  1. Does anybody know what the front axle nut size is? I'm guessing 34 or 36 but I really dont know.
  2. Traction on a damp/wet hill climb can be very tricky in a truck. Since you are most likely going slow, suspension wont play as big a role as it would for rock crawling, but the lack of weight in the back of a truck, like mentioned above, can play a large factor in available grip/traction since the back end will not want to stay planted and will want to hop considerably more than a Suburban's would. Temporary corrections for this would include, but not be limited to, lower tire pressure and/or increased weight in the bed of the truck. Also, I find that when I get to the point where I lose traction in 4-Lo on wet uphill treks, I switch to 4-Hi and "Let'em Spin". Front to rear weight disparity with trucks can make for tricky uphill climbs, but they sure are fun to try regardless. Its a truck guys, they are designed to work meaning they are engineered to perform tasks associated with hauling loads in the bed, trailer, etc. By default, they will perform best with a little weight in the back. Its very hard to design an unloaded truck to handle like a car over rough roads, but then be stiff enough to support a bed loaded with a couple thousand lbs of weight. Add in the fact that most trucks come with wheels ranging from 17 inches up to 22 inches, and there is no way to design a shock or spring system to accommodate the variables in suspension stresses based on the multitude of available sidewall dimensions (flex). There's gotta be some understanding of what your purchasing and the intent of design for what your purchasing. A truck riding on an 18 inch wheel is going to sway and roll significantly more than a truck riding on a equivalent diameter tire but utilizing a 20" wheel. If you don't grasp the concept of what a truck is ultimately designed for, or don't like the "quirks" associated with making a vehicle capable of its intended purpose, then you might be better served by purchasing a Tahoe or Yukon and you will be much happier.
  4. Worn shocks usually don't make the truck ride rougher and tougher, they make the truck seem soft and loose like a pontoon boat that floats everywhere with a tremendous amount of slow speed rebound. if the ride seems harsher, check tire pressure and fittings
  5. This is kinda funny to me because I LOVE the rectangular tips integrated into the rear bumper. They remind me of the exhaust tips that came on the older Gen II LT1 (C4) Corvettes. When they came out on those cars I thought they were the coolest looking tips ever and I got so excited when I saw them come out on the newer Silverado platform. However, with that being said, I loved the quad tips on the same generation Trans Am (93-97) even more so I definitely see where y'all are coming from. Quad tips just look sportier, plain and simple.
  6. Just a heads up, but the tires weigh twice as much as the wheel does. Going with more tire will have significantly more adverse affects than with more wheel.

  8. The technician requested to hold the vehicle at the dealership over night for testing and found a bad cell on the battery. They replaced the battery and I asked that they hold the vehicle for another overnight test just to make sure and they called this morning to let me know everything passed. I won't be able to pick the truck up for a few days but hopefully the problem is solved.
  9. Plenty of owners have been happy with their 2.7 and its a great little engine, especially for city driving. From what little I have gathered from other peoples posts, long distance hwy driving mpg hasn't been as good as expected, but still decent. City driving is where is usually shines over the other available engine options. I don't know what real world ratings are for the 2.7 engine. If you are ever going to put any weight in the bed of your truck, or if you expect prolonged trips with a large family, the 2.7 might be under-powered for for your needs and deliver a less than expected MPG. Otherwise, get the 2.7 and enjoy, it's a great/stout small liter motor that's capable of good results.

