A basic Chevy Silverado starts with a towing capacity of about 5,600 pounds. A V8 Silverado starts at about 6,700 pounds towing capability. The out-going Toyota Tacoma (Mid-size) V6 pickup can tow about 6,500 pounds. In light of these comparisons, is the new Colorado diesel impressive or not to you? -

This is all part of a huge settlement FCA US is making with NHTSA over 11 recalls covering 23 million vehicles. Included is a $105 million dollar fine. NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind commented, saying “Fiat Chrysler’s pattern of poor performance put millions of its customers, and the driving public, at risk. This action will provide relief to owners of defective vehicles, will help improve recall performance throughout the auto industry, and gives Fiat Chrysler the opportunity to embrace a proactive safety culture.” If you own a Jeep or Ram vehicle and want to see if it is covered, please click here. The blacked-out bow tie is already offered on the 2015 Silverado Black-out and Midnight. It seems like a no-brainer that the gold-illuminated Chevy bow-tie might migrate to the Silverado. What do you say? Thumbs-up or thumbs-down on this idea? Source of the Camaro Bow-tie story. -
John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 7/24/2015 In an earlier report, we detailed how the Justice Department might charge GM and some of its executives with a crime over the ignition recall issue. The latest news is that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is looking to GM's activities. One part of the issue is not clear is if the dealers are the target of the probe, GMN, or both. The Detroit News reports that GM responded to the FTC June 3rd. The FTC has confirmed the investigation but would not elaborate. General Motors' conduct after the defect was fund is the underlying issue. To date, the number of people killed or injured from the defective switches is about 400. The recall affected millions of vehicles, but the real issue is the possible cover up of the defect. As of this date the compensation fund set up to compensated those killed has approved 126 requests.

John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 7/24/2015 The J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study is based on a survey of over 84,000 vehicle owners. It is a gauge of how gratifying a vehicle is to own and drive. In this 20th anniversary study, J.D. Power found that the Chevy Colorado is the highest ranked mid-size truck and the Sierra HD is the highest ranked Large, heavy-duty pickup. In the Large light-duty truck category the Ford F-150 took first, the Ram 1500 second, and the Sierra third place. Survey respondents had no love for the Silverado. CBS Detroit says that the positive results were due to new product sales and the heavy percentage of sales form trucks, which are more profitable than cars. -
According to an Autoblog report today, GM has patented a cloud based system that would allow a user to be recognized by any of its vehicles. The vehicle would then adapt immediately to the setting that driver prefers. GM didn't just figure out one way it could be done either. Instead the company listed multiple ways this could be done. Regardless of the recognition technology all of this is reliant on the new connected car technology and WiFi GM is rolling out. GM says its truck users are the most tech savvy of its vehicle owners. -
After more than one year since the fund was started the total is not expected to rise much further. In 2014 General Motors recalled 26,766,833 vehicles. That was roughly four times more than Toyota and six times more than Ford. Given that huge number one would assume that the GM recall was the largest ever, but it was not. According to Car and Driver, the largest recall in history was 21 million vehicles made by Ford and its affiliates to affix a parking brake sticker. -

Steep discounts on trucks, or any vehicle for that matter, in the middle or near the end of their design cycle is commonplace. However, a five-digit discount on a brand new vehicle is unusual to say the least. Ford's aluminum trucks were expected to scare the folks at GM and Ram, and maybe even Toyota, who likes to keep its sales low. Nobody seems very worried anymore. Ford's discounting may in part be caused by GM's own deep discounts. As we recently reported GM has been offering up to $8,500 on some trucks. Ford says that its incentives are lower than this time last year and that its $44,100 average transaction price is the highest in the industry. -
Also, General Motors has updated its ordering book for dealers. This means that orders will soon be accepted at dealerships and that inventory will begin to arrive soon. One thing we noted in the information available is that all the wheels for the new Camaros are aluminum - no steel wheels with covers like on some past base models. -

