Ouch, didn't see that. I'll have to stop posting late at night after a lot of drinks.. I always wish people would respond with outcome. -

Awesome! Congratulations! My friend was a long time Ford fan. I just convinced him to buy a trail boss. I discovered that Ford owners get a $6500 GM referral incentive to buy GM. I got GM employee discount from brother in law. Ford owner discount is just as good. I almost got the diesel, but felt sick standing beside it as I talked with salesperson. Definitely built up intolerance from working on and beside diesels all day. Enjoy you're new ride! -
Starter Bad after Car Wash
Mike Duhaime replied to Tanya's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Sorry to hear about this! You have no crank right...no noise...just nothing? That starter gets power from a relay, before that computer..all fuses. It could be something as simple as the negative cable to frame. I've seen it all as an auto, truck and construction equipment tech. When the truck is towed, they twist the frame and may cause bad connection to work again. We just don't know if 12 volts made it to solenoid of starter. Sad thing is, it must fail to test. In some really hard cases, we added a jumper wire to the starter solenoid. If you got stuck and had no crank, you simply touched the positive of battery and starter worked....if it was relay or wiring, computer. As long as starter was good, it cranked with jumper. The tech at garage needs to do this and park truck. spray water all over and test... Please let us know how you make out with this.. -
Starter Bad after Car Wash
Mike Duhaime replied to Tanya's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Any vehicle has that strategy. Foot to floor, computer cuts fuel....but it cranks. This lady has no crank, different issue -
Were talking brand new here, not POS 20 year old trucks. New. You're not the f ing authority on anything

My insurance agent told me that all her claims were for Ford, Dodge and Jeep. My son is a police officer, and mentioned it's always new Ford pickups getting stolen, then Honda CRV because they are easy to steal! . I'm in an area close to shipyards, where thieves take the vehicles right to containers. All going to Italy, then Africa. New GM trucks are not on the hot list of stolen vehicles. ON STAR definitely makes it risky.

I was going diesel for sure. I drove a GM work truck for 5 years and loved the range of the diesel. But, diesel went way up in price. It will stay there as refinery costs are way up to produce diesel a lot more cleaner. Emissions. Then, DEF fluid costs and now disabling issues from failed DEF.50/50 chance of being stranded on road because of emission failure. On all brands, all diesels! I worked on construction equipment. Cat, Cummins, even our Hyundai lifts were failing because of DEF issues. Now, gas engines are approaching diesel in fuel economy....not equal, but getting close. Then, the fuel filter must be changed once a year on diesels. $$$$ with added cost of diesel engine, rising fuel costs, maintenance costs, noise, lack of acceleration, Gas is better now. If that doesn't convince you, how about the raw throaty sound of that V8 gas on accel? Compared to a rattling diesel? and last but not least, the SMELL! It does get into cab. If running outside your house, you smell it inside. DEF makes it worse. I've got the 5.3 and love the sound and acceleration. Please consider this! -
I'm tapping into the starter wire, hidden switch. Then getting a fake OBD2 connector and shorting 12 volt wire to ground, in hopes of shorting out a thief's scanner. Always back into parking spot, ebrake on to make towing more difficult. Adding an alarm to go off if towed...jacked up on angle. The My chev app can email or text each time the truck starts...that shoild be a standard thing...as we would know the second it starts. My crappy Kia had that! These car makers have to protect us better. If you didn't do anything to your truck, and find yourself leaving it at an unsafe place...you can simply pull the ECM relay out from under hood. No one can start your truck and it will be where you left it. Costs nothing
-
My Chev app can tell you when the truck starts. It should be standard that we get a text or email anytime the truck leaves or is started. I'm going yo install a dummy OBD2 plug, and relocate the OEM one. Dealer will have note on file that OBD2 plug is in a hidden location. A kill switch to starter relay (will lose remote start) Make sure to back in parking spot with ebrake on. So hard to believe these vehicles are getting stolen so easy!

Driver's seat leaning to the left?
Mike Duhaime replied to Jgardow92's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
I was going to post the same issue. It's not right. and getting uncomfortable. My hernia is bothering me because the seat is lower on left. I actually installed a seat cover with extra padding on left to straighten me out. I've got the 2022.5 refresh 1500 LT crew cab. It's going to take measurements and pics to show dealer. I feel like i'm sliding towards door as well. -
On Amazon. I got the Wolfbox 900 you don't need to wire into reverse light . The cam is always on. I have a kill switch to cut all power if left on one week at airport.

