  1. https://www.automobile-catalog.com/performance/2022/2990870/mitsubishi_mirage_g4_es_cvt.html#gsc.tab=0 G4 isn't quite that bad. Top speed is @ 100 mph. Will reach it in 110.5 seconds. 0 to 90 mph is 40.9 seconds 0-60 in 12.8. @customboss Datsun B-210 1974 performance below link. Yes the G4 Mitsubishi is a bit quicker than even the 4 speed B210 https://www.automobile-catalog.com/car/1974/132695/datsun_b-210_hatchback.html#gsc.tab=0
  2. Never drove a B210. Your other question. 0W20 in North America 5W30 most other sales regions. UK manual states 0W20 to 20W50 weather dependent. This guy [link below] does teardowns. He's a fleet mechanic in Canada. His stuff runs on Klondike 0W20 on OEM OCI's https://www.youtube.com/@turdpailsandtrails I'm not repeating his results. But you can if you like, I tried but.... Know why the Yugo had a rear window defroster? So your hands didn't freeze pushing that pile of junk.
  3. The CVT is an acquired taste. The adaptive learning takes awhile but is on the money at 7,500 miles. I love it but it will not be most others cuppa tea. 78 flywheel horsepower in a 2,000 lb car is not lighting any fires in the hearts of the power greedy but is will do 60 mph all day, every day and pass what others cannot. A gas station. Even at 9 gallons capacity. Think 1960 VW Beetle power. EPA numbers are 35 city, 41 highway, 37 combine but I'm killing those numbers at 800 feet above sea level on the billiard tables of Illinois. Even at near zero F I'm clocking 10% over the EPA numbers. Summer, mid 50 mpg range. Several tanks over 60 mpg running 55 mph. I don't know your exact elevation but your a plane guy. It isn't helpful to power output. We have pretty long on ramps and I try to stay off the Interstate but it will get to safe speed plus 10 when asked to. But never think you will mat it to merge. You'll just become roadkill. I have no issue with this. Did the 7,500 mile oil change today. I'm dropping better oil than most buy. Checked blowby today via the oil fill cap. It wouldn't blow out a candle and hand over port only the slightest vacuum. Not enough over 30 seconds to make the main seal squeal. Best ring seal I've even gotten on any motor of any cylinder count. Compression pressure over 200 psi. Leak down under 5%. Top of the book. Must be my crappy break in method and over added too heavy oil. Does have some quirks. Apple car play is a pain to keep synchronized and the phone looses paring in dead zones that require a key cycle to clear. Programming the DIC is stone age. Heater is Killer good. Like Jeep heat good. Thanks to an electric resistance helper. Has a built in block heater area where a 400 watt heater can be added. On my to do list. CVT needs plenty of warm up when under 27F. a 100 watt pad heater would be kill'a. Weak hill decent braking. I drop into sport mode under 50 mph when I come in too hot. and it helps...allot. Jerky until the 'learn mode' is done but smooth as butter now. Learning to gauge your distance is beneficial. Heavy cross winds are NO FUN. Worse part is a lack of aftermarket parts and greedy dealers that don't know their backsides from an outhouse ring. Still the day in day out sundries can be bought easy enough. Oil, all filters, plugs etc. Full nose PPF and some Ceramic coating plus ceramic tint is on my must list. Low nose = rock chip city. Paint is not bird crap and tree sap friendly. Lots of greenhouse area. Can't think of anything else unless you have questions.
  4. Anyone remember, "Four out of five Doctors recommend KOOL Menthol for sore throats". Experts promoting an agenda. Who's paying who to say what. Know what I trust? My lying eyes. My instrumentation. Post OP teardown inspections on MY equipment I do over 50 years of driving and building. SAE tech papers. Peer reviewed published Doctoral papers. And my 40 years in the business. I also trust rational conclusions based on the foundations laid by those whose shoulders we stand on. I trust the laws of thermodynamics, gravity, entropy and so on and so forth. I've run oils between SAE20 and SAE60 and every commercial multigrade in between. I have never seen nor measured an increase in oil temperature that was based on viscosity that any reasonable person could extrapolate, interpolate or measure directly or indirectly as 'viscosity driven wear' inside the bounds of a 'well tuned' and flaw free motor, retail products operating in the real work a day world. I have seen bulk oil temperatures move with changes in base oil type. I have seen temperatures get out of bounds when there is too little viscosity and I have seen mechanical issues push an oil to resemble ciders. But the idea that running a 5W40 in a well tuned road motor who's manufacture is specifying a 0W20 will wear it out is a.... LIE What do you think the median oil VISCOSITY is for a motor run by the "Little Ole Lady" whose total trip length is under 10 miles between cold starts and lives in Edmonton. Think it may be different than say Death Valley and 100 mile trips? You see more variation is the daily operation than in five weight grades at operating temperatures and the OEM does not change his recommendations for Jack and Jill Average. But he will call out 0W20 for a 6.2 Truck and 5W30 for a Corvette and *W40 for track days. Ford Mustangs LOL 5W50. Fella I referenced in the last post is about to double the 'Expected and Legal Life Time" of that LS motor running 10W40 in New Zealand. Look that latitude up. 43 degrees. Closer to it's pole than I am to mine.
