Has anybody removed the lower air dam on their AT4 for additional ground clearance and cosmetic purposes? Any ill effects such as elevated engine temp or ??? Mines getting rough from hitting rocks and regardless, I think removing would look better and give additional clearance. I see no down side? I removed on my 2015 Tahoe and I had no issues. Does anybody have a picture with it removed?

I installed the Rough Country Model 1318 2" leveling kit on my AT4 a couple days ago. The kit raised my AT4 exactly 2" as advertised and components do what they're designed to do. However, I'm an experienced mechanic and the install is a ROYAL PAIN in the backside. I don't think it can be done with one person. LONG pry bars, several floor jacks and sketchy body positioning are required to try and get the struts re-installed due to the added length. I had to completely remove the upper control arm to get the strut re-installed and even then it was a nightmare. Rough Country says 2 - 3 hour install time. Yeah, right. I'm happy with the results but I WOULD NOT OFFER to help a friend install one if asked as it is really, really nigh on impossible to get it back together. I don't fault Rough Country as they had to work with with the room provided by GMC and their product achieves the desired and advertised results. I'm happy with the results but I will not be installing another. I would HIGHLY recommend the kit to my worst enemy and tell him the install is a piece of cake. I do have an issue with the price of the kit. Extremely expensive for what they produced. I can't imagine it costs them more than $20 to produce the kit which is very basic and straight forward. It's just a top "doughnut" spacer and 4 plastic lower spacers with 4 bolts/washers/nuts. To charge $130 for what is sold is WAY OVER the top. I appreciate the fact that they had engineering work involved and need to recoup their development costs as well as make some money but they went WAY TOO HIGH on their pricing. I'm a Rough Country fan based upon their offerings on "other stuff" but this one left a bad taste in my mouth specific to the cost and installation difficulties. If I had to do it over again I'd drop it off at one of several "shady" shops I despise due to shoddy work and overcharging and have them install provided they offered to do it for a flat 3 hour labor fee as RC advertises. They'd lose their ass on the install as it really is a SOB. Eyeballing it makes me think I can fit either the BFG AT K02 305/70/18 which is 34.8" tall and a section width of 12.2" or the Toyo AT3 285/75/18 which is 34.8" tall and 11.3" wide. The BFG would probably have clearance issues with the upper control arm it they were true to size. As BFG ALWAYS exaggerates their advertised sizing by about 1" in height and width they might fit. The narrower Toyo will have a better chance if Toyo's advertised measurements are accurate. Anything larger will definitely have clearance issues when at full lock with the suspension heavily loaded. Trimming fender liners and/or mud flap would not help as the problem you'll run into is with the UCA. People saying they're fitting larger tires than I mention must be making their fitment comments with their wheels pointed straight ahead and an unloaded suspension.

Everything I've read on the old interweb says the aftermarket UCAs such as the Ready Lift actually give you less clearance than the OEM arms. Not much but less AND I don't know how accurate the posts I read were to reality...

As you allude to, I read the Ready Lift UCA's actually give you less room than the OEM arms. I read this several times on the interweb but, then again these comments might be posted by the same folks who state they fit 35x12.5x18 tires on a "stock" truck with no leveling kit or any trimming. NO WAY these folks are fitting that large a tire on an unleveled truck while still being able to turn AND have the suspension articulate. FYI, I'm running the OEM 18" AT4 wheels. I "think" the BFG's might clear due to the fact that BFG's don't measure anywhere near their advertised specs. They're always significantly "smaller" than they say they are. Sort of sucks that they fudge on numbers so easily quantified by just using a tape measure. Regardless, after running BFG's for over 20 years I'm wanting to try something different. I really like the optional Goodyear DuraTrac's 275/65/18 I ordered with the truck but they howl at 53 - 55 mph AND at 20,100 miles mine are shot and need replacing. I generally get a bit over 25k miles out of a set of BFG's. I do admit I drive different than most. I drive it similar to the car in my Avatar ? . I'll take the requested pics this evening and post.

Terrible Feature - Truck Shuts Off On It's Own?!?!
rikhek replied to rikhek's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Excellent post!!! Well stated. I started this thread after freezing my nuts off sleeping at a job site. I laid down and it was nice and toasty only to be wake with icicles hanging off my nostrils and the engine stopped. My first reaction was WTF!?!? Too many people don't realize there are MEN working jobs that run 24/7/365 like oil and gas drilling rigs. We never shut down. I will proudly mention I've never been inside a Starbucks and have never imbibed in any of their product(s) or spent a single penny with that despicable company. I know, I digress... -
Did you really put 2" spacers on this poor truck!?!? How long are the wheel studs!?!? Hard to comprehend...

