  1. What suggestions or advice is available for buying a GMC | Chevy truck? What should I watch out for -- the GOOD and BAD? I want to come back to the GMC | Chevy family. For over 20 years, we owned a 98 GMC Suburban, putting over 230k miles on it myself, and I LOVED that truck. Other than typical wear and tear -- I never had any problems or issues with my Suburban. I am looking at 2016-2022 -- GMC | Chevy 1500 | 2500 series, all trims (4x4), except the base models. My budget is around $35k plus'ish; yes, I understand my budget limits what I can get. I am a USAF retired veteran living off a fixed income. Yes, we tow hitch pull RVs and various trailers, but not as often as before. What are the GOOD, BAD, and UGLY these days on the GMC | Chevy trucks? Is the additional price for either diesel and/or 2500 worth it? SHORT STORY: so, a few years ago, I bought a 2015 Ram 1500 4x4 EcoDiesel 6cyl w/turbo Lonestar -- well, I have been disappointed with Chrysler | Fiat (FCA). They lied about the EcoDiesel, and after forced recall ECM updates, they sucked all performance and mpg from the truck. Buying a newish GMC | Chevy, I do not want to fall into what happened with my 2015 Ram. When I had my suburban, I never had so many recalls, been lied to, and never had poor performance. Thanks for any suggestions that you will provide -- Gary (ExFalconFxr)
  2. Ok, I want to come back to the GMC/Chevy family. For over 20 years, I owned a 98 GMC Suburban, putting over 230k miles on it myself and LOVED the truck. I too owned a 2003 Chevy 1500...put many miles on it too. I am looking at the GMC/Chevy 2500 series diesel trucks. I will stay within the 2016-2019 year range, with about $35k plus'ish budget. I might look at the 2021 trucks, only due to many deals/rebates etc. What suggestions or tips are out there for these trucks? What should I watch out for and/or look at getting? 3. Good morning...I wanted to see if anyone else has been shopping for a used GM large SUV? (Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Yukon XL) We have been window shopping for a little while now...and I was getting really close to a deal for a used 2019, with less than 30k miles. I started reading some articles that are indicating the supply market is building up on these (probably all vehicles) in whole sale auctions, rental fleets, corporate fleets, lease returns etc...but no where to sell them... the demand has dropped out...some are estimating used car prices will drop 10% and stay lower longer than back in 2008. I was curious what/if any experiences you have had while shopping for a used vehicle? I'm not sure the dealers have really had the wave him them yet...but I'm sure its coming... good or bad experiences? Thanks in advance for the discussion.
  4. looking on purchasing a 2008 1500 with the 6.0. it has around 170xxx miles. what should i be looking at when i test drive it and take a closer look at it
  5. I've been wandering these forums for a little bit now - I was initially looking hard at a 16+ chevy. Then realized it wasn't practical for me to buy another newer truck. So I then started looking at 07-13 trucks.... Then realized I don't want to deal with the 5.3 AFM issues.... So now I'm very interested in even older ones, from 03-06. I have been looking for about a month and have now found a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT that is 2 hours away. Heres the info: - 2006 GMC Sierra SLT 1500 4x4 5.3 - 127k miles - crew cab - leather - heated & memory seats - electronic everything - sunroof - matching cap - tinted windows - Grey color (MY FAVORITE) - 2.5" lift - GMT900 wheels - few other add ons, only a few repairs to the front end... mostly untouched - new rear brake lines The bad: - rusted out driver side rocker, but the passenger side is almost flawless (so he says - the pictures look like its good) - dent/scrape on the passenger side from the rear door to the beginning of the bed. I got an estimate to fix all of the body issues from someone who I personally know who does professional body work - ~$2,200 to repair. I will post pictures later when I'm able.... But for now I wanted to get a feel for what everyone who is experienced with these trucks thinks about it. I have him down to $8.000 cash. Do you think that is a good deal? It seems that these crew cabs are GOLD and hold their value like an old jeep. I love the truck so far. I don't mind the rust because it is all contained on the bottom rocker - which can all be replaced as one when I see fit. Does this sound like a good deal? Obviously I'll probably have to have work done on the front end in the near future. I am planning to go look at it 10/7/17.... exactly 1 week away. Thanks for your input.