Solar panel and front Cam

Clip on type roof rack from ebay was counterfeit. Fell off if you whacked it. GM one is very similar and clips on. Gave up and got bed rack instead from Amazon. -
exhaust smell when reversing
Mike Duhaime replied to briansol's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Enclosed area. Any just started engine has no pollution controls. Even if warm from before. Cat must be 600 degrees before it controls the fumes. Ever notice any vehicle that passes you on highway smells like hell? Floor it and no pollution controls, or Cat 'cleans" itself and expels stinky crap. You have a few years on this engine, drive the piss out of it when hot, and no cops around! You probably have buildup in Cat -
A cat only plugs from misfires. If you have that all sorted out, then change cat. There are expert welders that can change your cat, weld it in place. it's often done, you just have to locate good muffler fabricators

Block Heater Problem - 2020 Sierra 1500
Mike Duhaime replied to NorthernX31's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
#1 issues is wire breakage at plug, you know, where it's yanked on instead of using 2 hands to separate. Get a volt/ohmeter. Simply put leads on plug end. There should be continuity, and about 5 -15 ohms indicating the plug is on the block heater and there is a circuit. Block heater cords are available at Napa. In a pinch, a magnetic block heater will work...just put on outside side of block. Replacing the block heater is a garage job for sure -
It is free with APP for 5 years!!! It's my third GM in 12 years, never paid a cent. You do not have to pay anything...although they try to sell the hell out of On Star, the APP is free. GM sales people rarely ever mentioned the free APP. My 2022 Silverado is now unlimited car start. Download the APP, push On star button and they set up pin code....and try to sell On star, wifi, yadda yadda. I have met a few friends in the last 3 years that didn't know they had free Remote with phone. They locked keys in vehicle. I got them to download APP, then call GM. They got their car unlocked and were amazed they has it 3 years and didn't know about it!!

Here are some pics, video won’t load it can zoom down to see something this close, or pan up with a swipe of your finger the drill is very low! pretty easy to install. Parts fit under the Onstar plastic housing at rear view mirror

I didn't get the brake controller. Picked up 22.5 Silverado off the lot as equipped cause it took 4-6 months to order. Barely any GM trucks on lots here in Ontario. I just popped in my Curt Echo Bluetooth brake controller. It works off my phone. Plug and play, swap vehicles and take it with you. It just uses the 12 volt supply from hitch plug...owes nothing to the vehicle you drive. Just need 12 volt power supply (mine was there already). I used it on last trailer with no issues.
-
Not yet, can post tomorrow maybe. Check out Cam on Amazon. I glued mine into place under front bumper, below license plate. It is clear, touch screen, swipe to change views. It's meant to be a rear view Cam...but we have that already. I like hoe it pans up and down with a swipe of your finger

2022 Refresh Radio Preset Shuffle
Mike Duhaime replied to Truck RamRod's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Mine is changing too. But do you have the annoying GOOGLE sign in issue? It stopped working, called tech support...nada. Now you can't sign in, on phone or screen. But the annoying prompt to "sign in" keeps popping up, and wont let you sign in. "There was a problem connecting with Google servers, try again later" Updated Google app, 1 gig data shows on display, re set display 20 times holing Home button, left door open 10 minutes like they said. I wish GM would delete this useless App and icons. We have car play, that's all we need. We have cheap data plans on our phones thast cost a fraction of OnStar. This Google is just too much, interferes with all Car play. I think GM is working on a fix for these entertainment systems. -
Hi Randall I searched this and then asked this question. Short posts and trailer hitches sticking out are impossible to see. OEM Cam is too complicated and expensive. Finally. I got one off Amazon at a decent price. Wolfbox G900 for under @200 US. I installed it under the license plate holder. Drilled a hole to fit it. Barely noticeable. This Display clips over the rearview mirror and is very clear. Cool thing about this is you can have a split screen with ground view and forward as it's a dash cam too. It also toggles up and down with a swipe of your finger. Easy to install. Just one wire through firewall to cam, from rear view mirror. Then power cable from Acc plug to display. I was quoted $600 US to have it professionally installed. I can see the paint markings on the ground now, and have a dash cam recording in case we get cut off and ditch.

Solar panel and front Cam
Mike Duhaime replied to Mike Duhaime's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Yes, Minnesota gets exactly the crappy cold weather we get here south of Ottawa. We're ok the first year, but 2-3 years and that battery is toast. My refresh has that huge display, that does a light show on start up. Do you notice the heater vents closing a few minutes after shut down? What the heck is that for? At minus 30, those doors have to swing open and closed. They can snap from being frozen. Happens in Dodge...thousands to replace those vent doors!