Sold 2019 and hoping for a change in 2021

WOW, just WOW. Thanks for sharing that with us. I'll now sleep well tonight. -
I resolved the load stop issue by simply balling up a shop rag and stuffing it below the hinge. Looks ghetto but functional. Funny as the other day I was pulling out of my driveway and my wife waved for me to stop to let me know I had left something (i.e., the shop rag) on the tailgate. Oh well, shade tree engineering fix at it's finest. I just put the shop rag behind my driver seat for when it's needed.

I'd be surprised if you guys weren't familiar with the "Hill Descent Control" feature. It surely sounds like that's what you're experiencing and talking about, however again, I'd be really shocked if you were ignorant specific to this feature. Here's a description and functional explanation just in case you guys just aren't aware. This video is for a 17 truck but it's the same for the new trucks except the button is in a different location. On my AT4 it's nestled in the row of buttons at the bottom of the center stack

How do you go about manually trying to update to most current version. I don't have my owners manual readily available... -
Terrible Feature - Truck Shuts Off On It's Own?!?!
rikhek replied to rikhek's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
One act to consider is in keyed vehicles people turn the key off and remove it as they need the keys to unlock their house door and/or it's a memory function to turn and remove the key(s). When people already have their key(s) they don't need to turn the vehicle off to get them as they already have them. -

This thread has absolutely NOTHING to do with the auto-stop feature. You might want to read at least the first post... -
Terrible Feature - Truck Shuts Off On It's Own?!?!

Guys, this isn't on GM, this is your tax dollars and government once again intruding into our lives. This feature is a mandated safety feature which increases the cost of every vehicle with questionable benefits. It's not an EPA mandated feature. The vast majority of drivers are clueless on this driving "thing" and aren't into vehicles as a hobby/interest. With the "new" keyless ignitions some folks are forgetting to turn their cars off when they park them, often in their garage. A person or two died from breathing the exhaust fumes and so the government decided to impose restrictions on every vehicle when in fact Darwin's Law was working. -
Radio plays same time as usb music plays
rikhek replied to alzie's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Happens to me on a somewhat regular basis, about once a week. Very frustrating as there is no way to turn off the commercial FM or AM signal. You hear both your phones output through the same speakers as the FM/AM signal and the only solution is to turn off the phone's bluetooth and/or Carplay. Fixes itself once you shut the truck off for an extended period of time. I was on a 4 hour highway trip and had to listen to radio with commercials the entire way... -
My 2019 8 speed AT4 experiences the hard shift as described in post #1. It does it hard enough that it scares me. It only happens occasionally and on a random basis. It seems to only occur after the first start of the day. I'll reverse out of my driveway, put it in drive and go 20' or so, it will hesitate and then HARD SHIFT/SLAM into gear. What's interesting is it only does it occasionally and it's unpredictable. As such, when it does it it scares the hell out of me.

I've had various electrical issues that have "fixed" themselves by cycling the truck off and on or just cycling through several restarts/reboots. I've had saved settings revert back to default factory settings which I've had to manually reset myself. I've had the radio playing FM and Bluetooth simultaneously through the head unit as well as erroneous DIC codes displayed which cleared without having to pull out the OBD-II. I don't like the gremlins but it's nice having a machine that fixes itself!

I'm not certain what tires came as OEM with your truck but I got the DuraTrac's and am thrilled with them. I've never run anything but BFG AT for the past 25+ years. I've bought over 24 sets of BFG's over the years and my subjective analysis has always found them to be the best dual purpose tire on the market. I didn't think I'd like the DuraTrac's but they are an absolutely fantastic tire. I never thought I'd switch from BFG but for my usage the DuraTrac are a much better tire. In sloppy, muddy conditions the BFG's ball up as soon as they touch mud. They also hydroplane with alarming frequency. The DuraTrac's perform MUCH. MUCH, MUCH better in mud and off roading in general and I'm amazed at how they handle standing water. I think your statement regarding "the crap they put on at the factory" is unfounded specific to the DuraTrac's. They're a great tire.
