  1. I'm on my 5th muffler. Stock muffler Magnaflow 18" Magnaflow 14" Flowmaster 40 Flowmaster 10 Although it's still not loud enough for me, it does sound pretty good. (Turn it up and use headphones)
  2. Just installed Flowmaster Series 10 on '14 Silverado 5.3. Sounds pretty good.
  3. With all the money I've spent on Muff's, I could have had a nice set of LTH's!!! My Vette has Kook's long tubes, 3" exhaust and B&B Exhaust. The only thing louder is open headers. I can handle loud, just can't handle quiet.....
  4. I had the 22" Magnaflow on my '14 Silverado. It was the first mod. Complete waste of money. Sounded like a Prius. After that: 14" Magnaflow - not much louder Flowmaster 40 - a little better Flowmaster 10 - having it installed today. Can't stand a quiet V8. Just not right. EDIT: Just got back from the exhaust shop. He ordered the wrong muffler. I'll have to bump it to next week.
  5. Holy shit! That's what I'm talkin' about!
  6. If you can find a REALLY GOOD custom exhaust shop that specializes in trucks, they can actually put the truck up on the rack and prop up several different mufflers on rod that hold the mufflers in place while they are welding. That way you can hear it before you buy. I have talked to several guys who did this and were happy with the results. (It's what I should have done but I was in a big hurry to use the trial and error method $$$) (I have good advice but don't always use it myself)
  7. If you want it to sound like a Vette... HEADERS!
  8. I agree 100%. The THREE cats have plenty of restriction to kill any decent sound!
  9. No... my agreement with the shop is they keep the old muffler and I get a good price.
  10. OK, I have given the 14" Magnaflow it's last chance..... still sounds like a Prius to me. GONE. I have now installed the FOURTH muffler on my 2014 Silverado and it's almost loud enough. I finally went with the Original Flowmaster 40, no flapper valve, deleted 3rd cat. Sounds pretty good, but still pretty quiet for my taste. I guess the only way it's going to sound like a V8 should is long-tube headers. FYI: For many of you, the Flow 40 will be too loud... for me, it's not loud enough. The only time it sounds really good is with all the windows down and revving under a bridge. (I'll post a sound-clip in a couple days). Here's a cutaway pic... doesn't get much simpler that this:
  11. When JusTune did my dyno pull a couple weeks ago, I had a bad wire, so I replaced them with Taylor 10.4mm Wires, very low resistance. (Plug wire #1 looks like it's touching the header in the photo, but it's just the camera angle... about 1" clearance.)
  12. OK thanks... good info to know. That's a great price!
  13. I looked at the Amazon reviews. Although 4 stars with over 1000 customers, the negative reviews are of some concern. Flickering, failure after 2 months, overheating, etc. Any problems so far?
  14. Yeah, the factory cats are so restrictive and really muffle that great LS3 sound! Long tubes are the way to go!
  15. Technology is so much better now. I had the same problems with the headers on my Jeep Renegade back in the 70's. Now everything is digitally designed and formed for an exact fit, with metal gaskets and tight tolerances. A buddy of mine has had his Kooks Headers on for 4 years and they are perfect. I gained 18 RWHP with a performance tune. Was 496, now 514.
  16. Haha! Mine is still in the 70's! I've been wanting headers for the Vette for 5 years. I finally caught up with a great deal at www.marylandspeed.com. It was the Black Friday sale... 20% off, free ceramic coating, free shipping. Couldn't pass it up!
  17. We had a nice break in the weather for the last week... 60's in KC. So I had the new Kook's Longtubes installed on the Vette + tune. Dyno showed 514hp/530tq. Neck-snapping power. I like it.
  18. "JusTune" in Independence, MO. I had the Magnaflow shorty headers put on last winter, he did the tune and I netted 495 at the rear wheels. Hoping to go over 500 with the longtubes. His tunes are "lifetime". So if it accidently gets re-flashed, he will retune for free.
  19. Long-tubes will be installed on the Vette once we get some dry streets for installer/tuner. Not good driving on icy streets with super-wide street tires! Let the winter mods begin!
  20. I completely understand. It's because they don't have one!!! Some people don't like anything "new". I love it.
  21. Z8 is a Premium spray-on paint sealant. Much more paint protection than a typical detail spray, but not quite as much as a synthetic sealant that is applied with an applicator and then buffed off. Z8 is made by Zaino. I've been using it for over 15 years. It will make your paint shiny and slick. Spray on, wipe off, done. http://www.zainostore.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=Z&Product_Code=Z-8&Category_Code=shinemaintenance Detailing "Purists" (I should know, I used to be one) will tell you that you need to clay bar, polish, apply 2 coats of synthetic sealant, then apply Z8 for shine maintenance. I simply eliminated the first 3 steps. Mine looks as good as theirs and I saved 3 hours in the process.
  22. A nice day to put on a coat of Z8. It's the only product I ever use on all 3 vehicles. 15 minutes if you take a coffee break in the middle.
  23. Take it at an angle... no problem!
  24. Awesome! No frame twist. Don't try this with a FORD!
  25. I agree... the 22" chrome wheels get lots of looks. I like chrome also... but sometimes I go to the "Dark Side".
