  1. Here is a place to post everyone's UOA's. Doesn't have to be from your truck. I figured it would be cool to see other vehicles as well. It can give us a better understanding on all the manufactures, even if you do a UOA on your lawnmower. This way we can compare how our engines are wearing. I'll start and this one is from my daughters 2012 Cruze 1.4 turbo and from Synthetic Advantage ISO certified Oil Analysis
  2. No need at all. I ran 5w-30 in my 2002 with the 5.3 with outside temps in the high 90's with no issues. I even ran 0w-20 for over 5k miles to see if it made a difference and it didn't. This was at 150k on the truck at that time. 5w-30 is all you need. 10w-30 would be fine as well. No need for 10w-40.
  3. To my knowledge the GM performance filter isn't cleanable. It is replacement only. I was lucky enough to grab 2 extra filters that AMSOIL offered before they discontinued them. Now that I have 25k on the truck, I already replaced the GM with the AMSOIL and have a spare. Stinks that AMSOIL stopped making their air filters. If I knew they were going to stop I would have gotten more. They were less expensive than the GM filter. When the time comes, I'm gong to shop around for another replacement. If I can find one from like aFe that is less then GM then I will go that route.
  4. Isn't Banks another tuner that is putting out tunes for compliant emissions?
  5. Sounds exactly like my 2016 Suburban. The torque converter went out. If you keep driving it more damage can be done. Better to get it taken care of. Local shop here is rebuilding our 6L80E for $3,600, this includes a billet TC, upgraded valve body and a few other upgraded parts from Sonnax. The dealer wanted $6,000 to put in a reman GM unit. GM came with a 3yr 100,000 mile warranty and the local shop is only a year or 12,000 miles. We will run out of time before we put the miles on now that we are not diving much.
  6. Try swapping coils and see if the misfire follows. Then you know what to change next.
  7. If it's because nobody is posting about it, then that's because it is an awesome engine and never breaks. Only issue is mpg isn't the best.
  8. Just got back from the transmission shop. The individual that is rebuilding our transmission was really nice. Took the time to answer my questions. A billet TC is going in, as well as an upgraded valve body and a few other small improvements that he has learned over the past 20yrs. They use upgraded Sonnax parts which my understanding is good. So far they are still working on two ahead of me but said that they should have me out by the end of next week.
  9. 4/22/2022 2012 Cruze 1.4 91,495 total miles 7,168 miles on oil OLM at 10% Oil AMSOIL Signature Series ASL 5w-30 Ea15K35 No oil consumption, still read full on dipstick. Sent same in.
  10. Yes, this is an older thread. I've been researching and calling places like Circle D, Pro Torque, PATC and Florida Torque Converter. They all highly recommend getting a billet built converter, having the transmission tuned so that it locks up in 5th not 2nd and reducing the lock up pressure along with disabling AFM. Florida Torque converter has a lifetime guarantee on their converters and have them in stock and seemed to be the most reasonable in price. The gentleman I spoke with was very nice and knowledgeable and spent time to answer my questions. The others did as well but I just felt FTC is more on the lines of helping the average individual with stock vehicle needs and not in the racing hard core builds that the others cater to.
  11. Time to bring out the dumb things I've done. One other was when I had my 1988 Beretta, Remember those? Loved that little car with the 2.8 and 5sp. Well changed the oil and forgot to put the cap back on, but had it on top of that nice shinny aluminum manifold. Went to close the hood and it didn't want to close. Then there was this nice dimple in the hood. Car was black so you could really see it. Needless to say, I never did that again. Dad said, learning from mistakes is the best teacher, but is the hard way to learn.
  12. I'm doing serious research on TC's. Going to get a good idea on what is a quality one and what isn't and then go from there. Since the shop is back logged, it isn't going to be worked on any time soon so this gives me a good chance to find a quality TC with hard data. Looking at CTS-V or Zl1 converters, they are suppose to be good but I want to make sure.
