I had just finished installing my cam and put everything back together but as soon as I go to turn on the truck it won’t turn on it just cranks and a lot of smoke starts coming out of the engine. At first i thought it was some oil that had spilled on the headers or on the block. But i don’t know what to do please help

My trucks going in for open heart surgery in a month. DOD delete, tsp stage 2 L83/5.3 cam in my L86/6.2. I eventually would love to put a blower on it. I drive the truck frequently and don’t want to do too big of a cam where I’ll have to change my torque converter. Will I get away with a L83 stage 3 cam with my stock converter or should I stick to the stage 2. Specs are 5.3L Stage 2 Camshaft w/ +32% Fuel Lobe: 218/226, 635", 113 LSA, 109 ICL All my mods will be intake, portable TB, (hopefully have my heads ported when it goes in for dod delete and cam) LT4 injectors, 1-7/8 long tube hears, off-road y-pipe. I’ll have a 3.5” electric cut out followed by stock exhaust for now. Trucks reverse level and blocks removed. 22x12 -51 285/35r22 no trimming or cutting

So this week I brought my truck into the dealership because of a ticking and squealing sound mostly when the engine was cold. After touching base with the service advisor the following day he notified me that the truck needs lifters and a cam. Parts have been ordered (5-7 days) and they will be doing the repair under warranty. The truck only has 69,000km (5.3L) and it doesn't take a beating. I get 13L/100km mileage. Thankfully the truck is still under warranty (5 year/160,000km), but I find it odd that the cam shaft needs to be replaced on the truck at this point. Anyone else dealt with a similar issue at this stage in their trucks life?

I have a 07 (Classic) 2500hd lq4 and I have been looking at some turbo set ups and kits for a while now. I have some questions though. I like this kit alot https://www.speed-engineering.com/ls-turbo-parts/twin-turbo-kits/silverado-sierra/silverado-sierra-twin-turbo-kit-1999-06-4-8l-5-3l-6-0l.html - They stated a 224 cam gave them 495rwhp. Can I throw in a ls3, ls6, or ls9 cam in to expect similar gains or would it be major loss? - After cam where are we with fuel? What kind of fuel rails should I run and from where? - I understand the truck intake is good, but what is a better option? -What heads should I run? I keep seeing 243 heads are a good idea considering my dished pistons. - I know a torque converter will meed to come in at some point. What do yall suggest? - Anything else I should buy or pay attention to? My truck is my DD and I can run e85 when the time comes. I am looking for some low end torque rather than hp. Thanks

New to this whole forum thing so let's just get down to business. I have a 2015 Silverado 1500 with the L83 5.3L currently I have an Edelbrock E-Force 2300 stage 1 supercharger and Borla atak cat back exhaust. I have been researching all over and for the right camshaft size for my application (1/4 mile/street) and haven't really gotten anywhere. what Camshafts are performing well in these SIDI engines with superchargers? I'm aware that I would need stronger valves, springs, and most likely rods, I've heard great things from Texas speed and Comp Cams but I am not partial to either. once I do the Camswap I will also be looking into a smaller pulley and new injectors which I will also need feedback for. I'm currently running the SCT tune that came with the kit from Edelbrock but I'm sure it will not be adequate once I put in the new cams, smaller pulley, and injectors. ANY INPUT WILL HELP!!!!

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 2wd ext cab with 134,000 miles on it. My buddy has a corvette that he just put a cam in, thus he has his stock cam. Would I be safe to put this cam in my truck without a tune? I want to put headers and some other mods on it before I get the tune, so it would be a month or two before I got it.

Hello everyone, New to the forum. I got some mods im doing to my truck and since this is a forum i try to regularly keep up with, figured i would go ahead and join and ask some questions since i have found little in depth topics on this subject. So. Got a 2002 2500HD 6.0 crew cab, 2x4. Already have the engine and tranny both out. Heres what im doing. Comp cam mutha thumper cam, timing set, headers, air intake, throttle body spacer, new rings, surface the heads, maybe port n polish. Exhaust, and a programmer. Doing all the work myself. Was wondering if anyone else has done this similar combo? If so what brands/results? Should my stock converter be able to hold that cam. It says its best with a 2500+ stall. Whats the stall speed on these stock hd trannys? Should i go ahead and invest in a set of push rods/rockers/springs? Ive been told as long as i dont go with a HUGE cam the stock ones should be fine. The engine only has 130,000 on it, so the internals are in great shape. I do haul/tow with this truck. Farm equipment tractors bobcats etc. So i still want towing power. Any advice at all will be very much appreciated. I know my way around a SB chevy pretty good. But theres ALOT of ppl out here that know alot more. So anything helps. Thanks guys

