  1. GM's Borla system has the flapper valve
  2. The corvette engine is also different so that will explain some of it because anytime you change the efficiency of the Pump you will have to scale the source that feeds it...but you are right, it's not just the size but the Vette will have more of a direct path from filter to TB... For instance, pull up the calibrations for the 2004 CTSV and 2004 Z06 Vette, the only difference in the two is the intake path and exhaust, MAF calibrations are quite a bit different...
  3. Jon, Have you installed an intake and re calibrated your MAF yet? If so, what intake did you use and about what percent did it change and which way was it off?
  4. That's exactly what I keep saying.... HP/TQ is about 10% of a good tune on these trucks. You will get the most joy out of what is accomplished on tuning the transmission. You won't get any quality transmission tuning out of a canned tune either... I cant stress enough to go custom. Any guys here in the Tulsa area that have gone canned tune already, come drive my truck and see how quick your Hypertech/Bully Dog goes on Craig's list.
  5. it should be covered under warranty...
  6. This is a totally different valve that what the Vettes use. This valve has spring resistance and is forced open by exhaust flow alone. Just cut it out or use something to hold the valve open like the op did with a hose clamp, tac weld, a fireproof midget holding the valve open himself, it's a real easy mod.
  7. They do some really nice work there.... I wish they could have done a couple of them with X-Pipes up as close to the engine as possible... Even though it is a single muffler system, it makes a big difference in the burble sound you get with a true dual system like they are building. Some like the burble, some don't. I have never been a fan of the LSx exhaust note.
  8. Funny stuff right there, I hope there is no patent on that saying because I'm gonna use it at least once or twice. This is why I push that we only replace the intake tube to the factory box because nothing is more disturbing to me than the sound of drowning Wookies, I mean, what are you gonna do, you can't save them because they will just claw and scratch and just take you down with them...
  9. Can you use the intake tube to go straight to factory air box...
  10. First... Why would it vibrate under WOT? Do you know what's causing that? Keep us posted on any real world gains.
  11. I just checked it out with excitement and noticed that it looks like it's metal of some sort. The metal intake tubes tend to heat soak quite a bit so I tend to steer away from them if I can find a plastic one. I can tig up some nipples on an aluminum tube and buy rubber boots all for under $100 but haven't went that route because I want plastic. Good find though...
  12. This is crap... Now it's all jumbled up and hard to follow.
  13. TJay.... Can you verify something for me because I am the only one that seemed to have this problem because nobody else is reporting it. Now I fixed mine before driving but it could be the noise you are hearing. You won't be able to see it without a small mirror or you will have to take a picture which is what I did using my phone. Crawl underneath your truck and just above your spring where it bolts to the drop shackle, see how close that bed seam comes to the spring. I was touching on one side and only had 1/16" on the other... Yours is a 4x4 and mine is 2wd so it may be different but if you are hitting the bed seam it would certainly be your issue.
  14. Yeah... That cracks me up I was driving down the road when I read your post and totally missed the sarcasm. Lol
  15. Lol... I like the part where that Tahoe added 4k miles to the odometer in a couple hours time. I have posted real data on here... now it's up to you guys if you want to take the time to read it. I do appreciate your optimism ... I have spent thousands of hours on a Dyno and have NEVER seen a car produce numbers anywhere near what K&N claim and have also seen the effects of oil type gauze filters which I steer clear of. I also don't need an open element box when stock flows just as good, has cooler IAT's which means you can add more timing for more power and is quieter. There is nothing attractive about K&N to me unless they fab me a MIT
  16. Ok.... I replied to Mark Fowler with Airaid's email, telling him what my current plans are as far as using the MIT from the 2013 and just modifying the PCV connection points. He actually replied back with concern over doing that since they have done 0 testing on it. This really surprised me as most people/companies only see $$$$. Here is his response.... Steve I understand that there are a few people that have adapted the earlier tube onto the 2014 and while they may have been able to install it that does not mean it will work properly. Extensive testing needs to be done with a part like this to ensure that the long term fuel trims are good and that the air flow over the MAF sensor remains within the OE parameters to avoid any potential damage or runability issues. Mark Fowler Lead - CSR AIRAID Filter Company 2688 E Rose Garden Lane Phoenix, AZ. 85050 P. 602-652-9727 F. 602-652-9827 And of course my resonse... Mark, Since I am a tuner I will know within minutes the effect that it has on the factory calibration. I'm hoping that it does effect air flow enough, in a positive manner, to require adjustment to the MAF transfer calibrations and/or volumetric efficiency which will not be an issue since I am able to adjust accordingly. I will be able to log it's effect and will report back to you with the percentage of airflow changed across the MAF's effective range on the new DI 5.3. With the design of this huge factory intake muffler/baffle system, I can't see it being anything other than an improvement. I do appreciate the warning and your genuine concern for my investment over the monetary gain that could be had by your company. That goes a long way with me. Steve TDT Custom Tuning (918)804-2949
  17. For those of you looking for an Airaid MIT kit on these new trucks, I suggest that you contact them to help get the ball rolling. This is the response that I got from them today after emailing them last night. Steve At this time we do not have a MIT in the works for the new 2014 GM trucks however I have noted your inquiry on our lost sales file which our R&D department and new products committee refer to when looking for new products develop. While I cannot make any promised I will keep your email on file and will follow up with you if I hear that we are working on one. Sorry we could not be more help with your search at this time and please feel free to get back in touch with me if you have any additional questions. 18. I think that may be a little added rotational weight to keep the valve a little more steady when being pulsed by the exhaust, I could be wrong though because the red color kind of throws me off.
  19. Excellent info for everyone in this thread
  20. That would be a good start... The flapper can easily be manipulated with your fingers, any more resistance than that and I would lean towards that as the culprit.
  21. Odd, I wonder if the flapper valve in your exhaust is stuck open?
  22. I'm assuming you have a 2014, if so... I wouldn't think you would have any noise or shudder whatsoever. I had absolutely no noticeable change confirming the change between V4/V8 besides the little icon on the dash. Mine is a 2014 crew 2wd w/5.3
  23. Same here, I have the tungsten metallic and I get brown, purple and black depending on time of day and lighting. Love the Brownstone Metallic!
  24. What he said is definitely misleading and its possible he may not have meant it, but its also possible that this gentlemen is not a gear head like we are and is more subject to the placebo effect than most. Just to clear up this claim that was previously stated about the Range Tech Module making tons of power, this is not true and is not what the manufacture has intended or claims... unless they have a new version out that comes with a 15lb blue bottle, solenoids, some nozzles and a wide open throttle switch.