  11. My door locks do not automatically lock though they are supposed to with my truck being an LT trim. I have not checked the infotainment system options for auto locking doors so that might be something to check. The truck is at the dealership right now and I'll post any information I receive.
  12. 2020 LT Z71 with the 5.3, ~3,900 miles purchased new approximately 2 months ago. I washed the truck Saturday afternoon, let it sit over 24 hours, then went to start it Sunday night and got NOTHING. That's when I noticed I had zero lights or sounds from the truck, and pressing the start/run button resulted in zero change. No lights, sounds, door locks, or power anything. I hooked up a fully charged battery and jumper cables to try and jump it, but the engine wouldn't even crank. The lights and chimes worked, but nothing else. I disconnected everything and now the truck is sitting in my driveway. This is the second time this has happened to me with this truck and I'm not certain whats going on. With a fresh battery connected via jumper cables, I checked to make sure I hadn't left any lights on or anything plugged in to the ports, but no lights were left on and no electronics were plugged in. I have no clue what could cause the battery drain. However I did notice one thing that might be of interest: I usually press the door lock button twice on the FOB to make sure the truck is locked and the factory alarm is set, but both mornings that I experienced a severe battery drain over night, I found my doors unlocked. I am notorious for forgetting to lock my doors at least once or twice a month, so I wonder if by not locking my doors the PCM, Radio, or some other electronic is not shutting or cycling down? Also, even with a fully charged battery, my doors will not automatically lock if I walk away from it so that again makes me wonder if the electronics are even shutting down when I forget to I lock the truck and set the factory alarm when walking away from it. Irritating for sure, I'll be calling GM shortly.
  13. Many of the tracks are weak or waaaaay over priced. You might be best served by fabricating your own or seeing if a fabrication shop will build you one. Price will most likely come out close to what you can purchase but would be significantly stronger than what you might find on the web. I believe softopper has a soft top and tent combination that might fit your needs.

  15. DirtyAndy, Like you, I'm 6'-7" and bench seats are usually the way to go for me. I'm still looking for a floor console, but I have a feeling if I don't find one soon I'll be trading in, and probably not for another GM.
  16. You'd be surprised how many times I've told myself that. Maybe a test drive longer than 5 minutes would have been beneficial? Probably.
  17. With the seat folded up, I definitely have the leg room, but my shoulders no longer fit between the jump seat and the B-Pillars. Tall people problems...
  18. I have the center console, unless you are referring to the full floor center console. If you are referring to the full floor center console I have not purchased one but I have actively looked on ebay and various car part auction sites and they are few and far between. If I remember correctly, the full floor console from GM is somewhere around $850 for parts which isn't tooooooooo bad :).

I disassembled the plastics on the jump seat hoping I could just remove the seat belt cover, but the there is a steel bar directly under the cover which would be even more of an intrusion so I put it back together. I thought about taking a grinder and cutting off the steel bar and just removing the seat belt all together since nobody will ever be sitting in the jump seat and therefore would never use the useless thing, but then I would have a butt-a$$ ugly opening in the jump seat with no way to cover it.
  20. Her's a picture showing what was most likely a poor description above. I know in the picture it looks as though the seat belt cover is above my leg but it is actually digging into my leg. I have a towel beneath the jump seat to make it sit up higher, otherwise it digs directly into the lower side of my leg. And yes, my seat is lowered all the way :). Why couldnt they just put the seat belt on the other side of the jump seat and let the front passenger deal with it. I'm sure my wife wouldn't have an issue with it, HA.
  21. I'm a pretty tall guy so this may only be an issue for me, but the dadgum seat belt cover on the jump seat digs into my right leg while driving and it irritates the crud out of me. I just cant get comfortable in the seat with the corner of the seat belt attachment cover digging into my leg. My F150, Tundra, and F250 never had this problem, but no matter how I adjust my seat, I constantly have to readjust my leg because it gets sore from the corner of the seat belt cover digging into my thigh. I wish they would have made the seat wider and thinned up the jump seat, especially considering the jump seat gets used once every ten years, if at all, by most families. You have class leading headroom and leg room which are the two main reasons I purchased the truck, but it feels like the driver's seat was fitted width wise for a 10 year old boy. Other than that, I love the truck, its awesome, but that one thing might have me selling it 1 month after purchasing it. I guess my F250 spoiled me with driver's room, I dunno.
  22. The plastic member is more flexible than a steel member of proportional dimensions. By default that would allow an engineered unit, utilizing a flexible piece, to flex more than if the member was a more rigidly structured component. Hell, I hear the plastic creaking and feel it giving when I step on it. If a single wall of a box is flexible, the remaining 3 walls (assuming an open ended box and not a 6 wall cube) by default flex additionally.
  23. I wonder if the plastic tail gate cover has anything to do with the flexing?