  5. He's going to wear it out with that vicious oil! It will burn to the ground.
  6. 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 (Raven) 3A92 I-3 MPFI and CVT 7,463 miles on unit 2,481 mile OCI 3 Liters Red Line HP Euro 5W40 1 Purolator PL14610 filter.
  7. I'm missing nothing and you know what else I'm not doing? Taking extreme positions to make a case that will not stand on it's own. Quote ["Viscosity won’t stop wear if it’s too viscous. It might even generate more wear from heat holding".] No one is running a ISO 600 on the street and no street motor is loaded enough to need one. Stop this extreme crap. You are trying to tell people that the very bedrock of Tribology is not true. Problem is, you are only one saying it. Idemitsu has a 5W20 "Energy Conserving" oil that has the minimum 2.6 cP HTHS viscosity You can buy any Big Box Major label Dexos1Gen2 or 3 oil with that value. Evolves' EvoSyn 5W20 mid SAPS Euro oil comes in at 3.36 cP. Vicious enough for any SAE 30 and even 0 & 5W40. You are advising using such an oil is a danger to wear? Worse that it has zero impact? And yet the benchmark standard for wear STUDY for Porsche, Benz, Dexos2 Audi, Volkswagen. Actually the conditions in the ring area can be worse. Even GM advises track day to use a more viscous oil. Are the trying to burn down my motor? Wear is out with heat holding? I don't mind you telling me there is a new method in calculating a math problem. I take issue with you telling me the numbering system that is the bedrock it stands on is WRONG and ONLY YOU know the truth. I laugh because you are the only one standing in the street screaming it. What I have said has nothing to do with mixing anything with anything. But you have a big shovel and like the crap pile method of discussion. Lord man, you disagree with Watt, Newton, Hersey, Stribeck. Get your head on straight and argue the TRUTH not the party line. I can read the back of the bottle for your type of advise.
  8. Be USEFUL not DISTRUCTIVE. @customboss here's a thought. You ignore every piece of information you don't agree with, that isn't headed toward some 'good ole boy club' goal you've fallen in line with; become frustrated and revert to some pretty base behaviors when you don't get the you hoped for, what you demand. Rude and dismissive and not for some greater good. Makes you hard to be around and worse to have a serous discussion with. And for whatever reason, I still like you. Something wrong with me, I know. This ain't that hard. I need to open a can of worms but my can opener is being hidden from me. A hammer and chisel is what is in the drawer. I'm opening that can of worms. I still get the worms. Hardly blather. Resourceful. How many times have you read me, "The conditions in the engine is what the oil reacts to, not the bench test". Look, I can measure the length of a piston with a tape measure or micrometer and get roughly the same result that will give me all the the 'practical' knowledge I need and I can't use either in an assembled running motors but that doesn't make me loose confidence in my tape measure or it's results. This IS the purpose 'approximation' testing and you know that. Your business is based on that and yet you make dismiss it when used. UOA's are the foundation of measuring on the bench what you cannot in the running machine. You witness against yourself. Seriously. Your source are the rats holding the cheese? This is why I don't take you seriously. You are headed in a direction and damn the truth. What is this mentality that says ignore it if it does promote your goal. What kind of science is that? I gave you link of the four additive producers and their inputs. ALL FOUR agree that what is happening to oil is in response to REGULATION and not to machine durability. They admit that there isn't even a test to correlate ZDDP to the rate of Cat efficiency decay and yet regulation is driving it anyway based on back of the envelope chemistry math and worst case scenario estimations. The ALL FOUR agree that reducing ZDDP AND reducing viscosity WILL have an impact on wear and as a result they, as Infineum's Evans notes, are "ATTEMPTING to seek a balance between wear and COMPLIANCE. Listen carefully. I don't care about that struggle. I don't care about their profits. I care about my machine, my wallet and the TRUTH. And I'm not getting any of that from people with goals not CENTERED on WEAR. Wear is an afterthought in the industry. These people believe the carbon foot print is better when we make ten of something rather than one that last. A five year old has more wisdom. He just isn't as GREEDY ...yet. He needs to be educated for that (groomed). EVERYONE IN THE BUISNESS KNOWS the importance of HTHS and KRL testing and it's correlation to wear. It's just being ignored, best case, and discredited, not with facts but with will power and shear force, worst case. Good for you. You are doing you part to be as disruptive as possible to follow the heard. Great science.
