That is very good mpg's Ventilator! I have the same truck as you and after 13 months (8100 miles) I am at 19.17 mpg's hand calculated. My DIC is always 1.0 to 1.3 mpgs higher than hand calculated but my lifetime (never have reset the trip B) has me at 19.5 so it seems the longer it has time to average mpgs the closer it is to the truth. I am not overly impressed with the mpg's I am getting considering my 2002 model with more front ground clearance and heavy LT AT tires and 4.10 gears averaged around 18 mpg.

2015 Silverado LT Vibration/Shaking
tnchevy replied to MA-Silverado's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Go hang out at some F150 forums and you can have some good reads on out of balance drive shafts on 2012-2015 models. -
Mine was almost completely cured with a re-balance and I have rotated my tires since then with no change.

There is only one way to get out of this problem and that is to switch brands and never look back, never give GM your business again. I am on my 3rd silvy and mine has slight shakes but I can live with it since I am rarely on the Interstate. If I had major problems and the dealership/GM can't or won't fix it then I would trade, take the loss, and never sit foot on a GM dealership again. I am pretty sure it is not 50/50 who have vibrations as mentioned above. I have asked well over a 100 silverado/sierra drivers that I run into (I am on the road alot for my job) and only a few have complained about interstate vibes so if you count myself then that is 3 to 4%. As much as this problem sucks I do not think it is that widespread and I do not think there will ever be a fix. Reminds me of the piston slap everyone was going crazy over when I bought my 2002 model.

Not all Z71's have aluminum control arms, mine are steel. Also the Z71 does not have any extra protection under the front diff than any other 4wd or 2wd silverado/sierra. It does add a very thin metal skid plate on to the transfer case. Z71 is a joke anymore, I bought one mainly because I liked the grill and rims better than the non z71 LT Silverado.

What about Black Silverado/Sierra Photos?

I would jerk that air dam off that thing, especially since you are running AT/MT tires anyway. -

My 2014 with the aluminum drive shaft does have a counter weight on it near the rear diff side. -
Here is the link https://toyotires2-1524598101.netdna-ssl.com/assets/lib:toyo%20content/Application_of_Load_Inflation_Tables_20150623_Final.pdf Look at pages 5 and 11, that will answer your questions of going from a P to an LT. It will also give you conversions for going to a bigger tire than OEM and what psi to run at. Looking at the numbers if I replaced my OEM P265/65 18 tires with a set of LT 275/65 18 tires I would have to inflate them to 43 psi to carry the same load. The OEM tires at 35 psi have a load weight of 2469 but you divide that by 1.10 which gives the load weight to be 2245 lbs. The LT 275-65-18 tires have a load weight of 2130 lbs at 40 psi and 2310 lbs at 45 psi. The weight I need falls in the middle of that so you divide the difference by 5 (2310-2130 = 180 / 5 = 36. That would put 43 psi at a weight handling capacity of 2238 which is pretty close to the required 2245 lbs from GM.

I have the chart on my computer at the house but I will try to find the link. I used this chart several times over the years because I get a new half ton work truck every few years that are base models with tiny tires P tires and we usually (well used to) put on a set of bigger LT AT tires within a month because of the rough roads I travel on. It has always come out to about the same though, some where between 45 to 50 psi and this applies wether it is a load range c, d, or e tire. So basically a C load tire (usually 50 psi max) should be aired up to around 45 psi and the same for a D or E (usually 80psi max tires) air them up to 45 psi or so as well. I run 265/70-17 Goodyear Kevlar AT Load Range E tires on my work truck and I keep them at 50 psi most of the time.

You have to be careful running low psi on LT tires. You have to add more air on a LT tire to equal the load capacity of the OEM P rated tires. Toyo has a conversion chart you can download that will tell you where you need to be. On my last truck (2002 silverado) I ran the stock size tire but needed to run them at around 48 psi to equal the same load capacity as the stock tires at 35 psi. I ended up running 48 psi in the front tires and 44 psi in the back tires. Running low psi in a LT tire can cause it to build up too much heat.

Your not hurting any feelings, at least not mine anyway. The K platform trucks do ride very stiff and are sensitive to anything in the road, especially if you rode one with the Rancho shocks. I also test drove every truck and to me if you are looking for a "car" ride then go with Ram.

