Those 2016 GMC Sierra Canyon and Yukon owners who have the available eight-inch IntelliLink system will have Android Auto installed by their dealer starting in March 2016. The only change required will be a software update. Google Maps, Google Now and the voice interface with Google form the backbone of this new system. A wide range of Google Apps such as WhatsApp will also be compatible. A single button on the steering wheel will enable users to use voice commands to operate the Android Auto system.

Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president, Buick and GMC commented on the system, saying, “Providing Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility ushers in a new era of staying connected in a convenient manner."

Apple Car Play is rolling out sooner and will be available in many markets in the fall.
