K2500 Dash Lights Not Working

Recommended Posts

Driving back from a long trip yesterday I noticed my dashlights went out. There is no gauge cluster illumination aside from the gear indicator and the service engine soon light. The hvac controls have no illumination as well. There is an aftermarket cd player in the car, that still illuminates. The dome light, other interior lights, and 4wd indicator all work.

In addition, the turn signal lights on the dash work (although sometimes the rightside doesn't...). The highbeam indicator illuminates and the green headlight indictor is on except for if I actually turn the headlights on (the headlights themselves stay on no matter what position I have the switch turned to as long as the ignition is on - not sure if this is normal, I've never owned one of these trucks before and don't have an owner's manual).

I've only had this truck for about a month and all the dashlights were working fine prior to this. Any ideas whats going on? I've messed with the dial that's next to the headlight switch (I assume that is the dimmer) but it doesn't do anything except turn the dome light on.

Start out by having a look at the fuses located on the left side of dash, open the door and you will see a triangle shape cover, pull it off and check all fuses with a test light.. Might be a bad multi-function switch, they are a common problem.