Headlamp Housing - Condensation
tnchevy replied to jomuehlbauer's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Any updates on this issue? Gave my truck a much need washing yesterday and noticed both the high and low beam on my drivers side were fogging up. I need to get the transfer case update, my hvac looked at (ac stays on till I turn off recirculate), and my crappy FM reception looked at so I guess I'll add this to my growing list. -
2015 Silverado LT Vibration/Shaking
tnchevy replied to MA-Silverado's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
I am not talking about the bumps and vibrations when I am off road, I am talking about how my work trucks vibrate and shake all the time. I cover a 5 hour radius from my home base so I sometimes drive for hours on the interstate till I get to a work site and then I am offroad for how ever long it takes me to do what I need to do. Those hours on the interstate my work truck (present and past) shake like crazy mainly due to out of balance tires but also includes wore out shocks/struts, drive shaft dings, etc. I usually try and get the tires rebalanced when I can but a month or more may go by before I get around to it. My work truck(s) can shake as bad as some of the videos posted in the vibration thread but as I mentioned before, we drive the trucks till they are beat up and go get new ones. I know we are talking about two different things but on these new trucks unless it is severe vibration I think it is just more of an annoyance than anything else. -

The smallest rim you can have on these model trucks is 17" because the brake rotors are much larger than on older model trucks. You are mistaken on your drives haft assumption. Mine is a double cab built in IN and it has the aluminum drive shaft. My 2002 model also had an aluminum drive shaft. -

If I am not mistaken the majority of the silverado/sierras have a hollow aluminum drive shaft anyway. -

I am not an engineer by any means but I think you are heavily exaggerating saying it will be "detrimental" to the vehicle. In my line of work I am offroad on daily basis, more than 99% of the public who own 4x4 trucks. We beat the crap out of them, dent drive shafts, ride around with out of balance tires, warped rotors, etc. None of my work trucks ever stay vibration free for more than a few months but we ride them till about 150k miles or so (3 to 4 years) and then buy new and auction the old ones off. They look like crap when we get rid of them but the engine runs, tranny shifts, and front and rear diffs are still functioning. Unless the vibration is coming from diffs that are all screwed up, those of you with the vibrating trucks will be riding them with little to no problems till you decide to get rid of them. My truck also still vibrates but it comes and goes based on how long it has been sitting, temps, tire pressure, etc. -
If more people truly are bringing in more vibrating trucks to dealerships then isn't that a good thing for those who have vibration problems? My office is near a "motor mile" with every kind of dealership you can think of and I see new model trucks of all kinds on the used lot. People trade new model trucks all the time for various reasons. My buddy who works at a dealership told me once about how many trades they get in from people who could not afford that loaded out truck/suv and after a year of those big payments come to get something cheaper. Some people just want something new, some have problem trucks, some are repos, etc. I bought my 2002 used at 8 months old, I was a little hesitant but it served me well for 12 years till it started rusting apart.

I don't drive on the interstate much but the best I have got was 20mpg back in late spring on a trip out to middle TN. Funny thing is my 2002 would get 18.5 mpg on that same trip with heavier tires and no ground scraping air dam.

You will probably only see 22 mpg on a 55 mph highway and not driving into a headwind.

Dude, everybody has considered every part of the truck as the cause. Get yourself a 6-pack of your favorite beverage and read through the 400 pages of the vibration thread. -

tnchevy replied to fireaxxe's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
So fireaxxe, what truck gets an "A" from you, considering you "have and extensive background in auto mechanics and have the credentials and experience to properly assess this vehicle and provide some honest insight to potential buyers".?? Someone with your expertise should have had enough knowledge not to buy the truck n the first place, so what gives? I'm not a GM fanboy, but a fan of my wallet. The 2014/15 has some issues but so do the others. I drive a new model ford for work everyday and it is pretty much even with my silvy in quality and annoying problems, already on its second tranny in 50k miles. If you are not happy with your truck then by all means quit whining, man up and trade it in on an A+ truck. -
How it the sound with the 50 series when in V4? I had a 50 on my 2002 with the 4.8 and loved the sound and would like to have that same sound with my 2014.

2014 GMC SIERRA RADIO RECEPTION
tnchevy replied to BLACK BOWTIE's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I have the same problem but I am waiting for TJay to hear of a final fix before I take mine to the dealer for the crappy FM reception. -
If you run to big of a pipe you will lose a lot of power down low. I made that mistake on my 1992 silverado. I was young and didn't know any better but I put hooker headers on it and true duals with 3" pipe to flowmaster 40's. It lost a ton of get up and go. Had the pipes replaced with 2.5" and it fixed that problem. Got to love those old throttle body trucks!
