The sound is intermittent with no noticeable pattern. The Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) on these vehicles is located next to the accelerator pedal and is not covered by any close-out or hush panels. (Fig. 18) When the TCCM has to move the transfer case actuator motor, the higher current passing through the module causes an electronic buzz or whine within some of the capacitors in the module. Typically, this sound can be heard only with all accessories and the climate controls off and only when actuator movement is required. The high-pitched whine sound does not indicate a concern with the module and should not be replaced to address this condition.
  3. The 110V plug is connected to a circuit breaker which should reset when the device that overloaded it is unplugged from the outlet. Plug is only rated for 150W (compared to typical household plug at about 10 times that number)

From the TechLink pages: The latest generation of engine technologies found on the 2014 Corvette and 2014-2015 Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL may produce some unfamiliar sounds during cold starts as well as during warm operation. The new engines include the 4.3L V6 (RPO LV3) (Fig. 10), 5.3L V8 (RPO L83), 6.2L V8 (RPOs L86 and LT1). Direct Injection The new small block engine family uses a Direct Injection (DI) fuel system. The fuel is injected directly into the cylinder using a high pressure fuel system, which improves power, torque, and fuel efficiency. The high pressure fuel pump can generate a subtle ticking sound that is apparent when the vehicle is idling. The sound is more evident when outside the vehicle, when the hood is open or the vehicle is operated in a drive-through environment. The sound may be more noticeable during a cold start, but lessens once the engine is warm. A slightly higher pitched clicking sound is the fuel injectors pulsing on and off under the high fuel pressures. These sounds are normal characteristics of the DI system. Another operating characteristic is a slightly longer crank time, which is the result of the time required to build high pressure in the fuel system before the engine starts. Oil Pump The oil pump design on these engines is a two-speed vane-type pump. Its dual-pressure control enables operation at a very efficient oil pressure at lower rpm, and then delivers higher pressure at higher engine speeds. At temperatures of 32°F (0°C) or colder, when the engine has been sitting for a few hours, it is possible to have air enter the pump through normal oil drainback. Upon start-up, a short rasp sound may be heard from the front of the engine. It is most often heard during a remote start. This is a normal condition.
  5. No. it doesn't spin in 2wd. The front axles each have disconnect and there is a disconnect at the transfer case. In 'auto', it will be spinning. And of course, it turns in 4wd.
  6. I've also noticed that the cruise is better than my foot for achieving better fuel economy. I've taken to using the cruise as much as possible. Currently trying to tell if the grade braking override will also improve economy. When I use M7 or less, it stays out of V4, but usually being in V4 doesn't seem to be a problem on this truck, so I almost never is M mode.
  7. With the front shafts already engaged, the drive shaft would be spinning, since the front diff would be driving it. With it connected at the transfer case and the 1/2 shafts disconnected, the drive shaft would be turning, driven by the transfer case. Either way the front drive shaft and front diff will be turning, hence the auto mode parasitic loss referred to in the OM.

My understanding is/was that it's the other way around - with the auto system in 2wd mode, the front axles are engaged and the front wheels are driving the diff, but the front driveline is disconnected at the transfer case. When 'auto' kicks into 4wd it engages at the transfer case to complete the driveline power flow.

  10. I thought that about the Lane Keep Assist on my Sierra when I got it, but left it on to give it a good try. I'm now at about 12,000 miles and I think it's made me more careful about my lane position. I find that it doesn't nudge until a tire is on a line. The Lane Departure Warning on the previous truck warned earlier - as a tire 'approached' a line. It has definitely made me less lazy about signalling lane changes.

  13. 2016 'normal service' schedule has no change interval listed. 2016 'severe service' schedule shows 45,000 miles.
  14. I like the severe service GM schedule in the OM. Transmission fluid and filter, transfer case fluid every 45,000 miles(72,000km).
  15. Yes, new normal. 'Bump' key to start position and release. Truck takes over.
  16. Are you saying the key stays in the start position until running OR the key returns to run position but the truck continues to crank until it starts? When you release the key it should spring return from 'start' to 'run'. With these trucks, the key sends a start command to the ECM. ECM manages the start -- signal to run starter. decision when to fire injectors and spark. If you key returns and the start function continues, it's working correctly.
  17. Frames are stacked, with spacers between them, when loaded on the railcars for trip from supplier to assembly plant. Some of the smearing may be at the spacer locations.

  19. GM builds engines and transmissions in mexico as well. The new 8 speed is built in both silao and toledo.   20. Oshawa doesn't build trucks anymore. There are 3 plants that build pickups. fort wayne, flint and silao
  21. Towed across the country (and obviously filled at many different stations) and haven't had any problems.
