  1. Finally got around to cleaning/repainting my ugly, rust covered frame. Did everything behind the front fenders, my wax is still well in tact up in the front.
  2. I had a similar issue a few months ago, except for the battery drain. Anytime it rained, the power steering would quit, and then cut in and out for the next couple days. Found a connector that wasn't sealing right going to the assist motor. I let it dry out, then packed it full of dielectric grease. Made sure the gasket was seated right, and I haven't had an issue since. Just a thought...
  3. 2014 Sierra, never had an issue with steering, recall was performed late last year if I remember right. I just washed it a couple days ago in a self-serve bay, and did a low pressure rinse on the frame and underside. Started it up to leave, and had the the lovely "Service power steering-drive with care" message. Yesterday, it completely lost power steering. I guess I get to make an appointment with the dealer. I'm thinking some water got some place it shouldn't be. This truck is really starting to grind my gears...
  4. Precisely, it ain't high mileage till you've made it to the moon!
  5. What Grumpy Bear said. Go to a local equipment dealer or search around on Craigslist and find an old JD, Wheel Horse, Simplicity, or whatever. You can find them for far less than a grand, and they'll still be running when all these new box store machines are in the junk yard, or recycling bin, or wherever. I bought a 1992 JD STX38 several years ago for pocket change. Only replaced the shift fork and a belt over the course of 4 years. I needed a little bit more machine for 6 acres, so now I have a Woods zero-turn
  6. Found one! Don't know where there are drains in the other cab layouts, but my single cab has one right at the back corner. I drilled a ¼" hole in the plug for the cable to run through, and then gave it a thick dose of black rtv to seal it up good. Thanks for the inspiration to finally make my installation a little cleaner lol.
  7. Sounds good. I've put it off long enough, I might get it done this weekend before I get busy at work (:
  8. I've got it running through the doorframe for now. Eventually, I'm going to run it through one of the drains in the floor and seal it up good.
  9. The best solution I could think of without sacrificing the limited single cab storage or drilling holes was to hang the radio on the center child seat anchor using one of those 3M Command hooks. My only gripe is it's a bit awkward twisting around if I have to change settings on the radio. Eventually I'll find a better solution lol.
  10. I'm surrounded by dirt roads that are a still a bit muddy from the snow thawing/recent rain. Took this picture after running some errands. I try not to obsess over a clean truck, cause it doesn't stay clean for long lol
  11. Wash, wax, polished the chrome, and finally convinced myself to remove the front air dam.
  12. A quick search on the NHTSA website shows that a potential of 679 2015s were recalled for power steering issues. Sounds like they replace to entire assist motor, whereas the 2014 fix was a quick reprogram. My 2014 was one of the recalled ones. I never had the truck try to steer itself, but I did get a "Service Stabilitrac" message once. Took me longer to drive to the dealer than it did for them to fix the recall. Even if GM doesn't think you're one of the 679 trucks affected and didn't mail you a notice, swing by the dealer and tell them what's happening. Hopefully they will be willing to get it fixed for you under the recall. If not, don't take no for an answer, as this is a safety issue.
  13. Most of mine are Ryobi. They're cheap and it's nice being able to power any of them with the same battery. I've slowly been expanding my collection over the last 7 years or so, and I'm yet to have a problem with them. They don't get used daily, but see their fair share of abuse. Only recently did I wear out the first battery, and it's one of the ones that came with my 7 yr old dill/impact combo. All the others hold a good charge, and power remains consistent till the end. Any time I'm at Home Depot, I look for the 4ah battery 2 pack for $99. For how long those batteries hold a charge, you can't beat the price. I especially like the 3spd 1/2 inch impact; it'll take off lug nuts that would give a gorilla with a breaker bar a run for it's money. If I depended on the tools to put food on the table, I'd probably go with a bit better brand. Since I don't, Ryobi works good enough.
  14. To the OP, I was in the same boat as you. Reading various forums scared me to death, but then I realized how few of the trucks actually have the problems you read about. My 2014 just turned over 67k miles yesterday, and the only "repairs" have been rear shocks and a battery, which I consider wear items. Also had the power steering recall. Take care of your truck, and it will take care of you. I look forward to many years and many miles with this truck.
  15. New rear shocks; back end was starting to jump around like an empty dump truck. Went with Napa branded Monroe Reflex. Rides a lot better, and no more wheel hop!
  16. I was feeling productive this morning... Ran Seafoam through the intake, changed the oil, greased the front end, rotated the tires, and cleaned the throttle body. It wasn't too dirty, but she's spotless now!(this is before cleaning)
  17. Wasn't as bad as I thought, took maybe 30 minutes. Took out that cross member, and the module on top of the battery just pops right off. Worst part was trying to stuff the slightly larger new battery down in there. If it was any bigger, it wouldn't fit in there.
  18. Put in a new Duralast Platinum H7...biggest battery that will fit in there. Truck barely started this morning, so I decided it was time. First "repair" I've had to do so far. I know, I need to clean my engine bay
  19. My buddy asked me about lifting his Ford. He wondered if a suspension lift or body lift was better, and asked how high he should lift it. I told him to raise the body about 6ft. Had to get done anyways if he had to work on the truck. He thanked me soon after that when a fuse blew
  20. If I was in my old Dodge beater, and I was you, I'd "let the wind catch the passenger door," several times. If I was in my Sierra, I'd keep a picture in case there was damage when they pulled away. Like has been said, this was not an accident. Someone took extreme care to park like that. Friend playing a joke or someone just being a _________, I'm not the one with that answer.
  21. Merry Christmas everyone! First post, so I thought I'd throw up a picture after our surprise foot of snow. 2014 1500 w/t 4.3 2wd
