  1. Past hour
  2. Don`t have any pics of my `77 Cutlass Supreme that I sold to get my 2000 Silverado 1500. Was a nice car. Maybe because it was mine.
  3. Today
  4. I had a few olds. My first was a 61 super 88 convertible. A 66 442. A 72 cutlass that was modified with a 455, 400, 373. A 1980 Holiday 88. And 1980 cutlass with a 400, 700r4 373. The 72 was done by my brother while his wife was away for a week visiting her parents. She was pissed. She went out and bought another car. I bought it from him. The 80 could have been an 84 I can’t remember for sure. My favorite was the 66. A sleeper. I almost forgot my wife had a starfire. A real piece. Of course my wife loved the thing.
  5. Any word yet on whether or not DFM will be built into these two new engines (5.7, 6.6)?
  6. We lived happier, if a bit more risky at times, lives?
  7. Thanks, it’s a 442 tribute. Not something I would have done personally but it was an older resto and has all the correct bits already. Including a correct 400 olds motor sitting in the garage that I gotta tend to eventually. 5.3 and Muncie is actually a delightful little combo though, so I’m in no hurry. Aside from the fact that I also have a 1991 Infiniti M30 rag top that could use an LS swap too. Might have to do some horse trading between the cars some day. Funny enough there’s a Lil Red Express at the show today. I’ve seen quite a few of them over the years. Or just the same one goes to all the shows!
  8. A little girl said her prayers every night before bed and she asked G d to watch after each person she loved. One night she forgot to pray for her babysitter and her babysitter died. A few days later she forgot to pray for someone else and they died. The next night she forgot to pray for her dad. The next morning her dad was terrified. A bus almost crashed into him. He almost fell off a fifty foot ladder and almost wrecked on the way home. When he arrived home, he said I had a terrible day. His wife replied, “You think you had a bad day? My aerobics teacher died during class.
  9. Nice! I had one here, once. The car dealer I used to haul for stopped by with it. That was over 10 years ago now. Those are SUPER rare these days, especially up here! Never even see them at car shows anymore. https://postimg.cc/0rvcNZ1W
  10. I remember watching one of the auctions on TV. It just happened that they had two little red express trucks. My brother bought one new in 1979, still has it. So I hung on to watch them cross. The retro redone example brought more bids and went for more money than the original one did. My brother has redone his 3 times and raced it. He’s now in the process of making more tame for cruising.
  11. I always upgraded the suspension and steering components - bushings and ball joints, and had older cars that I could out-corner ANY modern car with. I used to be able to take my '78 Cutlass on off-ramps at stupid speeds and make the sharp MA corners without even squealing the tires. So much fun. My '72 El Camino must've had work done by the previous owner, since that thing seemed to handle even better than the '78. I think the suspension & steering on the '72 was much more advanced than the '64, so that probably just made a good system even better. I'm the same way with vehicles. I hate having to worry about the paint on my '93 W250 Cummins. I'm not used to that, lol. https://postimg.cc/mzKr55sY
  12. BEAUTIFUL!! That a Cutlass F85? Or 442? My side-ID skills are lacking thanks to failing memory, lol. Love that color & year, too! Yeah I was never big on entering my own stuff, but I always liked seeing what everyone had, the rare models, and what's been modified. That was always fun. These days I have barely enough time to do what needs to be done at home. Oddly enough, here in MA there are more car shows than ever in history! You'd think up here it would be dead, but it's bigger than EVER! Took the 940 for its maiden voyage with the carburetor. At first I couldn't get out of the yard! This originally had the "Bosch" system (our other 940 has Regina - single fuel pump in fuel tank, and space-age-looking ignition coil on driver's fender) - that has dual fuel pumps. One in the tank, and one under the center left of the vehicle. I had unplugged the external one thinking I wouldn't need it with the carburetor ... but the way I have the pressure regulator hooked up, 90% of the fuel volume is going back to the fuel tank, so cranked all the way down, the regulator is only supplying a hair above 3.5 PSI to the carb. Turns out the in-tank pump (15 PSI alone, instead of 45) couldn't handle the load. Plugged it back in and went for a rip. Ran great! Throttle response is always amazing with carburetors. ZERO delay that no FI system can reproduce. Also fires up in half the crank rotations as before. Low end power was DRAMATICALLY improved. There was an ongoing lean issue with the FI that I got tired of figuring out, so this is a MASSIVE improvement! Above 50 MPH on hills it feels SUPER weak, though. This is more than likely due to the timing not being advanced enough by the computer, since it believes there are multiple failures. I can live with that through the winter. Will keep me from passing slowpokes where I shouldn't and getting speeding tickets at least.