  13. AMSOIL's ATL transmission fluid would work great in the 8sp. Use AMSOIL Signature Series Fuel-Efficient Synthetic ATF in transmissions and other applications that require any of the following specifications: Aisin-Warner AW-1; BMW 83 22 0 142 516, 83 22 2 152 426; Chrysler MOPAR* 68157995AA, SP-IV, 68218925AB; DSIH 6p805; Ford MERCON* LV, SP, ULV; GM DEXRON* HP, DEXRON* VI, ULV; Honda/Acura DW-1*, Type 3.0; Hyundai/Kia SP-IV, SPH-IV, SP-IV- RR, NWS-9638, SP4-M; JASO 1A-LV; JWS 3324; Mazda ATF FZ; Mercedes Benz 236.12, 236.14, 236.15, 236.41; Mitsubishi SP-IV, ATF J3, ATF-PA, ATF-MA1; Nissan Matic-S, Matic- W; Saab 93 165 147; Shell M-1375.4, M-1375.5, M-1375.6, M-L 12108; Toyota WS; Volvo 31256774; VW/Audi G 055 005, G 055 162, G 060 162; ZF S671 090 255. AMSOIL Signature Series Fuel-Efficient Synthetic ATF is backward compatible and replaces DEXRON III fluids in older GM automatic transmissions. (DEXRON VI specification supersedes the obsolete DEXRON III in GM vehicles.) Also suitable for Toyota CVT applications calling for the Toyota “WS” specification
  14. I'm guilty as well. Long time ago back in 2005 or so in my 2002 Silverado, I was on a trip to TX and went to clean my windshield with washers. Well I hit the wipers to wash and no fluid, did it again and nothing. I figured the pump went out for the washer fluid. Went and got a new one and and installed it and same thing, then I realized I was just hitting the one wipe button, not the wash button. Lesson learned and I had an extra washer pump. Life goes one. One thing, this thread brought to my attention the "clear flood mode" never knew about that. Good to know!
  15. I can't find the drooling emoji!!!!! EDIT by txab: ^^^Fixed it for ya.
  16. For me it was the 6.2 for the fun factor. Not a daily driver so mpg isn't an issue. Plus, when I got it back in 2019 it was the only way to get the 10sp.
  17. Throwing out idea's but maybe the filter dropped down out of the transmission and it isn't getting full fluid to put pressure on the clutches? Drop the pan and inspect to see if there is anything out of the ordinary.
  18. Yes, that is what happened. Wild how it went out, at least to me all at one time. Started with making a noise and 5 miles later no gears. Trans shop said they fill the filter up and stop fluid flow and that is why no gears. Shut off and sit a few minutes and drives again but noise still there. Got it up on the rollback at least. Hopefully I shut it down and no other damage. Local place is rebuilding it. They see these all the time from 30k on. They rebuild with upgraded valve body and TC. The fact that I'm using the same transmission. I shouldn't have to put my tune back in I wouldn't think since they are just doing all mechanical stuff. I will deactivate the AFM. Contacted Black Bear Performance on it and waiting for my tune. No hurry, since the shop is behind 3 weeks. I'm curious to see how the inside of the transmission looks since running AMSOIL from the beginning and changed it out at 45K when I dropped the pan and replace the filter. All looked great then.
  19. Well, at 81k add me to the list of transmissions going bad. AFM was still in play so I'm thinking that was the issue from what I have researched. Fluid changes were done so that isn't the issue on this problem. Several transmission shops I contacted stated they have seem them come in like mine anywhere from 30k, 40k and up. Seems to be another great GM engineering fail. Yes there are those out that are at 200k plus, But for me the way I take care of things, I was hoping to be one of those. Like on my 2002 Silverado that had over 200k on it with no issues other than a bad alternator at 135K. It still had the original front brake pads when I sold it.
  20. Sucks that this happened. At least you were not on a major trip and you are getting a new engine.
  21. It's just not a popular vehicle for the most part. Mainly why you didn't get much of a response. Most come here with trucks in question.
  22. What year is your vehicle? Could be that it isn't/wasn't upgraded.
  23. Welcome to GMT. There are good threads on here. One you might consider is to change out the transmission thermostat to the new one GM came out with. It will run much cooler.
  24. $20 is what places around here charge if you bring your own oil. A few were at $15 but they upped their price. Still not bad if you want to use AMSOIL.
  25. We have Costco as well and have their Visa card. Got $500 cash back from what we spent on the card last year and $430 back this year. We get 4% on gas purchases at any gas station 3% back on restaurants and eligible travel 2% back on purchases at Costco and Costco.com 1% back on everything else. So we pay our insurances with the card, fuel, and pretty much anything else. We shop at Costco a bunch for most of our produce and a few cooking things. Plus some frozen stuff. Doesn't take long and it adds up. Wish the Costco here had diesel but they don't, just Top Tier gasoline. As for wipers. Up until last year my vehicles were garage kept and the wipers lasted a long time. Matter of fact, my 2019 Silverado that I got in Jan of 19 still has the factory blades. I've had good luck with Trico Tru fit. I tried the Michelin's from Costco that were on sale for $5 and they were trash. Left streaks.
