  1. Seriously thought about it, there's plenty in the local LKQs. If it works I can buy new ones. I have to get under the truck to see what's there now to compare, but yes, seriously thought about that. They can't be that different, aside from the stiffer materials the new ones are supposedly made from now (from what I've read in this thread). Rubber can be trimmed or they can be shimmed with larger washers, so I don't see why it wouldn't technically work... Like I said though, my issue is nowhere near like everyone elses. If all else fails, I can actually "live with" what's wrong with mine. Probably never buy another brand new truck again (from anyone, this was my first and probably last).
  2. Well, damn it. My 67 C10 has regular old rubber hockey puck mounts. I wonder if I can cut or shim a set to fit on my truck.
  3. I'm waiting for Prothane or another aftermarket company to come up with a new mount. What I don't get is why they don't have one for the 14-15's yet... seems like they would already have one??? Maybe they're having a hard time developing one. I'll admit, I keep trying to remember to do it, but I have yet to actually look under my truck yet at the mounts, etc. I've been thinking the frame has been too stiff and resonance since the beginning. They kept pushing the envelope on frame stiffness (watch youtube videos of Silverado VS whatever frame stiffness) and the Silverado box barely moves on that tilted hill thing and all the other trucks twist. It's also evident with the firmer ride. My 00 Z71 on crappy roads (most of what's around here) rode better (softer) than my new truck. http://www.prothanesuspensionparts.com/?gclid=CJOrloSC_8kCFdgWgQod_PYGiQ I love this damn truck. Whether GM fixes it, or the aftermarket does, the damn thing is going to be fixed! Stuff gets lost in the mix, but I do not have the crazy highway vibes everyone else does... mine are felt during shifts and going up hills in certain gears (like the engine lugs a bit). I've also noticed my wifes 2011 Mustang does the same thing, it tries to keep a higher gear too long up a hill and the floor will have a slight buzzing vibration until you get over the hill or the car actually downshifts. Also noticed it recently in my inlaws 2013 Rav-4. I guess this truck made me more concerned with vibrations and I notice them in everything I ride/drive now. I don't think all these issues are a "GM thing", because some of these issues seem to be across the board, but I do find those having the highway problems inexcusable, I've seen the youtube videos.
  4. I was about to ask the exact same question. I'm almost willing to bet its the material. abominable z71, did you happen to take a pic of the mounts side by side, or compare the materials at all? If GM won't do it, any aftermarket supplier that comes up with a better stock height body mount kit will make a fortune. Old vehicles vibrate. They just do. 50's, 60's, 70s, but the vibrations were kept down with rubber motor, trans, cab/body and suspension mounts. Modern suppliers offer the same parts in polyurethane or some other much stiffer material, but that usually ends up making the old car/truck vibrate or feel the road more.
  5. So you had the gas pedal vibration too and it went away? My truck is a Z71... a lift would look pretty cool....
  6. Has anyone tried mounting a GoPro under their truck to find just what exactly is vibrating? This guy did it on his 65 mustang to find a suspension noise: I had one, but I broke the damn thing on the Hot Rod Power tour back in June, I had the back open, the mount came off the windshield, and I knocked over my Dr. Pepper trying to grab it and the inside got coated with it.
  7. I wouldn't doubt it if my truck "passed" their Pico test as well. I was told the same thing, "it's the truck trying to be efficient" but it does it in V8 mode too under power. Pretty sure its not trying to sip gas going up a hill doing 60 mph. If anyone is curious to what it feels like, put your cell phone on vibrate and put it right next to your feet on the floor, then imagine driving it like that. I wrote a nasty letter to the service manager a few weeks ago and finally got a response last Friday... My other issue is I don't have time to **** around bringing a truck in to the dealer a couple times a week. They want an appointment to see what's wrong with it first, then after that you make another to "fix it."... pain in the ass. They also keep telling me "their out of loaners" because they know they're not going to do dick to my truck.
  8. Same here. I owned a 2000 Z71 for 11 years, bought it at 4 years old. NEVER a vibration. EVER. Not at 2 mph, not at 80 mph, nothing. Ever. Not even at idle, I had friends that would comment at lights "did you truck shut off?" I honestly had to look down a few times myself over the years to see if the tach was at 500rpm or if the truck was actually off. Absolutely LOVED that truck (my sig pic). It never once saw a dealer or shop in 170+K miles. I traded it for the pile of shit I own now. I'm pretty sure my truck is slowing getting worse. Has around 3,500 miles on it now. Same vibration though, only feel it in gas pedal and floor and usually just through shifts and up hills. Not the same as what most people describe. V8 or V4 mode has zero affect on mine.
