the solenoid valve. -
Looking for help on airbag compressor installation
cwtech replied to tweeder01's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
i am not familiar with your system. Will the compressor run only when you want to increase the bag pressure? Where/how is the air exhausted to lower bag pressure? Does the solenoid allow the pressure into the bag, or is it there to exhaust air? Is there a check valve on the compressor discharge to prevent air leakage back through the compressor? -
An acquaintance was provided a rental car by his Ford dealer since they had no loaner, and his truck was in the repair shop for an extended time under warranty. ....(This was a few years ago when Ford came out with the aluminum F-150's.) He drove the rental for several weeks and one day he was pulled over by the cops and arrested for driving a stolen car! .....Ford or the dealership never paid the rental company, so the car was reported stolen. Long story short, under threats of lawsuits, he was acquitted of charges and rental fees were paid by Ford or the dealer.

Has anyone experienced, or been denied, warranty repairs after your suspension mods? I have a 2021 Silverado Regular Cab, 4wd, Long Bed W/T. .....The tailgate and bed sides are much higher than my 1998 Silverado. .....Since I bought this as a work truck, it is a P.I.T.A. for loading & unloading anything. ....Although today's trend is to LIFT the trucks, I want to LOWER mine! GM warranty states that suspension mods void warranty. .....I'm concerned if I have non-suspension repairs needed (lifters, electronics, etc) GM could deny warranty repairs. A local Chevy dealer will sell you a new truck with a lift kit installed. ....From what I can learn, this is a "grey area" with warranty coverage. The risk of high-cost repairs if warranty is denied makes me nervous. I'm wishing I kept my 1998 Silverado!

ADD AFM OR DFM to 2020 5.3 WT?
cwtech replied to Rich Cordova's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
If this link works, it should take you to a list of many 2020 Silverado RPO codes. https://www.gmfleetorderguide.com/NASApp/domestic/rpocodes.jsp?year=2020®ionID=1&lang=1&divisionID=1&vehicleID=21795 -
ADD AFM OR DFM to 2020 5.3 WT?
cwtech replied to Rich Cordova's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
The QR code on the door pillar is limited to approx 48 RPO codes. ....To see ALL the codes installed, you need to obtain a copy of the Build Sheet for your truck using your VIN. .....You can get that from any friendly(?) Chevy dealer at no cost. ....It was available online for free, but now costs $50. The dealer accesses the Build Sheet through their GM-Global network online. Apparently, if you don't have RPO FHS, than you do not have Flex-Fuel (E85). This is for 2020: FHS E85 FlexFuel capable of running on unleaded or up to 85% ethanol 1 - Requires (L82) 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine. Not available with (ZW9) pickup bed delete. L82 Engine, 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 with Active Fuel Management, (355 hp [265 kW] @ 5600 rpm, 383 lb-ft of torque [518 Nm] @ 4100 rpm -
ADD AFM OR DFM to 2020 5.3 WT?
cwtech replied to Rich Cordova's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Are you sure you don't have AFM or DFM? Which engine/trans combo do you have? ....Unless your build sheet specifies "without AFM or DFM," or has RPO YK9, you probably have AFM or DFM on a V8. The build sheet for my 2021 W/T does not show AFM as a separate code. ....My L82 RPO appears as "5.3L Ecotech3 V8 Engine with Active Fuel Management." -
I don't know if this is your problem, but what format are your music files? My 2021 with IOR radio will not play WMA files. ...I had to convert some of my music files to MP3 files.

2020 silverado WT speaker help
cwtech replied to lemkerailroad's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
New guy here, but maybe I can help. My recently purchased 2021 WT came with the IOR radio and crappy speakers. ...The radio does not have balance or fade controls, but does have a 3-band equalizer. ....Doing my research here, I learned I wasn't the only one to complain of the poor quality sound. I replaced the 6x9 door speakers with Kenwood KFC-6966S 3-way's ($60) and the sound is incredible with the factory radio. Falsely thinking I had dash speakers, I bought Kenwood KFC-X2C speakers ($80) for the front corners of the dash. ....Upon disassembly I found no front speakers, but I was surprised to see there was factory-installed wiring for the speakers present, so I installed the Kenwoods. ....They are a perfect fit. The IOR radio is powerful enough to power the 4 speakers. ...Sadly, without a balance/fade control, the small dash speakers drowned out the 6x9's. ....I am installing L-pads so I can adjust the volume of the dash speakers separately. ...This should allow balance/fade to be adjusted for the fronts. I have considered mounting speakers behind the seats, but don't feel I need them. ....There is plenty of power in the factory amp, and it will pump out LOTS of volume. Adding rear speakers without having balance/fade control is one step backward IMHO. Many of the songs on my USB flashdrives would not play, so I had to convert the WMA files to MP3 format. ....Apparently the IOR will not read WMA files. -
Wire routing - Cabin to Underhood ??
cwtech posted a topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Hello, All -- New guy here. 2021 Silverado 1500 W/T I am trying to learn the best location to route a wire from under the dash to under the hood. ....The wire has an approx 5/16" diameter plug on the end (which can not be removed, cut or spliced). Any suggestions? ....I am not opposed to drilling a hole, but I don't want to cause any problems by hitting plenums, ducts, a/c, heater core, hoses, etc. I have read many of the other threads, but don't see any suggestions. ....Thanks for any help you can provide.