  6. Flemings Ultimate Garage has been the best muscle car dealer over the years. I found some of the finest and exotic muscle cars ever built by Ford, Chevrolet, Plymouth, Shelby, Dodge and others in their inventory.
  7. I am in the market to buy a 2003-2007 Silverado/Sierra. I would like some pre-sale advise and some questions answered if you guys can help out. 1. Is more than 150k mileage a lot? 2. What are some common things to look for before buying? 3. 4.8l vs. 5.3l? Is one better than the other in terms of reliability? 4. Any known issues with this gen of silverado/sierra worth mentioning? I have never purchased a vehicle with over 100k miles so I am a bit nervous. The last thing I want is to be spending a bunch of money on repairs and/or trips in and out of the shop. I guess it is also worth pointing out that I am trying not to spend over 13k and have about 2k set back for the dreaded repairs. Thanks guys!
  8. The wife wants to get a used 2015/2016 colorado/canyon when her lease is up on her car. I was looking more at the v6 for her. Any suggestions? Are these decent little trucks? Fuel mileage, any power? She would probably hang on to it for longer then a couple of years. Any feedback would help. Thanks
  9. So, I returned from my second deployment in October of this year, and a week later bought my 2013 Silverado. After shopping online in the weeks leading up to my return home, I found this one about an hour away from me, and when I went to look at it, I fell in love. 2013, 4x4, 97k miles, and that's all I really knew about it. The dealer didn't know much other than the first and only owner before him was a commercial ranch in Northern California. I test drove the truck, and fell deeper in love with it. $23k later, I'm driving it home. Lesson #1: Take your prospect vehicle to a shop before buying! About 45 minutes into the drive home, the brakes are SCREAMING. Naturally, I was pissed. I called the dealership multiple times, to no avail. So the next day I take it into a shop nearby. The manager comes into the lounge after looking at my truck, looks at me and says "You drove an hour on these?" I say, "Yeah.. that bad?" He replies "I can't let you drive that thing back out of here. Pads and rotors." So, of course, $600 later, I'm furious that I bought that junk for $23k! But eventually I get over it. Lesson #2: REALLY do deep research on the prospect vehicle, and don't stop researching even after buying. Fast forward to two days ago (when I found this forum) and you'll find me sitting at a desk on 24 hour duty, bored out of my mind researching everything I can about this truck that I warmed back up to after my first hiccup. I learned on this forum about the RPO codes that can be found in the glovebox - and so I look up each and every code. What I didn't expect was to find my truck with the Z71 OffRoad package as well as all the All Star Edition luxuries and towing capabilities! I also found the original sale receipt for this truck in the glovebox, which states that the original owner had paid $38k MSRP for this truck. So right now, I'm thinking that $23k wasn't too bad... and of course, I ordered Z71 decals for my truck (I've wanted one since I was a kid). Overall moral, find someone with expertise when looking for ANY vehicle, but especially used.
  10. Chomping at the bit to get the call to come pick up my new Sierra SLT AT 4x4. This is also my first new vehicle purchase and I wanted to get the forum's advice on some of the things to look out for before I sign anything and drive away. Are there any known issues or defects these GM trucks sometimes have? What are some things you would check before signing the dotted line and drive off the lot? I appreciate all your advice and thank you in advance. - Al
  11. I was wondering if anyone has bought reproduction wheels from the OEWHEELS website? I have been on a few other forums and I am getting mixed reviews of their products. Some have said the chrome chips off rather easily and others say they have had their wheels for years without any problems. They have what i am looking for, I am just questioning the quality of the wheels. Price is rather inexpensive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