  9. Thanks. Aside from that, LOVE the truck, so I hope there is a fix out there for it eventually. So far, I think you're the only other one that has had my exact issue (from what I read, no way I could read this whole thread, just skimmed it). Everyone else seems to have a much more serious shaking, or whole truck vibrating issue. So far, mine is limited in feel to the gas pedal and floor board. I don't get on the interstate often, but I did this weekend for the Clemson game, butter smooth all the way to +/-75 mph (as fast as I went), except for the 1-4 upshifts and sometimes up a hill for a few seconds if it downshifted to 4th or 5th. How did you handle your dealer looking at it four times? Mine told me "they couldn't replicate it." Where would I go from there? Another dealer? Same dealer and demand they "feel it?" Also, since "ours" is apparently different than most others... what types of things did your dealer try to repair it, and where did they think it was originating from? To me it feels like a TC issue as mine is only during shifts and up hills. I don't want a buy back or another truck. I want this one without the vibrating floor board option. I didn't see that one checked off on the window sticker...
  10. I think what your feeling is the active grade braking. I hate it. Mine doesn't clunk, but I can feel when it downshifts down hills and I don't like it. In my opinion it should ONLY be activated in Tow/Haul mode. The next time you drive it hold the tow/haul button in for 3-5 seconds then release it, you'll see a message on your dash that says something like "active grade braking deactivated." Then see if it still does what you think it's doing. From what I've read there's no easy way to permanently shut if off, you have to redo the tow/haul mode hold every time you restart the truck.
  11. My truck had absolutely ZERO vibrations until it hit around 500 miles, then it started with the 3-4 shift and spread to 1 through 4 and most recently up some hills in 4th. Mine feels like a cell phone is going off on vibrate on a table top (but on my floor). I can feel it in the floor and gas pedal. I have no suspension or wheel issues, I believe it's the TC in the trans or the rear axle.
  12. While the numbers are higher, that's not a huge difference, the Chevrolets are only a few % higher than their market share. I figured out how you did it. Maybe we're just 3-5% of trucks that have some funky ass crap going on and that's not enough for GM to care? I'm part of a large local truck club and we have several guys with 14/15's and I'm the only one with a vibration issue (or that admits to it?) 2007-2013 used trucks for sale, any mileage, any distance, 1/2 ton only: Total 99,386 Chevrolet/GMC: 38968 39.2% (Chevrolet 27,642/GMC 11,326) Ford F-150: 36,751 37.0% RAM (and Dodge Ram): 17,505 17.6% Tundra: 6,162 6.2% That's pretty close to their market shares of sales.
  13. How did you do that? I was trying to see the break down for 2007-2013, and I couldn't even find a "1/2 ton button" let alone how to see the number of each brand?
  14. Someone had mentioned the number of used 14/15 trucks on lots. Driving to lunch today I noticed an excessive number of 14/15's in a medium sized dealers used lot. Sure enough, they have TEN 14-15 used trucks. The 2014's are barely old enough for even a 2 year lease return, aren't most truck leases 3-4 years? Get this, FOUR of them have less than 4,000 miles on them! (looks like my link will only show all used trucks, hit the 14 & 15 buttons for the years to narrow it down). They only have SIX 2007 to 2013 trucks. http://www.kevinwhitaker.net/VehicleSearchResults?search=used&make=Chevrolet&model=ALL&bodyType=TRUCK&trim=&series=&minYear=&maxYear=&minPrice=&maxPrice=&vehicleType= Mileage on the four are: 691!!!! 2,540 3,454 4,157 Edit: and 19 people are currently reading this topic... so sad...
  15. I got one of those automated "how was our service" emails from my dealership, I sent them this back: I'm sure I'll get a response, but I doubt anything will come of it.
  16. Drive shafts have always been hollow and as best I can remember, GM has been using the aluminum shafts since at least the GMT800s (my 2000 Z71 had one.) That's one of the reasons I never use poly mounts in my classic toys. Old cars shake and vibrate, but it's usually just felt at idle, but if you add stiff poly mounts to the suspension and engine/trans you feel the vibrations even more and could add vibration to the drive, so I keep my old stuff rubber. I drove my 65 mustang +/-3500 miles on the Hot Rod Power Tour this year... that car has less vibration while driving than my 2015. Sitting at a light is a different story, but driving along is smooth.
