Yeah the short distances really mean very little. Got to get a few tanks run through to get a good average. I do a lot of city driving stop and go and still kind of getting broken in so should get better. Next long highway run I will reset the trip meter and see if I can get around 30mpg I mean heck it is just a 6000lb behemoth shaped like a brick in the front it should get excellent mpg??? right?

6.2 8spd CC 4x4 I am seeing about the same mpg on this almost identically equipped 17 as I did my 16. Around 20.5 mpg average over 19,000 miles on the 16 and currently right at 21 mpg over 1500 miles on the 17. It really is mostly driving habits that produces the good mileage, I just like driving like a grandpa because I can. I know that if I wanted to I could burn over 90% of the vehicles on the road. I could probably take the OP's truck and wring out around 19 or 20mpg easily over several thousand (pretty boring) miles. So OP just drop it off with a credit card for fuel and I will run it a few week or months to see what we can get mpg.

I ran a Xtang trifold for many years it started out on my 2009 and made it onto my 2014 and then for a short time on my 2016. It was a signature canvas cover and it still looked great after 7 years. Sold it to an eager buyer for 150 bucks and put on the Peragon. Now using the FAC G3E on this 17 this is the best cover yet.

You have to pay attention a bit to get decent mileage. Limit remote starts/jack rabbit starts/hard braking applications and drive the speed limit with a steady foot on the accelerator and these things will get good mpg (for a 6000lb truck) I ride with a guy at work that is constantly speeding (zooming) right up on the car ahead like he is always in a huge hurry constantly accelerating hard and then almost immediately hitting the brakes. Complains that his truck gets mpg down in the low teens "Come On Man" funny part is he does not even seem to know he does this crazy stuff...... Over the 1st 1000 miles I am averaging 20.7 mpg so far it should get better as it gets broken in.

If a person had the 2 clamp brackets and the 4 clips readily available plus the extra bolts/nuts/washers/drill bit etc. already dug out and ready to go it would only take a few minutes to get one installed. I am not sure where you could get the clamp brackets and clips though? These extra pieces came from Peragon. I had some issues installing a new Peragon cover last year and they had sent me some extra hardware. Took me a while to find them but I knew they had to be somewhere in my cluttered up work shop LOL

OK the little BakBox2 that I ordered to go with my FAC G4E came in late yesterday. Was a real PITA to make it fit up (took a little bit of field engineering). If I had not had several extra bed cover rail clamps left over from when I did the Peragon cover last year I would not have gotten this done at all. (I got lucky on this one) Also I did have to notch the end rails at the top slightly to clear the FAC latch mechanism. I do like the fact that you have room to actually reach past the fairly narrow BakBox2 into the truck bed and retrieve items. It looks like on the FAC personal caddy that it fills in the entire panel space and you cannot access the truck bed at all when only the front panel is open just the personal caddy which could be an issue if you have stuff that has slide forward under the tool box......... I utilized the tiedown anchor point with a Peragon clip and 1/4" bolts/flat washers with nylon locking nut to hold the end closest to the cab of the truck. This is a difficult task as you have to carefully pre-assemble everything and mark the hole location to be drilled in the tool box end bracket to make this attachment and (must be precise). I used a Peragon rail clamp and clip to hold the tool box end piece at the back end of the toolbox, this was easy the parts just bolt right up. (just very lucky that had these laying around) When you mount the tool box end pieces be sure that the top of the pieces are slightly below the bottom of the FAC striker bolt, you will still have to notch the pieces to clear the FAC latch edges I took the existing notch 1" further towards the rear of the truck. Oh and the BakBox2 videos are a bit misleading the silly thing really does not fold all the way up. The front panel does fold down and makes a nice little shelf but it does not fold all the way back and stand straight up. It just falls back down into the shelf position with nothing to hold it because the front piece is folded into the bottom LOL If you look closely you will see whn used with a BakFlip cover it is mounted 8 or 10" back from the front of the bed (Wasted space) With the TriMode steps this is going to be perfect. Too bad the BakBox2 is such a Pain to make fit with a Fold-a-Cover G4 Elite, once done it is really pretty cool . If anyone wants to make an attempt they will need some rail clamps brackets and clips bolts etc. Good Luck Men here are some pics.

Fold-a-Cover G4 Elite is installed. BakBox2 tool box is ordered (234 bones) but has not arrived yet. I am hoping it will work with this Fold-a-Cover with some minor tweaking. The BakBox2 toolbox looks pretty awesome, it can fold up (when emptied out) towards the front of the bed and allow even more bed access if needed I still cannot believe Fold-a-Covers price ($589.00) for a plastic toolbox and it does not fold up out of the way LOL. I am not one to pinch pennies (obviously) but NOBODY likes to get taken advantage of on price no matter how much disposable income that you have................ Its the principal of the thang man.

Those addons have little to no value when doing a tradein at a dealer (they are raping you regardless) but to a private party buyer they can add value. I would get this thing cleaned up and advertise away and see what happens. What are you skeered of?

I wanted a Blue Truck. I really liked the 16 but red was not my color. Upgrade cost was negligible (sold old truck myself for a good price and got an awesome deal on the new one at Laura over 13k off sticker)

I recently traded in my 2016 1500 Denali 6.2 8 spd with 19,000 miles for a new 17 1500 Denali 6.2 8spd. 2016 8 spd had over 19,000 miles. pretty darn smooth, rarely if ever a harsh downshift just when slowing down a hill to a redlight to stop (one certain redlight in my little town) . Upshifts were always good. I was pretty pleased with the 8 spd on that one. 2017 8spd Hmmmm a little different, seems to have multiple harsh downshift episodes with some jerking motions "HOWEVER" I only have 900 miles on it so far so going to see if it is actually smart enough to "LEARN" anything over the next few thousand miles. It is for sure different from the 16 which is an identical truck except this 17 has a std bed and has 22's instead of 20" wheels. Not to concerned just yet. I will try to remember to post back in a few months with a update. 17 is purty though haha

Well shoot rackaddict82 run a few tanks of 93 octane and see if the noise goes away to test the "Infidels" theory. I never ran anything but 93 octane in my 16 for over 19,000 miles and plan on doing the same for this 17 for however many miles I keep it. No strange detonation noises except one time when I had a hand held programmer on it. I of course removed the tune immediately. Are you using a tuner/programmer? Oh and what kind of user name is rackaddict? Some people might get the wrong idea there!!!!

Probably need to add an extra wide body molding down the side to give the careless drivers something to bounce their door off of. Ordered a Fold-a-Cover G4 Elite on Friday $860.00 bucks to my door, directly from their website. I opted out of the storage toolbox since it was so expensive $589.00 adder for a little plastic tool box "Come On Man". Anyway I was curious if anyone had tried to fit a BAK2 toolbox into a Fold-a-Cover G4 Elite?? It looks like I could order one of those for $260.00 bucks and if it would fit I would have the perfect cover and toolbox to use with my TriMode side steps since the front panel opens independently of the back three panels to allow easy access to a tool box. I had a color matched Peragon on my 2016 but it was pretty leaky and you could not access the front unless you opened it completely. Color match was super sweet though.

Hate to resurrect such an old thread but I am interested in the fold-a cover G4 Elite and captfrank seems to have an issue. I just am not clear as to what he is doing drilling out pop rivets and why? Oh and if you tilt the drill bit angle a little the pop rivet will catch and you can drill it right out, drilled out about a million of them in my 38 year sheet metal career LOL

6.2 8spd gets consistently over 20 MPG for around 17,000 miles A lot of remote starts and probably 50% city driving, plus a LEAD FOOTED driver LOL.
