Shake or Vibration Issues
Silver space ship replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Original poster here. Wow, it's sad to see this still going on. I get updates every day on this topic but honestly I try not to read them anymore. I did want to share that after getting rid of my Silverado that the Seirra I traded for has always been much smoother. I've got 42k on the Seirra now and just put new tires on a few thousand miles back. I ended up going with the Kumho Road Ventures AT51's and I will say that the truck did get even better with these tires. A few weeks ago I noticed my truck was smoother than I've ever noticed it before it was like I was in a Buick, it was crazy. I don't know if I just had the perfect tail wind or what but it was like glass! It's usually pretty good but never that smooth. Now just the other day I parked my truck outside my garage with the front tires on my garage apron and the rears on my gravel driveway. The apron has a slight incline to it. It was parked from Friday when I got home and I didn't drive it until Monday to go back to work. I don't know what happend or why but my truck shook for 10 miles going to work that morning worse than my old Silverado ever did. Got to work and thought I must have mud in the wheels but when I look they were clean. Drove home after work and the truck had been just fine ever since. This isn't the first time I've noticed it shake more after parking without moving it for a few days. I've noticed it with both trucks. If I leave the truck level on the driveway it seems fine after a few days so I don't think it's the tires flat spotting. I don't know what it would be but it's almost like when it's parked with the front end higher something is draining out of or into something after its sits for a few days inside the tranny or something. -

I did all the common stuff, road force balance and even new wheels and tire but still never got it to go away. Even had a engineer look at it and tell me it was normal. I went to the dealer to trade it in on a 13 f150 but ended up getting another 14 but a Sierra this time. The Sierra is much better but at times a vibration for the first few miles but it always goes away, some days it's worse than others and some days it's like it's not even there. I would swear it's the tires from sitting but doesn't explain why some days are different than others and some days it's gone in a mile and some days it takes 4 miles. I could swear it's getting better with more miles on the truck and seems like I don't notice it more often than I do lately. Overall much, much better than the Silverado was. I'm do for new tires before winter so I'm almost nervous about it because of how nice it rides now. Funny looking back when I posted that, I was afraid I was going to get jump on for posting that thread being so new to the forum. I didn't think people would believe me! I still get updates emailed to me daily on that topic but I only read them from time to time, still seems like no fix for most. -

Shake or Vibration Issues

Believe me I know about what has been done I'm the OP of this topic. Not all the vibrations are the same and others have posted the same issues I have when first driving their trucks in the morning. My 2014 GMC has some different vibration characteristics then my 2014 silverado did but it's for the most part the same just smoother at highway speeds. It was 45 degrees again this morning and I let the truck warm up for 11 minutes, tranny temp was 70 when I took off. The vibration wasn't even close to as bad as yesterday it was it same old vibration I've had that comes in around 45 that I have been experiencing most the summer. Tomorrow I will not let it warm up and see if it was as bad as yesterday. -

So this morning temp was 45 and it really vibrated bad (possibly the worst so far) for the first 2 miles, after about 4 miles didn't really notice any. Defiantly thinking my vibration is cold engine or cold tranny related. What's going to happen when it's -40 this winter? Tomorrow I will let the truck warm up for 10 minutes before I drive and see if that helps. -

When I started this post I thought I might be the only one, and know body will believe my thinking I was just trying to stir the pot. I had know idea if others where having issues. Sadly I never thought it would have turned into this. -

My first truck had 18's and shook worse then my new one with 20's. -

I'm the original poster of this topic and I'm on my second truck and now have about 6000 miles on my new GMC truck. First off this one is better then the last Silverado as far as vibration but it still has some. I would say cruising speed is better but not perfect (I try to talk my self out of it having a vib at hwy speeds to keep my sanity). I don't know if I have the 73 mph vibration because honestly I don't think I've had it over 70 yet, and if I do it's not going to bother me because if in 6000 miles and I have drove over 70, well you get my point. My biggest gripe is when I leave my driveway in the morning it really shakes for the first 4 to 6 miles. I've tried telling my self it's just the tires flat spotting from sitting over night but I'm really starting to think its something more because it can sit for days and it's never worse then if it just sits overnight. I started to think it was motor related so I started letting it warm up for up to 10 min and it didn't seem to help. I've read back about 10 pages now and have found 3 people with the same issues and I'm leaning more to cold tranny temps. I never thought to look at the tranny temp gauge but even after a10 min warm up the tranny probably isn't very warm yet. My ride to work sucks but the way home is always better but now that it's getting colder out I'll see if that changes. There was this spot on my way home from work where my silverado shook and drove me nuts while getting up to speed and the gmc seems to be so much better, almost no shake at all but I have been accelerating faster with this truck then the last one. Today I decided to accelerate slower like I did in my old truck and I got the same vibration. The only difference is, slow or fast in my silverado I got the vibration. It's been interesting comparing two trucks to each other. Some problems are the same such as moving seat issue and vibration but I really thinking the GMC (current one) might actually have more issues (mostly small) then the first one that was the first 2014 to roll of the dealer lot 10 months earlier. -