  17. I wouldn't be so quick to jump to Ford either. We bought my wife a brand new 2011 Mustang which has an aluminum hood, it's exploded with rust around the edges. Supposedly Ford has known about it for 10+ years and refuses to fix most cars, there's several class action law suites against them. Google "mustang hood rust" and enjoy hours and hours of reading. I started the thread below, pics are on the last page. Ford refused to fix my car because it wasn't rust through and it was past 3 years, so no way was I going to spend 40K on an ALL aluminum F150. http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/general-discussion-non-vintage-mustang/880890-not-happy-ford-quality-6.html So that brings me to my current Piece of Shit. I've owned GM trucks for 19 years. My first was a 67 C10 (still have it) and most recently a 2000 Z71 I bought used but drove for almost 11 years. Best vehicle I've ever owned. From what I've read on here, I thought GM had taken care of the issue with the 2015's. Maybe I'm just unlucky. I bought a 2015 DC 5.3L 3.08 Z71 on July 31st. Was an awesome vibration free truck for about 500 miles (or +/- 3 weeks.) Mine *feels* like it's the transmission (or when it shifts). It started with the 3-4 shift, as a slight buzzing vibration when it shifted between 40-45mph. I figured it was just a quirk and wasn't bad. It stayed like that for about a month until I took the truck on a trip through the smokies in TN and that's when the vibration monster began. It started getting worst on the 3-4 shift and with +/-2600 miles on the truck now and has spread to the 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 shift. It has also begun doing it going up hills in 4th at certain rpms. I've been working on classic cars for years. I'm pretty decent at figuring out vibrations. I am 100% convinced mine has nothing to do with the tires and/or suspension. It's a "buzzing" vibration you feel in the floor and gas pedal (you don't even feel it in the seat, at least not yet). V4 or V8 mode doesn't matter. It seems to be limited to shifts and hills at certain RPMs (around 1500-2000). I was hoping it was the TC or pump some people had issues with, but the shift pressures all came back good on the test drive. If it is harmonics, I hope someone comes out with a softer rubber motor/trans/body mounts. Took it to the dealer. Went for a test drive. Bastard would not say he felt a vibration (good training) but they wanted to "take a further look, just to be sure everything is OK." They had it for a day, did some 4wd and brake bolt update, said they took it on a test drive and "could not replicate the issue." I'm considering that strike 1 towards lemon law. The "good" news? is that it seems to get worse weekly, they can't deny it forever? It's getting to where I hate driving this truck. I'd be driving my 67 right now if I wasn't in the middle of a suspension drop. Oh, and take away the vibration, this was the most awesome truck I've ever driven, for 3 weeks.
  18. Something I hadn't thought about when I got the Xactang Tri-Fold... is that I usually wash/rinse the top of my cab off from inside the bed. Now I have to take the cover out whenever I want to wash the truck. Not a huge deal... just wish I had thought of that before...
  19. I just ordered a 4450 Extang Trifecta Cover. You couldn't ask for anything more easy to install. It was literally minutes right out of the box. I like how easily it folds, it's easy to unsnap the back, and 99% of the time, with as far back as it folds, I should almost never have to removed it. *if* I could improve it, I would like to see it: 1/2" to 3/4" wider - I had to get it centered perfect for it to cover the rear stake pocket on both sides. Overall, it looks like it was made for a smaller truck when it doesn't go all the way to the edge of the bed sides. I would have also like to have seen it 1/2" - 1" longer and follow the contour of the tailgate - that would be cool. We also just happened to get a damn near torrential downpour tonight and I checked under the cover and I had a small puddle at the front and some drips along the back. I think the front would be better if I had a front rail cover to take up some of the gap and create a tighter seal, and looking at other people's installs, i could probably move it back a little too. Overall, I didn't expect it to be perfectly sealed, so I'm happy. Under "normal" rain, it should remain pretty dry! Took some pics:
  20. Glad the PO figured out a solution, but this is something I had never thought of or considered. I drove my GMT800 for 11 years without ever thinking about the pedals or spacing, and I jumped into my brand new 2015 like nothing had changed (drivability wise - but holy crap what a better truck!) So the spacing and depths are completely "normal" to me. I'm 5'8". The brake pedal feel on my GMT800 was like a sponge. They have a very nice feel in the 2015. Firm, yet I don't feel like my face is going to go through the windshield if I hit them too hard.