Looking to cam my 6.2 V8 Silverado. Which is the best cam to go with? I know its a very broad question but what I'm looking for is all the power (mainly mid/high range) while keeping the noise to a minimum at idle (I know ironic, sorry ). The truck is already loud enough so I would like it to somewhat stay the same at idle without all the loud hectic looping. Also would like to know what the chances are of me busting anything after the cam swap. If y'all could share the experiences with different cam swaps and how y'all like them that'd be great. Cheers

Hey guys. I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado EcoTec3 5.3L Regular Cab and I want to build it to run decent track times. Decent meaning at least 11's. I don't really know much about the 5.3L and I would really like help on what should be done to run times like that. What cam? Intake? TB? Head swap maybe? Will even consider Turbos, supercharger, or a procharger. Also rear gears, will tranny hold up at the torque needed? Can I do this without messing with the bottom end at all? I'm open to anything and everything. The truck will not be driven on the street very much, I work 100+ hrs/wk but I'd find time to take it to the track. Thank you.

normaly i read other peoples stories and pick up a bit here and there but this time its important, and alot of you guys seem pretty knowledgable , my intake leaked like a steam pot and ive had to move the truck a few times and ran it till the tempature rose almost to high . had to jump start it a couple of times and now it seems like the timing is weird before starting it turns fast then slow then fast and so on until it starts , id like to just replace the motor , it has over 250000 miles but money is funny, so im gonna have to do it piece by piece,,,,, i need advice , tips , who makes the best rebuild kits , what upgrades can i do, any and all help would b hot ,,,, the familys work horse needs help . i thank you very much now give me your brains lol

Hey guys I joined this forum because I need some gear head advice on some engine work I am considering doing on my truck. I really want to cam it. I have an 06 sierra 1500 5.3 z71 on 35's with 3.73 gears. I would like an aggressive cam but I still want it street friendly and pretty mean, I was thinking a 224 or so. If anyone has advice it would be great. Thanks!!

Hey guys. I just bought a 2014 Silverado Reg Cab with the 5.3L last week. Pretty excited about it. Already seems to be a pretty fun truck. I also have a 2006 Silverado Reg Cab with the 4.8L but that I left to my dad to drive. Anyways, a little about me, I'm 19, live in San Antonio, work in the oil field so I make a little money, just don't have time to spend it, but that's where online shopping kills me. Well here what I'd like to know.. I'm always online and I see all these newer model GM trucks turbo'd or supercharged with slicks dropped to the ground running 10's in the 1/4 and then driving them home and that's what I want. I already plan on dropping it, probably 4/6. I just want to know, what needs to be done to run times like that? All the way from rear gears to cams, and tire size to turbos. I currently have 3.28 rear gears and 255/70R17 tires. Just tell me everything like what brands I should use and prices on them. Also, I'm not gonna drive this truck very often. I spend most of my life in a company truck. I hope to hear from y'all. Thank you.

Ok sure there's no need to spin tires. But after buying all the stuff on my truck... Long tubes bigger cam springs shaved head cold air cat delete throttle body spacer and a diablo sport hand tuner I should be able to spin 35s.... But I can't even spin 245s with no tread!!!!! I was stuck on grass. Sunk 4 holes in the wet grass and had some weight in the back and the truck wouldn't spin the tires in 4'hi it would only rev around 2!grand give or take!!! What the poop.'im expecting a nice play/daily driver not a truck slug bug. Any help would be nice.

I have a 6.0l truck with a bigger cam, stiffer springs, 3 angle valve job, heads milled, long tube headers, cold air intake, throttle body spacer, and cat deletes has magnaflow muffler and Gibson pipes 4.5in tip Who to have tune the truck? I currently have a diablo tuner but want a custom one. THINGS I WANT OUT OF TUNE * drive by wire system deactivated (no more holding my rpm when trying to do burnouts or matting it right off the line) * torque management turned off Rear 02s turned off so I don't have to worry abt a light coming on. * all my mods working together * speedo changed for 35in tires Let me know if you know a tuner who can do that. I want everything with a * especially the drive by wire turned off!? I have cash in hand. I want this truck to stomp my friend with a 5.3 on 33s with a cold air and a tune. Thanks.