  13. I like driver quality. I bought a 64 elcamino a few years ago. All original as it turned out. I didn’t know at the time. I made a low ball offer and got it. Black on black factory air 4 speed. It drove like a school bus. It had been awhile I had forgotten just how bad the old cars drove. So I planned on making it more of a retro ride. I would drive it to work sometimes. My brother liked to build cars, I liked to drive them race them. So he noticed the canister oil filter and open blow by tube. He checked the numbers. All original. 327, 250 hp close 4 speed, posi rear end. I put it on eBay made a tidy profit. I didn’t want the responsibility or headache. My wife already had a pristine collector vehicle. It lives in the climate controlled garage. I really don’t care what it is. I like to feel the sensation of speed. Let someone else have the responsibility. I’m too OCD. It used to drive me crazy. I can appreciate people who like to take the responsibility. I’m glad they do. I’ll look and remember back to those days. I’ll jump in the wife’s Genesis to get gas for her. Get my sensation of speed and be happy for awhile.
  14. 2014 silverado work truck 5.3.
  15. I’ve had plenty of nice cars but car shows have never really been my thing personally. I’d much rather be driving or wrenching. But over the years I’ve noticed they are dying out. This one has even been canceled in the past. Hate to see that happen so I brought my Olds out for the afternoon. If turnout was really bad I had the TRX on standby too but thankfully quite a few nice rigs showed up. Nice people too. I may be converted.
  16. What year, what model, what engine?
  17. Until the engine is on the verge of overheating. Started after a few times taking the positive battery cable off and on. Now no high speed with ac or normal operation. Bmc error and air bag codes. Went to a local shop and they were able to ramp it up with a computer. They suggested bad grounds. Cleaned them still the issue persist. At the point I want to run a relay and battery voltage to the fans. Anyone know what wire on the fans gets full voltage?
  18. What did folks do before the Nanny warnings?
  19. My bad. Forgot the 4.6 came out in `91 in the Town Car, and `92 for the Crown and Merc.
  20. if the brakes are good and you keep an eye on them, just disable the stupid thing and call it a day. You can pick each set and disable it in the menu on the dash just to see if it stops the annoying nagging prompt.
  21. All the OEM's have taken so many pickles out of the jar they are selling empty jars and we are still buying them. What's to discuss? Your handle and your beliefs seem a mismatch Kidding. There are many failure modes and a few of them do show up early or not at all. Hardness for example. Others like cyclic stress failures, (valve springs not in coil bind but breaking anyway) are baked into the OEM cake. Those take a preset number of cycles which will be reached by different operators (miles). Load stresses are allot like cyclic stress but in the hands of a guy like me may never be exceeded while a guy who bought to use as advertised may get it to tap out on the first tow or haul or excursion into the offroad. There is a whole universe in between. Until the death of the Buick 3800 and Ford 300 I-6 I used to believe that if you got it to 10K without a materials or lubrication related failure then how long it lasted was up to you and not the product. Today....not so much. They are building down to an ever reduced expectation driven by building down and there just isn't anything to be excited about.
  22. @Jsdirt saw a South Dakota plate in town yesterday with your name on it. JSTDIRT
  23. The 2027 orders will be starting up soon, I'm surprised at how quiet these new engine discussions have become. Maybe it's because the HDs will still have the older 6.6 gasser until 2029 model year. When 2027 GMC Sierra HD Production Is Scheduled To Start
  24. Thanks for the info. I'm doing an oil change today or tomorrow, so I'll check them then.
  25. The extra plug in connector servers two purposes - to connect the lighting circuits from the mirror to the factory connect. This will get you blinker on the glass only. That’s the factory function. That’s what you had before. The amber forward shining light behaves as a running light/park light - meaning it comes on when your headlights are on. If you outrun your headlight switch to park lamp mode, that amber would turn but (in a factory state). Your issue is that you’re not setup for tow mirrors. The door harness in your truck is wired different - so there is a path you’ll have to go down to either modify your door harnesses or replace them with a set and … since your truck is as 2014, add additional wiring inside your cabin of your truck that runs into the engine bay/fuse block. So if you want to get these work, it can be done but will require some additional thinks and effort to get there. You can reach me at HarnessDR.com for more info. Use the “Contact Us” option there.
