Right, its normal. I never said it was a big deal. Very cold and blowing snow/blizzards are part of the Minnesota life, as other states. I did electric linework, the worse the weather, the more i was/had to be out in it. There was no calling in saying i couldnt get to work.

Let's See Those HDs With Slide-In Truck Campers!

I did the portable ac unit for a little wile, it worked fine. Then after the first full week in the camper, ordered a low profile roof 9.5 btu unit to free up the limited floor space. Not a cheap ac unit, but works great. $1,200 for the ac unit with dry mode. Another $400 for heat pump option didnt make sense as electric heaters work better. 2 800 watt wall plug in heaters, work great, i have 2 zone heat, up top, and below now. I dont use the propane unless i need to, and havent needed to, except the on demand hot water heater. Putting that ac unit in alone in the camphood, i realize why the instructions say 2-3 people recommended. I was in between Carlsbad and Artisia NM last winter for a month with the 5ver, not much going on there. I did go to the alian museum in Roswell, and that was really a tourist trap. Never did go to the caverns. It wouldnt be hard for a person to use the 4 non used spaces front/back of the wheel wells to put stuff, and or carry water or waist there. -

1 100 amp hour lithium battery, 400 watts solar factory. I could drop another batt in easy if needed. 35 gallon extra folding water bladder, pump to pump it in camper not needed yet, 60 gallon folding black/grey bladder and a boat macerator for filling and emptying it not needed yet. 1 camper 20 lb propane tank needed, 3 extra tanks not needed yet. 2000 honda generator 45 gallon gas transfer tank holds about 43 gallons not needed yet. Tank is perfect for when i towed the 5ver and now, not worrying about fuel stops. Lots of gen run time with that fuel amount. Extra ac/dc freezer that cools to -4f. Camper fridge is a 3.3 dc one, very small freezer. I am a full hookups person, and like eating out or takeout. But,,, i got this to also do some dry stops like state parks and such, not really done yet. I like to cook with, heat with, ac with, electric, as well as tv. The gen would run my needs if needed as things are sized for it. Right now, sitting outside at a very nice campground in Mission Texas, looking for my next stop about 600 miles down the road. So far, i found a nice $6 a night self check in place on the way with a great view, no hookups. I need more no hooking up to check out. Then not far from Big Ben state park TX area, full hookups, restaurant and bar within walking distance, ill stay a week, or more, not sure yet.. So far its been about 6 weeks in a row in the camper, before that, it was 5 two night trips last summer. So far, so good, i dont miss my past 5ver. I did fulltime rv for over 8 years so i have my needs down. Now, apartment wayyyy up north in MN my home town, as well as a seasonal camping place up north, the tc to wander as needed. If i get sick of travel, its easy to just head back north with a tc, drop it and back to apartment, then if the mood hits, load and go. . -

A couple random added pictures. I do like the front window, but for the heck of it, i made a travel snap on cushioned rock cover. The cheby tailgate is not flat/flush with the bed floor, as it sits about a half inch taller. The camper sits on 4 rails so i was able to move in the last rail in to be right about where the bed ends to be able to leave the tailgate in/down. Palomino seems to have a bad reputation, but,,,,,,, the only thing i needed to do was add more insulation to behind the front cap, everything else works fine and is as it is supposed to be, including fit and finish of everything. Camper 2024 palomino hs-750, i got new, as a carry over. -

I am about 500lbs under my max payload with everything i need. The plan is to have stuff i may need for a 5 or so months wandering south, then back up north when im done or for spring and summer. 1st, pic is before i headed south, im south now. How south, 6 miles from the Mexican boarder in Texas. 2nd pic. After the 1st of the year, its go check other places out. The TC center gravity is made to go on any bed length. I like transfer tanks, so i have a 45 gallon gas tank in the bed. A legal gas rated, pump in only, not plumed into the filler neck, like my last diesel was. Thats why the camper isnt against the front of the bed. The racks are great for extra stuff and no trailer towing for needed extra stuff. The front hitch mount wasnt to bad to install for one person. The setup handles great, my rear overloads arent touching. Mine does have factory plow/camper prep. -
Its quiet hear........ Im almost at 50,000 miles. 2024 WT 3500 6.6 gas. Mostly used as a car. About 7,000 miles towing a 10,000lbs 5ver and now 3,000 so far doing the truck camper thing. No notable oil usage. The factory battery crapped out after a few months and a wire for one of the 2 before cat sensors burnt to the exhaust and blew the fuse, causing all kinds of problems. Both things happened at the same time. I cant remember the mileage but stull under warranty. I am on a winter truck camper south wandering tour loaded about 500lbs under my max payload, and the thing handles and drives very nicely .The rear overload springs arent even touching. Im very happy with it.

