  1. this would be a good experiment for someone with lots of free time and who likes to make spread sheets,,
  2. i'm at work cant watch video now, did any of the testers run data logging to proove this or do we just accept what the media say's as usual? . just doing 30 mile distance test isnt gonna prove theory. it take me 25 miles on the freeway just to move the mpg gauge on the truck 1/2 mpg. i will have to watch thier video later scan gauge test TAILGATE UP = 17.6 MPG TAILGATE DOWN = 17.7 MPG
  3. do your own test.. i dont trust anything from popular mechanics, remember they came up with the theory on how the Twin towers fell on 9-11 because the jet fuel melted the beams. grain of salt my friend. use your scan tool and use the load graph and do several passes on the freeway, tailgate down/up, 35, 55, 75 mph. you'll find your answer if frontal drag area is the issue , build a giant nose cone
  4. i think if you got 800-1200 lbs on your hitch, it's time to sell your trailer and by a 5th wheel..
  5. you cant beat the OEM tune for mpg.. performance parts increase fuel consumption. best way to gain MPG's is DRAG reduction. lighter rims and tires, low resistance tires, low viscosity oils in engine and diff. high gearing. lowered body, remove mirrors, install a giant tail cone for drag reduction or just drop the tail gate, . highest octane fuel and NO alcohol gas, race gas has way more highrocarbons and energy that alone will yield 2 mpg's on a stock truck, recheck your aglignment for less road drag, delete cats for less back pressure, and redesign your shift points, and keep it at 55 mph
  6. idk... can lurk around the camaro forums and ask what they think..your the guinne pig
  7. if it's a 6 speed ...he could have a mechanic install the deep SS camaro pan for more heat resistance... what are the temp cycling points on the grill shutters? open/close temp? and how does one modify these points? was toying with the idea of removing the motor T-stat for an experiment, and just use the grill shutters and fans as my thermostat
  8. can also try the OEM converter from the ZL1 SS Camaro, it's about $350 if it shudders stop driving 'cause you can damage the pump, and send metal debris through out the system
  9. whats the trans temps durring the tow? if you get over a certain temp, the tcm defaults into high temp shift tables.. start there before spending big money on gears, get the tcm tuned..
  10. try it..! i use to have those cheap 20"s on my truck, completely messed up the handling, and when i hit a bump the mass of the wheel would over power the shocks allowing the tire to bounce like a ball . then there is improved accelleration with less mass out there, improved braking. the list goes on.. dont have to worry about curbing rims, cause the 18's dont even get close to the curbs
  11. Grumpy don't give two f***'s what these kids think!
  12. that guys YT page is everything I desire!
  13. air boxes are the same. anyone know if a stock GM 6.2 cam slides into the 5.3, and what are the different variations for GM cams in the 6.2?
  14. if you have a 4x4 why are you even running 20"s? atleast get a set of 18" z71 rims your performance will increase and sucks less fuel, and shocks last longer
  15. what model year and trim is your truck? I dont even have a single zerk fitting anywhere on my truck. I went to lube the other day , and was like damn how long are the links and movable joints gonna last without grease? this is more of those GM Warrantee Analyst working on ways to get you to dump the truck after warrantee is expired. when repair cost go up, customer buys a new one...
  16. known issues, lol, hahahaha you need to read more.. if I where you I would send the truck in for a paint job, and a trans rebuild. you'll be so much further ahead. save your hard earned cash and buy some gold bullion and bury it under the house for when the US dollar collapses.. but seriously if i was gonna buy a K2 truck it would be a WT model , all rubber interior and down graded radio with 6 speed and a 3.75 rear end. I do like the v6 for fuel effeciency but my current 5.3 is a beast. good luck . the torque converters are the main issue if you want to tune the truck later on down the road, you want to find a 2014-16 model. they locked out some tuning features on the 17-19 years. so you have to pay more to crack those tcm's
  17. GM needs to make simple reliable drivelines like back in the 90's . less tech, and social media crap, I miss velour seats ! new veihles are over HP, and under Torqued. it's a constant chainsaw race on the local streets
  18. better off restoring an old truck or SUV pre-drive by wire
  19. personally i feel the big touch screen is too intrusive on my truck, and at night i cant stand the damn thing , so friggin bright i have to dial the dimmer down , or go into the menu to turn off screen. it's all hype dude.. just get an amp, and speakers and your fine
  20. i warned him, but he has a mechanic at work who used to service doge trucks and vans. said how great they where and that I am was full of ******.. lol maybe a little but not totally full of BS
  21. thats funny , 'cause i took all 4 headrest out for blind spot safety ...lol when i was 5 years old i used to sit on the center console on my dad's old suburban. no seat belt or head rest. just hung on like a surfer
  22. vinyl hose and this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L8IHM9K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I have the truck so it comes with a dip stick.. i didn't know it was removed from the SUV
  23. you should make a big tail cone and see what gains you make
  24. GM engineers also installed a high temp transmission thermostat, that overheat the cuts transmission and torque converter lifespan by 50-60%, GM just barely gets you past the warranttee then you'll start having issues my nieghbor runs 0-20W on his new Dodge MInivan he bought 4 years ago. now the engine started making a knocking sound 2 months ago.. hmmm watered down oil might as well use ATF for motor oil