Chevy's U.S. vice president, Brian Sweeney, presented the truck to Trout saying “Mike’s on-field performance was All-Star caliber and worthy of one of Chevrolet’s All-Stars. Chevrolet also encourages future All-Stars through our more than 1,500 dealers who support Chevy Youth Baseball.” Chevrolet has been the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball® since 2005. Until recently, GM also sponsored the National Football League, but has passed that along to Hyundai. -
UAW President Dennis Williams' focus is on newer UAW members. In prior negotiations the union agreed to let GM cap newer workers' pay well below the top earnings of older, longer serving union members. Williams commented on those workers, saying, "Some of them are not part of the middle class like they should be." In its reporting on the talks, US News & World Report said that GM and Ford want to reduce labor costs, which are about $9.00 higher per hour of labor than Toyota and Honda pay to non-union workers in nearby states. By contrast, the UAW wants to increase pay, which has essentially been unchanged since 2005, following agreements made around the time that General Motors went through bankruptcy. -
When asked by a network news anchor about the protests surrounding his refusal, Kid Rock reportedly responded "Please tell the people protesting that they can kiss my ....," according to the Detroit Free Press. GM for its part is backing Kid Rock. Saying in a statement "We are committed to our sponsorship of Kid Rock's summer tour and are confident that he will provide his fans, many of whom are proud Chevrolet owners, with a spectacular concert experience that celebrates American Freedom." GM Trucks scanned three years of images on the Kid Rock Facebook page today. There are no visible Confederate flag images shown. Chevy also plans to continue to offer more 8-speed automatic transmissions and to continue to add active safety systems to the Silverado line. Finally, as announced earlier, the new Silverado for 2016 will have available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through its updated MyLink infotainment system. Chevy has promised more details soon and we will bring them to you as they roll out. -
"General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 Buick Enclave vehicles manufactured January 3, 2007, to February 29, 2012, 2009-2012 Chevrolet Traverse vehicles manufactured July 6, 2008, to February 29, 2012, 2007-2012 GMC Acadia vehicles manufactured September 15, 2006, to February 29, 2012, and 2007-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles manufactured August 17, 2006, to March 18, 2010. The affected vehicles, equipped with the power liftgate option, have gas struts that hold the power liftgate up when open. These struts may prematurely wear and the open liftgate may suddenly fall." Used the Sierra pic because the GMC brand was number one in the survey and the logo is prominent in the image. And I wouldn't know a K900 if it ran over my foot. Probably should have used a Canyon.

My apologies for trying to spice up a recall notice story. Reports this morning are that about 200,000 Hummers are being recalled by GM for issues related to vehicle fires. In three cases the vehicles were destroyed by fires and in two of those cases passengers suffered burns as a result, which is no laughing matter. The Hummer brand was dead by 2008 and after a failed sale GM abandoned the no longer PC sport utes. It is probably unrelated, but my next door neighbor's Hummer was towed away on a flatbed truck last night. For information on recalls related to GM products visit this website. -

The Toyota/Lexus domination and Acura/Honda runner up headlines no longer apply. In the newest such survey, the Customer Satisfaction Survey by Autopacifica, GMC was the top popular brand, meaning mainstream brand. GM also had the most model category wins with five. Kia and Nissan followed with four and three. The GM vehicles that won their categories were: - Chevrolet Corvette - Sports Car - GMC Canyon - Compact Pickup - Chevrolet Tahoe - Large SUV - Buick Enclave - Luxury Large Crossover - GMC Acadia - Large Crossover The overall model winner was the Kia K900. We're sure both owners are just tickled pink. The Autopacifica Survey asked 66,000 owners of 2015 vehicles to rate their satisfaction. Unlike editor's choice awards, these rankings are based on how actual owners answer questions about vehicles they own. Not to be a spoiler, but the Ford F-150 took the other truck categories in case you were wondering.
