Shake or Vibration Issues

Well maybe GM corporate is really warming up to the moniker ''shakerado''. The 17 is still built the same as 14 isn't it ? -
Stock control arms: Steel or aluminum?
pickmeup replied to pancepance's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I have been told that aluminum arms have larger ball joints. I do not know for a fact tho. -

I find it interesting that some of you are reporting that cold weather lessens or takes the shake away. -

I drive that section of new pavement 2 or 3 times a month and it does it every time . First time driving after repave wife and I both thought we were having a severe and sudden carrier bearing failure in the rear end. For some strange reason it makes them Bridgestone A/T tires sing and slight vibration in floorboard. We even drove it in her new Camry no tire singing but a very subtle vibration or more like a quiver felt in that too but nothing like truck. -

I have a 15 rcsb that does not vibrate or shake but they done some extensive paving on 95 between Augusta and Waterville . One 5 mile stretch southbound will put my tires to singing and can feel a very slight vibration . It is the only time the Bridgestone tires sing or hum and I can feel a very slight vibration. Nowhere else ....go figure . -

Found it interesting on you tube there are some F150 owners with fully boxed frames having vibration issues too. How many no clue but appears there out there too. One guy reported Ford thru a bunch of tires at it and checked drive shaft to no avail. Ford finally said operating normal and sent him on his way. -

I am of the group that has no shake 15 rcsb 5.3 4 wd. It has to suck for those that have shake and vibration issue. It really is a mystery to me why GM has not figured it out for those with the issue . Dealer not getting it is one thing but christ lets get real......take some of them shakers and strip that bitch and toss parts and it until you get it done . Its GM for christ sake take it to the bare frame if ya got to. 3 3 model years and some consumers still going thru it ??????? -

Any I have seen steel is painted black and aluminum is unpainted . Yes you can check with magnet also. -

I really don't think a Ford salesman should be stating much about GM having issues. Go over to F150 forum and some there are dealing with it too from what I read in general. -

If you launch hard with a G80 you going to hear rear axle lock . Are you saying besides that tranny may bang also? -
Yes good point . Even tho it is same product it could be different mfg. All the reading I have read on the hot wax dip is the actual temperature as it relates to thickness. Wax temp. to low it don't flow well over everything on dip. Wax temp. to high and flows good but dry thickness may only be 4 or 5 mil thick. Daubert say 7or8 mil dry thickness is ideal and best durability without premature ''washout'' much like a paint won't last very long applied lighter than mfg spec. My frame looks like it is reasonable thickness except during MFG assembly of vehicle where it was held or clamped . Them marred surface areas it looks like they just smeared off surrounding area and smeared it over the scare . Some of my vertical frame perches and mounts look not as thick as frame too. I will beef them areas up with more wax and see what happens I guess.
-
Good question, it does not appear to be coming off in sheets . I have no rust as I am getting out of storage. That said I am going to spray all my cab mounts and any perches welded on frame . Daubert say 6 to 8 mil thick for best protection. My opinion is these areas have coating that is closer to 4 mill thick not 7 or 8.

They are all nice looking trucks . GM rcsb trucks really look nice in this latest design. There are so few being bought than when I see one on the road it catches my eye LOL -

Agree they can't openly endorse AFM delete because of reasons you stated. But our old favorite GM maybe could make it available with built in AFM delete and sharper fuel and shift curves in their performance parts . Of coarse it will be for ''off road use only '' and clearly labeled for its intent. LOL -

If you flip the transmission to M5 and deactivate AFM does it make any change to the vibrations ? -
Yes I do remember. Hell their are many towns that pre treat the road with liquid calcium before ,during and after the storm. They may even spread salt application to be sure and keep the treatments hot and active eating snow , ice .....and our vehicles.
-
Up here in New England for the most part vehicles are exposed to a ''cocktail'' of highly corrosive ice control treatments. Hell there is trucks up here 7 or 8 years old and outside still looks decent . Crawl under them where owner never tried to combat rust and you will be shocked at how bad many components are. These ''hot'' chemicals they applying love to eat Ice and METAL.

I ordered a case for about 130.00 includes shipping . Individual cans are 16.00 or so if I recall.
-
I am going to leave the wax in place and ordered some cans of the wax in spray cans. I am going to spray the wax on a little thicker around any cross member welds and leading edges of any frame perch mounts where it has a tendancy to be thinner from factory application. Rest of truck and components are painted so I will apply fluid film to them being careful not to fluid film frame . I plan on keeping the wax frame touched up and maintained with wax until it becomes a losing battle which hopefully won't be for several years. Then I will just fluid film the whole thing spring and fall.

You can also go to the mfg. web site . Daubert Chemical Store. It is Nox Rust 121B sold in spray cans. Just ordered some myself.

I am sure the EPA would like to know what everyone is doing with their catch can drippings . I may be wrong but any alteration to do with emissions system is technically illegal without expressed permission from mfg. Especially any device that captures oil, and fuel hydrocarbons. Not against catch cans but just saying proper disposal of catch can contents falls where by the letter of the law . Has any mfg or the EPA endorsed aftermarket catch cans ? If not why ? Just food for thought .
