  1. Every time I wash the truck. I hated trying to clean the fixed steps brackets behind the steps. Couldn't get my hand between the step and rocker panel. So I had to reach around from underneath. Worked with a local company. They made these block out panels from a pvc panel with a aluminum core and then wrapped them in black. The front bracket doesn't get dirty due to my mud flaps. The middle and back brackets always got the dirt/mud.
  2. Wasn't sure if there been a upgrade by now or not. I've driven a couple of rental cars now with the adaptive cruise. Finally figured how to manage with it to my liking. It's amazing tractor trailers have it, but GM didn't put it on on my 2500.
  3. Can a dealer upgrade the software on a 2021 GMC 2500HD Gas to active Adaptive Cruise?
  4. Yep these trucks are tall. I had 2004 GMC 2500 4x4. I carried a step to get in the bed a little easier when camping. Great I order a truck with the multi-pro tailgate and thinking I no longer need to carry step. Wrong! Now I need the step just to check the oil.
  5. I have 2021 GMC 6.6 Gas and mine is always a tick over 210 (not 220). I thought it was high, but the dealer said it was normal and a few others on here.
  6. It is large for sure. Got the multi-pro tailgate and thought wow I won't need to carry my step stool I use on my 04 2500HD. Wrong! Now I need the stool just to check the engine oil while camping! You'd think they would have put a longer dipstick and tube so you can reach the damn thing like they do on class 8 trucks.
  7. Yep, I'm impressed and sold with this 6.6 gas. Tow a 35' TT weighing about 9500 with all the extras. Had a LLY Duramax and could top out on Fancy Gap in SW Va. about 67 mph. This gas, what a HOSS! Slowed to 60 for a truck in the third lane (no trucks) about halfway up and still topped out at 75 mph! Glad the wife wasn't along for this test!!!!
  8. I know GM recommends Top Tier Gas for our direct injection engines. Is it a must or marketing to support the big oil companies? Do you run Top Tier 100%? Anyone running non top tier with high mileage? I bought my truck before thinking of a friend of mine with a VW DI. He had to periodically get the valves cleaned. It was a couple of years ago though and things change.
  9. Thanks for the replies. Seems to be the new norm then.
  10. My normal temp gauge reading is running a tick over 210. I'm not towing anything yet and it's only 60-70 degree ambient temps. Also my volt gauge reads 15 -16 volts most of the time. This seems high for a 12 volt system? 13.6 - 14 would seem normal. I realize the truck has a intelligent alternator and will reduce the volts to around 12 volts on trips for fuel economy . Dealer is saying both are normal? What is everyone else seeing? Thanks
  11. I'm one those loyal GM guys with a little different story. Had 2004 GMC LLY diesel and loved it! At 17 years old (I keep them awhile), I was starting to see the writing on the wall for me personally. Replaced Turbo last summer $3500 and then the tranny went into limp mode twice on the same camping trip going and coming home. It was time. Tranny would have been ~ $8000, Injectors were never replaced and are normally good for about 150k to 200k = ~$5000. Went back to gas this time. My old LLY was 310hp / 528 ft lb torque. This gas is 401hp and 464 ft lb torque. My old camper weighs 8500 dry - new campers like it are now 6900 lbs. Things to consider - 1. We use the camper about once a month locally 50-100 miles and one or two trips in the summer 1000- 2500 miles each. 2. $10k more for a diesel 3. diesel is about $.25/.$30 more than gas. 3. DEF costs. 4. Maintenance/repair costs 5. Aftertreatment systems, I work in the heavy duty class 8 truck business and have seen what these systems cost our company and customers. Haven't tow yet but looking forward to the first trip with the camper in April. Just my 2 cents.
  12. The factory plastic extensions are a waste. Drove home from the dealer with my new truck there was some mud on the road. I had mud up on the side and even on the rear bumper. Installed Husky Liners' 12inch universal mud flaps in front the factory extensions.
  13. Yep, I confirm it's 3.5" exhaust too. Just picked my truck up a week ago. Had to order an stainless steel exhaust tip for it.
  14. @leverett.scott Thanks! I ordered the truck without see the color on a truck or car. The closest one was 400 miles away. Brownstone isn't available on the Denali either. So I ordered the SLT pretty much loaded with the big chrome bumper. I'm a little old school and love my chrome! @fly53usmc The interior is Walnut and Slate. I did find a 1500 with this interior before ordering and it looks pretty good with the brownstone. My wife couldn't get over people stopping in the dealers lot when we were picking it up. They wanted to know the color and wanted to buy it. I told the salemen put $10k in my pocket and it's for sale. LOL! Came out of the saleman's office and some guy was taking pictures of the truck. Made me feel pretty good with my choices.
  15. Picked up my Brownstone SLT 2500 HD Gas last weekend. Love it! It was worth the wait since 11/5 Wow these trucks are big! Had to stand on a milk crate just to check the oil LOL!
  16. Yep, I'm part of the Waiting Club too. Ordered a SLT Gas with the dealer 11/5. Truck was built week of 12/7. 12/11 has a VIN. 1/8 still sitting in the Ravendale, Mi Rail Yard for the train to Winston-Salem. Like mentioned earlier the dealer is no help. Called dealer for a status 12/23. Said he'd call me back. 1/14 still waiting for his call. Unbelievable on a $70k truck when I laid ALL the specs out for the order from the website and can't call me back. The GMC Chat has been my source. Check once a week. Not like I really need the truck, but with virus. It's something I'm looking forward to. Last GMC LLY is now 17 years old, so it's been awhile for a new truck.
  17. Ordered my GMC on 11/9 and was built week of 12/7. Like you the dealer isn't much help. The dealer did advise it does have a VIN now. Call and talk to him last Wednesday on where it is during transit. He said, he check and let me know. Still no return call for a week. I got more information on the GMC website "chat". You might want to give it a try. I was hoping for this month's employee pricing incentive, but it isn't looking good.
  18. Thanks Maynard and Dunn. I appreciate the intel. I negotiated elimination of the so called "DOC" fee and a lesser freight cost.
  19. Any thoughts? I order my truck with "Supplier" pricing through my work. It amounted to $6049 off of MSRP. The truck is due in this week or next. Even with Supplier pricing I'm eligible for any incentives offered at delivery. According to my order form there is another level "GMS" that is another $2324.63 less than Supplier level. What is "GMS" level? Is the current "Employee" Pricing better than "Supplier" Pricing? Trying to decide if the truck does come in this week to seal the deal with the Employee pricing or wait for January incentives.
  20. Thanks for the responses. I guess an old dog learned something today. My 04 GMC 2500HD had 5 - 16" wheels.
  21. Just ordered 2021 GMC SLT 6.6 Gas last week with 20" wheels. The order form only lists 17" or 18" spare tire options. This is not good for a 4WD and a limited slip rear when the spare is needed, no matter how far the drive is. The salesman just shrugged his shoulders when I asked. Anyone have a truck that came with factory 20" wheels and got a 20" spare instead of a 17" or 18"?
