Fuss comment wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, just at the overall def gauge 'chatter', here and every other forum discussing GM diesels. GM doesn't say use GM only. Certainly not in print in the owners manuals.. They say "can " be purchased at a dealer and then go on to suggest other locations. The manuals also say: "Use only DEF that is GM approved, or fluid containing the API certified or ISO 22241 label. The use of other fluids could damage the system, requiring costly repairs that will not be covered by the vehicle warranty." Pretty much like every other fluid. Use our brand or any other that meets the spec. I've never yet seen or heard of any DEF that is not ISO 22241 certified. If anyone is aware of any, please post the info.

I still don't understand the fuss. When it starts to give an % indication, it still has more range than the fuel tank. (and if the fuel tank is low when it gets to the 1000 mile def warning, it's highly likely that there will be 2 fuel stops before adding def is a must do) The '11's didn't have one at all, and it wasn't a problem to 'manage. When the 1000 mile warning occurred, simply put 'get def' on the to-do list. It was really no different than obtaining/adding windshield washer fluid when that light came on. DEF was harder to locate in late 2010 and early 2011 than it is today. Now, it's available at pretty much every high volume diesel location and at almost all auto part supply places.

Nov 1 update should clean up most of the reported teething issues. Some have had smell from burn-off at first regen, and a few are reporting smell later -- but reason and corrections are as yet unreported. I'm pleased with mine. It had the updated programming when built and has been problem free.

Good point. Programming was released and available to update early production from about Mar 2016. And on some of the last built '16s it was not available on some trucks. Those trucks received a 'credit' on the invoice and have an rpo code indicating that. CPO Credit, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto not available 1 - Required and only available with (IO5) Radio for orders created or produced beginning approximately mid-May and forward. The exact duration of this substitution is yet to be determined. If the truck has CPO on the code label in the glovebox it will be necessary to get with MVI or other aftermarket and change the hardware in the truck.

The decision has been made. The 2019 trucks shown at the NAIAS (Detroit auto show) are equipped with column shifters. Some trims will get push button start.

V4 is gone --- now up to 7 cylinders deactivated....

Duramax Diesel Engine Coolant Leak March 27, 2017 2017 Silverado and Sierra models equipped with the 6.6L Duramax diesel engine (RPO L5P) may display a Driver Information Center low coolant message or may show coolant consumption or a coolant leak. These conditions may be due to cooling system leaks or an improper coolant fill procedure. When diagnosing these conditions, be sure to complete the coolant system leak checks in the appropriate Service Information to verify there are no external leaks. It may take a few engine temperature cycles, from operating temperature to cold, for the coolant level to show a lower than normal level. TIP: Do not pressure test the coolant system. Coolant Loss Check for coolant leaks at the welded flange on the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) coolant return pipe (Fig. 7) and coolant feed pipe. It has left hand threads; turn the cap clockwise to remove the cap and counterclockwise to install the cap. If the cap is turned in the wrong direction when installing or removing it, there may damage to the cap and/or the surge tank.

Sounds like a dealer visit is in order. I'm gonna bet there is either a fault making the fan unable to disengage OR a bad sensor resulting in the ecm commanding the fan to 'on' as a default.

We had a similar adventure where the vehicle was driven away without the phone. We also know of a fire started when the car was left running in the garage and the fob with the house key attached taken inside. I do like the way proximity detection works for unlock but am quite happen with my keys and the fob handing from the ignition. Guess that makes me a vote for key + proximity.