Ok I did a test, water bottle in one cup holder about 1/2 to 3/4 full and a plastic cup with water with ice cubes in. The water bottle looked like the one video and the plastic glass no vibration at all just like the other video. After the ice melted down to only 2 pea sized pieces it still showed no vibration but as soon as all the ice was melted the cup and water bottle were exactly the same. Case closed! Mine looks just like hicks video too, and I didn't think my was even bad when I compare it to the 14 silverado I had. My water bottle shakes like that at 60mph (and probably slower) and I just figured it was the road but after seen the second video I'm blown away by how smooth that truck is. Question is, in the smooth video is there ice cubes in the drink? That might make a difference, I'll have to,give that a try. Like I said, I thought my Sierra was smooth but maybe my silverado was so bad that it just makes me think it's smooth. -

with the 20" wheels you have less side wall and because of that a rougher ride, so GM has the 20" at 32psi cold to help dampen the ride and the 18" wheels at 35psi. Believe it or not it makes difference in gas mileage too. -

I went to the Ford dealer and drove a 13 Eco boost hold over, drove nice but they would only give me 28,000 on my silverado on trade and the GM dealer was willing to give me 35,000 and they still wanted as much for the 13 ford as the 14 GMC SLT so I went with a GMC. Some days I wish I went with the Ford but I just payed 41,000 for my silverado 10 months ago and couldn't swallow that much of a loss. -

[/quote my sierra does it at all times! Hills or not. Did they figure what the problem was with the silverado you had? No. I gave up on getting much help because I had an engineer come to the dealer and tell me my truck is fine, at the time the surging feeling while coasting wasn't doing it yet. I made one call to the dealer I bought the truck from (not the same dealer that was working with me on the vibration issue) and they offered me such a insane trade in value on a Sierra that I got stupid and bought another GM. In all honesty the Sierra is better, but far from perfect, now instead of a vibration I have a buzzing feeling in the floor and gas pedal that my Silverado didn't have. -

Any one notice their tires flat spotting after siting over night? My 2014 silverado did it with stock tires and the Dura Trac's I put on last fall (Dura Trac's on my 04 did it too). Now my Sierra I traded my Silverado off on does it too. After about 2 miles it's gone. -

I did on the Silverado I traded in, my GMC doesn't do it. I would let off the gas and after a few seconds of coasting and the speed dropped it would start to shake but it was almost more of a pulse or surge, like if I had warped rotors and was applying the brakes but I wasn't braking just coasting. It didn't do it until I got around 10,000 miles and didn't do it every time. On my way to work there is a stop light at the bottom of a hill and if I got a red light and kicked off the cruse and coasted down the hill it did it more then not. -

Could a guy take the rear driveshaft off and use 4 wheel drive to drive around to see if it's the rear diff? -

When I got back from my drive home from buying the truck my headlights looked just like wvridgeriders pic. Haven't driven it again with the headlights on yet but haven't seen any moisture since. I'm thinking it has something to do with the heat inside the light then the cool night air, acting like a dehumidifier. -

So I think my issues are solved. I have an outstanding dealer that I bought the truck from and I made a call and let them know how unhappy I was with the truck over all not just the vibration. Told him about my frame wax peeling and the frame rusting, seat wear and movement even after 3 trips for repair from my local dealer (not the dealer I bought it from). He asked if I wanted to trade it out and I told him I wouldn't touch another GM. They had a 13 f150 on the lot I was thinking if trading to so I wanted to see what my truck with 13000 miles was worth, I figured not much. The sales manager is a outstanding guy and gave me 35000,00 trade and I bought it for 40,300 10 months ago and they now have nicer equipped new trucks on the lot for 38,900.00 so felt good about my trade value, honestly I was expecting 29,000. I never even looked at the f150 but decided to buy a loaded SLT and so far, fingers and toes crossed it seems so much better. Ride is still a bit stiffer then I would like but it has the stiff Rancho shocks but somehow it doesn't seem as stiff, even being new as my silverado was. Vibration wise the spots that my truck always seemed to act up seemed smooth. I think these trucks have a different feel to them, I have drove total of 4 now, there so quiet that it feels like your in a very high end car so you feel like it it should ride like it's siting still but it's still a truck and the roads have imperfections. I'm not denying these trucks can have a vibration that's not normal and GM needs to find a fix them but as of now I think I've got a good one. -

So I put my truck on the lift at work today and removed the front skid plate, gas tank skid plate, and wraped a budgie around the evap canister and drove it home with high expedtions. No such luck, felt the same as always and possibly worse because I was concentrating on it. It really comes out while accelerating from around 35 to 45 but it always seems to have a slight vibration after that. -

Count me in for the rust! I've been playing with the air pressure in my tires to see if it makes a difference in the ride and vibration that I feel, and I was letting air out of the left rear tire and noticed my undercoating cracking and peeling with rust under it. Look under the truck and found more under the area of the rear door. I have spots of rust hear and there all over the frame and that's probably somewhat normal, more of a bleed through and my deaIer had my truck up on a hoist at least 3 times and where the pads touch the frame the wax came off and it's rusting. That suff Is going to happen to all the trucks but it should be peeling and cracking off in non wear areas. Checked the right side and so far it's ok but I bet it's just a matter of time. I'll try to get some pics up.

Thinking back on when this happened while hard accelerating I would call it a shudder rater then vibration. I know they technically mean the same thinking but if you had this happen to you you know what I'm talking about. -

I had this happen too. I thought it might be the traction control kicking in until one day the traction control kicked in on some sand and it was totally different. It was after this vibration that I starter to pay attention to the ride and noticed I had a vibration at other times too but not nearly as bad as when I floored it from a rolling start. -