10L1000 anyone with High Mileage ? I hate Damocles....
lineman1234 replied to Homer1959's topic in 6.6L Gas V8 (L8T)
There always seems to be doom and gloom with almost any vehicle. I did a bunch of research on the 2024 cheby 6.6 gasser and 10 speed transmission. Out of the big 3 3500 choices and not wanting another diesel, as i dont and really never needed one, i chose a 3500 chevy 6.6 gasser.. As long as i have the camping/wandering need, the currant pig will more than fit my needs. If i loose the camping bug, ill get a fun vehicle travel and rent as needed. Being this is a transmission thread.... It never crossed my mind to go to the dealer or comment on the personality of the transmission. It will make a noise at times with temp, speed, gear, that seems to me, to be normal, and i can live with that. Under load, like going up a hill, towing, loaded with my truck camper, never do i hear the transmission sound/s. -

I could be wrong, but dont the 2025's have the filter on the outside for the transmission, so its only the gasser in 2024 when it got the 10 speed having the filter on the inside. I will if needed probably try the float the exhaust and pull it down some to get room. I wont be running my 3500 into the ground, so ill probably only be doing 1 transmission service for my usage. -

This is common in the fall and spring, depending alot on temp, temp being 32ish or less, short trips like 25 miles and stop, 25 miles back, repeat for days. Maybe a week or less. I dont track it much, just check and dump when i think of it, usually weeklyish. -

Being a regular cab/2 door, it will be interesting if the crossover tube is the same as on the 4 doors or different. By looking at mine, it looks snug but i cant see any reason why the pan wont sneak out of there. Could always be worse. Could be a diesel and need the cab taken off to work on certain things. -

Getting close to 50,000 miles, no transmission problems, just the sound it has made from new that seems to be the way it is. About 6,000 miles towing a 10,000lba 5ver and now about 3,000 miles with a truck camper traveling. About 500lbs under my max payload ratting. Ill do the transmission service myself this summer. -
No.... It all depends on the model one gets.. There is a manual that comes with. My 2024 has a manual that came with it, as well as the other little book.

Almost 50,000 on mine now. The can is doing the same thing, same time of year in the same climates. Doesnt do much in the summer months up north in MN, isnt doing much down hear in Texas for the winter. Pulls a lot of moisture out of the system up north in the cooler days of spring and fall, as well as if im there in the winter. Is it needed, nope does it do something still. Yep. -
Almost 50,000 on my 2024. No motor noises at all, just smooth. Same no worse no better transmission sound/s it made from new.

6.6L Gas Engine "pinging"

Getting close to 50,000 with mine now. 2024 and still smooooooth sounding, no strange noises with the ( motor ). -
I find it funny when i park next to someone or they park next to me, with a jacked up with bigger tires half ton, and my stock 3500 is taller and bigger tires, and gets better fuel mileage. I have 2 choices when going camping........... The 5ver is for sale though. I want to wander more with the tc.

Mine has no problem hauling the truck camper i have in 10th gear. It goes there on its own after settling in. Anything more than a light head wind it wont do 10. Thats speeds 55-72mph. Nice and flat hear. Just because it goes and sits in 10, dont mean it gets empty mpg's like in 10. I dont ever use tow haul, i never have in any pickup.

I have no problems with my 10 speed allison branded transmission. Nor anyone i personally know. Just internet hype. Maybe the transmission needs a catch can. Dont come to this thread, -

Awful quiet on the catch can area. I took this pic a few weeks ago. I dont track when i dump the can or measure whats in it, or send it off for analysis. I wipe it out from time to time, mostly just dump it, sometimes no ( stuff ) in there, sometimes there is ( stuff ) in there. Is that stufffffff, sludge? Or, just stuff. The liquid that was in there had been dumped, then i took the pic's then wiped out the can. -
2024 6.6 Gas Misfire
lineman1234 replied to transam617's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Misfire, yes. 2024 3500 gasser. My battery crapped out and i did have the before cat 02 sensor or 1 of them fall on the exhaust and give a misfire code. About the time i got to the dealer for my free battery, the wire burnt to the exhaust and between both the batt and it, tossed 5 codes i didnt memories what they were. But definitely a few misfires. I think the miledge was about 32,000 miles or so, a couple months ago. I think both were just a freak thing, and have nothing bad to say about the pickup.