  9. Gummin Northrup P51 Mustang OR.... A-36A-1-NA "Apache" A Mustang on Crack
  10. Cliff Note version: I get the mental Blue Screen reading an article like that. But I slog through it and multiple times until I think I've milked that cow dry. I don't see a single point of disagreement between what I write and what I read. In fact there are several admissions of "We don't know" We don't think" "Cost to much to find out" "We are willing to use the masses to find out". "Wear and efficiency are as different as sunset is to sunrise". One of the more interesting tidbits was this statement and speaking on Friction Modifiers used for fuel economy: "....they tend to have a larger effect when boundary lubrication is involved as opposed to hydrodynamic lubrication" pages 13 and 14 This statement was offered in the context of lower viscosity fluids being specified by OEM's. to improve fuel economy. Put on the thinking cap. These modifiers are most effective when the viscosity is reduced to the point hydrodynamic lubrication is surrendered and with intent! And what happens when parts touch parts in motion? Wear! And how do they combat that? Wear additives doing the work of viscosity. (sound familiar?)And what happens to AW additives? They get used up. And what is the recommendation for OCI? Longer. Now reconcile lower AW with longer OCI where the add package is sacrificial and there in insufficient viscosity to prevent boundary layer lubrication. Add what little viscosity you did have is compromised to temporary shear losses to below protection limits and this is a "FEATURE". It didn't have enough viscosity to start with! Proof? If the FAILED Delo 600 experiment did not convince you that these 'alternate' AW additives have a very short service life and thus ineffective in the current chemistries AND that the blender is happy to experiment on the public, then nothing will convince you and you will suffer the cost that position will demand of you.
  11. Flooded cell Interstates go in after the OEM dies. I use them because the do proper warranty works when required and that isn't often. I think I get good service life from the low 'key cycle' to "charge time" ratio. And I use a battery tender if it sits more than a few weeks. People that use their vehicles mainly in the city where you use the started allot but the trips are short so charge time is short leave the battery struggling to maintain charge. Crazy worse in the winter. IMHO of course. Good candidates for hard wired Battery Tenders.
  12. Just replaced the battery in Dizzy today. OEM plus one over 10 years. I'm happy with that. 5 years each. It wasn't dead but turning to slow for comfort on a 15F day. Wife's daily driver. Safety first, right? As I mentioned earlier, Pepper doubles that. 10 year per battery but her circumstances are 'ideal'.
  13. You know that few drive slower than I do. And I've shown I have one of the faster average MPH figures when dividing miles by hours. Pepper stands at 42 mph and change on a national average of about 36 mph per FORD Commercial Services. So a bunch faster. I'm the fastest slow guy most know. Like you, it's seat time vs speed and seat time wins hands down. Prostrate will slow that a bit as a male ages. Decades ago I did an "Iron Butt Rally". Motorcycle challenge where win the patch you have to cover 1,000 miles in 24 hours or less. I did 1,056 miles in 22 hours and 6 minutes. Never broke 60 mph EVER for the trip. That is an average of 47.8 mph or 80% of top speed. That is allot of seat time on a bike. It would be fast in a car. Almost brutal on a Harley. Fall of 1977. 6 mph faster than Pepper. Now on that trip I had about a four hour breakdown so my seat time was 18 hours approximately or 55.55 mph or 93% of maximum speed. WHAT? I have NEVER been able to reproduce that ratio. I'll never be that young or that dumb again.
  14. 265,565 Mile Service 12/3/2024 Rebuild entire parking brake system. Nightmare. Literally took 6 weeks and multiple trips as crap kept breaking and new parts failed or were hard to source. I do the Continental breakfast there now and am all day entertainment. Nine hours in the waiting room just today. Replace battery. 650 CCA unit only servicing 483 CCA on load test. Was 17 F this morning when I left and rolled over like it was -30 F. Interstate Battery. They've been giving good service life and take care of business when something goes sideways. Belle Tire did the work and did a fine job with a difficult situation. Hats off Sycamore Illinois Belle Tire and Miata Dan.
  15. Yes they will...In the LEFT LANE.
  16. I didn't open the link. The page wanted assurance that I was over 18 as "Information of a Sexual Nature" may be present. I found that repelling.
