  1. Now when did they come out with this and better yet why don't the Z71 trucks come with them from factory? I know several of us have discussed wanting/wishing GM would have put the metal skid plates and some were looking into aftermarket options with no luck. I knew my Z71 had a plastic "skid plate" when I bought it but was not happy about it since the 02 I traded in had an actual aluminum engine skid plate. Heck, even my base model F150 work truck comes with metal skid plates. If this is the real deal then I may have to shell out the $200+ and get the metal one.
  2. It is a flexible section for the exhaust to be able to "move".
  3. There will not be a fix for this problem for those who have it. There is just not enough trucks with vibrations out there for GM to even worry about it. Yeah, your truck may have cost $50k (mine was just $30K) but that doesn't mean squat. The only solution for a fix if tire balancing, new rear end, drive shaft ect. doesn't work is to trade for a different truck from a different company and be done with it.
  4. Guys, have you all read this whole thread? This idea has been discussed and there are even seperate threads on the same subject. The conclusion has already been made that it does not matter if your truck is 2wd, 4wd, regular/ext/crew cab, chevy/gmc, etc. There is no rhyme or reason but all configurations can have the vibration. It is also a very small percentage that have the problem even though others would make it seem like they all do it. Mine has the slight vibe at 72-80 mph but every single person I have talked to over the last year that own one of these trucks say it is smooth as glass on the interstate and the best truck they have owned. That is well over 50 people by now. Tires re-balanced solved alot of my vibe problems but it is still there on the Interstate. I am rarely on the Interstate but if I was I would not keep my truck, I would have traded it in on another brand by now. Since I rarely drive past 55 mph it is not worth the loss for me to trade out of it but it would be a different story if I spent a great deal of my time on the superslab.
  5. I will never go the mail route again with tires. I did that with a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers through discounttire and 3 out of 4 of them were pretty bad out of round. Had to have them road force balanced with a lot of weight.
  6. Is that after you account for the 3% size difference? I was hoping for 1/2 mpg hit with those tires but glad you chimed in, probably will end up getting them anyway. They are about the only P rated AT tire that I like the looks of. I also really liked the AT3's I had on my 2002 model and the ATP's look very similar. The downside is that the nearest DiscounTire is 2 hours from me.
  7. I don't know if it is these 6 speed transmissions or what but on my last truck (2002 - 4.8- 4.10 gears) I only lost about 1/2 mpg and same as my previous work trucks when going to an LT AT tire. My latest work truck is F150 and it lost 2 mpg when going to an LT tire (5.0 3.55 gears). I like the AT look but I don't really "need" an AT tire. I have been looking at the Cooper ATP's sold at Discount Tire. They are a P rated tire and I found out the weight 42 lbs in a 275/65/18. The stock 265/65/18 sra's weigh 35 lbs so hopefully it won't be too big of a hit on gas mileage when I finally get rid of these crapyears.
  8. You are right, thought you were talking about the stock P tires. Go to Toyos website and download their inflation chart and it will tell you what psi you need to run.
  9. 40 psi is way too high on the stock P rated tires, especially for the back tire. You are just asking for problems on wet roads not mention the tire wearing out way too fast in the middle.
  10. My VT also had the chopper sound at slight throttle, very annoying when cruising down a flat 55 mph highway. Maybe the Airraid tube helps out with that, IDK. I love the sound of the VT had mid and wide open throttle but idle was very disappointing, almost like stock after the engine idles down at start up.
  11. Alright, good luck with that.
  12. So is the loss you are going to take trading it in going to make up for your gas mileage loss? Something is up with your truck or your driving habits are causing such bad gas mileage. If you selling dealer can not fix it then take it some where else.
  13. Back pressure is not always a bad thing, you could lose low end power by opening an exhaust too much.
  14. Yes, they make it much more stiff. Some people don't like this and some do. I have been driving trucks my whole life and that is all I have ever owned and expect a truck to be a little stiff and it does not bother me but others it does. The rancho shocks are crap anyway, plan on changing over to bistien leveling shocks when my 3 year warranty is up.
  15. Do what makes you feel good. Toyota are good trucks and they haven't changed anything for years so it will probably be the most reliable but with a gas mileage penalty. I don't see the ford aluminum body being any weaker than the paper thin sheet metal that GM puts on our trucks so I think you are way off base on that one, the frame is what determines how a vehicle handles a crash and the ford has a steel frame. I also have my doubts on turbo engines but I also have my doubts on Direct Injection with cylinder deactivation lasting 150k miles as well! TIres and rims out of round on a sensitive frame is the reason for most peoples vibes. For those with the more serious vibe problems I am betting that GM knows exactly what the problem is because after 2 years of this even their dumbest engineer should have figured it out by now. They just don't want to do anything about it because it will be to expensive.
  16. You must be out in West TN to get that kind of gas mileage, too many hills on my side of the state to get that.
  17. If you didn't have vibes before but did after the tire rotation then it sounds like a tire out of balance. One of the rear tires was probably the one out of balance and when they moved it to the front you noticed it. I would rotate them back to the way they were and see if it changes anything.
  18. Agreed with all that you said. They also suck a lot of gas when first started up and at idle then other vehicles I have had IMO.
  19. Makes you wonder how "true" the rims are on these things. I am not sure where most of GM's are made, I haven't looked but the aluminum rims on my Jeep GC has mad in China stamped on the backside. Don't know if that means much either because the Jeep is a pretty smooth ride. I took the day off to do some work around the house and took my truck on the Interstate for the first time since I took my air dam off a couple of weeks ago. It was very smooth at 75 today but I am sure it was just a coincidence!
  20. Every "all star" package I looked at in 2014 had the 18 inch rims. The ones in my area were mainly LT Z71's.
  21. Sig,this is true, but I am not sure how the metal quality is on the dynomax compared to the magnaflow system. And what is up with the exhaust tip on the dynomax kit? I also broke the clamp trying to put the thing on. It is slightly too large of a inlet diameter to fit over the tailpipe. The tip dynomax uses is made in China though so I guess that explains it.
  22. It didn't take but a few days for me to get tired of the chopper sound with the dynomax VT while in V4 mode with light throttle. It was also way too quit to be an aftermarket exhaust at idle and low to med throttle. Did sound good at WOT though.
  23. I have been driving 4wd trucks my whole driving live plus over a dozen work 4wd trucks and they all will do this on a tight turn on dry pavement! I have also owned a tacoma and it did it as well. You can engage 4wd on dry pavement, just as long as you are going straight! I do this as well once a month or so just to make sure the 4wd is working but just for a few minutes on a straight road. My 04 tacoma actually stated in the owners manual that is should be driven in 4wd for so many miles each month so that is where I picked up that habit.
  24. I thought the 6 speed was standard on the 2016 while the 8 speed was only available in the upper trim levels with the 5.3 engine?
  25. I've got the same vibration under very light throttle while in V4 mode which was exaggerated by adding an aftermarket exhaust, that vibration is a change in exhaust flow, not the vibrations people are talking about on this thread.
