  1. Torque converters generate heat and while standing still or moving slowly until the lockup clutch engages you will see that its normal, if your not towing dont worry about it.
  2. GMT800 trucks had no chip in the key it is in the cylinder and after you change the lock tumbler assembly you will have to do a pass lock relearn.
  3. When i clean my throttle body's on my vehicles i have my wife turn on the ign and floor the throttle so the blade is wide open i then clean the bore and then have lift foot off the gas peddle and shutoff ign. Works for me every time.
  4. I have a rule on tires never change brand, size or tire load index. All three will have an affect on ride quality and overall handling.
  5. Have you checked trans oil level.
  6. Yes always change both of any front end repair parts as it saves you money since you must get a front end alignment after the work is done and you will save the cost of a second alignment.
  7. This is why its bad to disconnect the battery in modern vehicles without a memory power supply, some vehicles will not even start or other equipment such as the radio no operate correctly. Always use a memory power supply, they are available on Amazon for around $18 and plug into the ALDL port and have several connectors to #1 clamp onto a car battery #2 plug into the lighter outlet of another vehicle.
  8. Lesson learned i hope. Always disconnect the negative battery cable before you do any electrical work just for this reason. Start by using a schematic and an Ohm meter and check where you have current and work your way to the dead spot.
  9. Just change the switch to a 2000 or 2001
  10. You will need a pinout of the PCM and then check résistance and continuity of the wire from the knock sensor to the PCM and both must be disconnected to test.
  11. Do a circuit check with a Ohm meter from the sensor to the PCM it probably has an open circuit or bad terminals.
  12. The throttle body is the same for 4.8L, 5.3L & 6.0L. I would suggest you look into gearing to improve performance.
  13. I would say its the ign. switch they wear out especially if you have a large gangle of keys on the ring.
  14. There is no need to bleed just fill with oil start up and with wheels off ground turn steering wheel clock to clock once shut off engine check oil level and let sit for 1/2 hour restart and cycle wheel and drive. This is the procedure i have followed for 40 years with no issues.
  15. Is your dads tempered or laminated? Look at the engraved label it should say one of the two. Also there is 12 years difference in the two vehicles and every year the models change 1200 to 1600 parts plus Federal requirements change and so do things like the tint percentage. Your truck like mine has RPO AA3 window tinted deep tint your dads may be different. The rear window is a range 22% +/-5% so can be anywhere from 17% to 27%.
  16. The tinted glass from the MFR in your vehicle is in the glass not a film on the outside and will not change after prolonged use.
  17. Wild guess but maybe the brake light switch. Why did you replace the harness.
  18. If you have polarized glasses change to a regular lens and that will solve the problem it worked for me.
  19. I would start by replacing the Ign. switch since its the highest wear item and the PCM,BCM are quite reliable also the switch is the cheapest to replace. You did not state what kinda mileage you have on the 11 year old truck so i would assume you have over 150000 miles on it and the switch is usually wore out by 100000 miles.
  20. Have you checked the operation of the O2 sensors? do that first to see if engine is running rich/lean then determine if you need to replace the Cats. If Cats. are bad it will ruin engine valves or worse. The eliminators won't fix the root of the problem.
  21. 7psi per 1000 rpms is adequate so anything over 14psi at 2000 is okay.
  22. I dont think you had a hot engine at 240F the SES would have set and at 250F PCM would have started to drop cylinders to protect the engine. My bet is on the coolant sensor or the yellow/black wire having coolant gotten through the sensor to the wiring. Inspect the plug/pigtail for coolant and when you change the thermostat only use 187 F only.
  23. Dont forget the head bolts must be replaced each time they are removed they are torque to yield.
  24. AC Delco or Delphi for longevity or any other brand if you like changing pumps.
  25. Go to Rockauto and select the one that fits your vehicles description.