  17. What does it all mean? Last night I posted to this title a careful distillation of thought on viscosity, preceded by the conclusion for the attention deficit crowd. Then I woke up at 5 AM and erased it to post a different thought. Distribution of useful information is being called 'chest thumping' and 'a waste of time'. I think @diyer2 is half right. It has turned out to be a waste of time. My time. Chest thumping? It's been said that with knowledge comes responsibility. “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked” (Luke 12:48). This has nothing to do with Spiderman nor Uncle Ben nor Western Culture. These are Jesus words about knowledge of the sacred pronouncements of God. Thing is, people believe a fictional person before Christ and in so doing show the nature of man. He doesn't care about the truth or the source of the lies he believes, and as such cannot benefit from it. And man will give credit to whomever he pleases. Really, Uncle Ben gets credit for Christ words? I'll leave the "Why" to the shrinks and prophets. But at this point, I fail to see how I benefit from others knowing what I know. If I did, in fact benefit, then diyer2 would be right. Chest Thumping. He challenges my motivations. Wow, there's nothing new. Let's see. Do I: 1.) Get a kickback from any blender or refiner? No. 2.) Does my equipment benefit from someone else's beliefs? No. 3.) Do I get advertising dollars from a third party such as YouTube? No. 4.) Is praise for the effort heaped upon me? No. 5.) Do the 363K plus member come to the defense of accurate knowledge? No. 6.) Positive ego stroking attention? Hardly Chest thumping? I think not. But yea, a waste of time. But...mine to waste. So, Bugger Off! PS. Know who benefits from knowing the truth? Me, and a slim minority of those who have privately sought it.
  18. Depends on the oil and the service.
  19. Photo The Monkeys. Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, Michael Nesmith Referencing the Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. 20. Glad you have an opinion. I see you've chosen to be the voice of 336,687 members and know their minds collectively so feel comfortable speaking for the whole assembly of members. Maybe you can sate a curiosity of mine. French Vanilla, Rocky Road, Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Cookie Dough. Scoop there it is. Can you provide me a breakdown of how many members like each one of these flavors?
  21. Now there is a ample mouthful of true dat! The public bar for reliable is now so low that if it starts on the dealers lot it has to be good. A snake can't wiggle under that bar. Think in terms of what is possible and not in what's available. Economic voting still works. Nissan is finding that out as we speak and for the second time in their history.
  22. Viscosity...is the most significant parameter of a PCMO/HDMO Games are played with it; in the way it is framed, explained, measured and marketed. All of that is built on a foundation of sand. A foundation that shifts with time, intentions and the needs of everything and everyone but the machine and the lubricant that protects it. It's a machine and it's a lubricant. Period. Machines change, Lubricants change but they are still what they are; something needing lubrication and something that is lubricant. K.I.S.S. Viscosity is the most significant parameter in that relationship. Man can build and produce both but they can NOT do so outside the boundaries of physics and chemistry. Mobil nor GM can create new laws of physics or laws of chemistry. That is God's job. What they know is what they have discovered, not created. They can chose to use them to their fullest advantage OR to their greatest profit. Which do you think is true? Da Vinci believed that every invention of man is an inferior copy of the creators original works and the best man can do, is combine a few in a unique way nature has not. I agree. In fact sanity requires it. Rationality requires it and any intelligent discussion of physical matters requires it. The conversation needs BEDROCK not sand to build upon. Marketing is the art of the lie told in a way that frames and promotes the agenda of the liar. I haven't any use for lies or liars or those that promote lies or liars. Nor those that use them to distract the conversation away from its goals. The truth. What the public needs is an explanation, not a snow job. But it isn't always what they want. Almost never what is available. And when there is the slightest attempt to supply, there is no shortage of assault laid upon the truth.
  23. Five
  24. Still $3 for 87
  25. Yes, they have and not for the better. Kind of the point of my writing about those things than have changed that were changes as a result of regulation and changes of mpg goals and NOT improvements geared toward reducing wear. More to the point, wear has gotten worse as the results of these changes. Cleanliness has not improved in the REAL WOLRD. Declining oil quality and ridiculous OCI's and marketing that plays on the ignorance, greed and fear of Joe Public. You are not ignorant of these facts and that truth NEVER changes. Good job. We know live in a world where ring seal and oil consumption is worse than it was in 1930's. Yea, allot has changed. You are on the wrong side of this and that is shameful knowing your background. You know for a fact which bases produce the best result and yet you fight against them. WHY? Ya know what? Don't answer that question. It will just be more
