The new 2017 Bolt is a real vehicle. It is no longer a rumor. GM's press release today included "...will go into production by the end of 2016." GM brought a Bolt to the show and offered rides around the parking lot, a common practice for pre-production vehicles awaiting launch. The five-passenger hatchback Bolt has a large greenhouse and a steeply-raked windshield. Like the Toyota Prius and Kia Soul EV, the inside is very Spartan and clean. We will wait a little longer to comment on all the goodies. Things tend to change between a first reveal and a production-ready model. ![]()
Chevy isn't reinventing the wheel with the Bolt. It uses a flat floor with an integrated battery like most modern EV designs. What Chevy is doing is leveraging its financial strength, engineering might and buying power to jump into a space that the other guy in town has been talking about (and talking about, and talking about...).
