Towing across country or 1-2 hours away? It's all in what you are comfortable with, within reason of course. I tow and have towed 28 ft campers weighing in, fully loaded, around 7,500 - 8,000 lbs. I'm comfortable towing that without a problem. The brakes on the camper basically stop my truck. You cannot go without good brakes on the larger loads.

12,000 lb Hidden Winch Installed

Finally got my Badlands 12,000 lb winch installed today. Not much to look at and well that's the point! Took some extra cutting to get the winch to fit into the bracket. And takes some cutting of the bumper brackets to get the mount to fit/work. Nothing structural had to be cut through. Used this hidden winch mount from Rough Country. https://www.roughcountry.com/gm-hidden-winch-mounting-plate-11004.html Control box is relocated up into the engine bay and this winch has a wireless remote. So I just have to turn on the disconnect switch near my battery and I have wireless remote capabilities. Do not need to plug a cable into the winch. Wired is available if the battery in the remote goes dead though. I know not the best picture. It's dark. I can get better pictures tomorrow. But not much to look at and that's the way I wanted it.

2014 Silverado 4WD
Praedator replied to JJ Gonzalez Jr's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Feels like? Jack up all four wheels and find out where the disconnect is and what is turning and what is not. Old school knowledge here. Got to just find out where it's turning and where it's not when the problem occurs. Also could be a ground issue. There is a main ground usually on the frame by the driver's side door to ground the system. https://www.knowyourparts.com/technical-resources/hubs-bearings/automatic-locking-hubs/ -
GMC with air dam removed?
Praedator replied to bcazier's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I drive off road quite often with ruts and more. That air damn was coming off whether I ripped it off or took it off myself. Chose option number 2 and took it off myself. Best thing ever. -
2014 Silverado 4WD
Praedator replied to JJ Gonzalez Jr's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Not enough information to even start to help. What is it doing other than showing a light? Not engaging at all. Engaging 4WD LO but not 4WD HI or vice versa? Jack your truck up off the ground with all four wheels in the air. Engage 4WD, what spins and what doesn't? Noises? You get my point. Not really enough to go off of here. Sounds like you might just want someone to take a look at it if you can't put a little more effort into diagnosing the issue. Nothing against you or your skills. But you have to give us more to go on here. -
Wheel Well Liners Promotes Rust??
Praedator replied to Big R ED's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Depends on where you live, climate, road needs salt etc.... Here in the south, I live near saltwater and I do a thorough cleaning behind my wheel well covers. My front are factory and my back are rough country plastic that I added to not have black fronts and white back wheel wells. Really protects the rock chips and other things I think would cause rust much sooner. Doesn't take much to spray behind the plastic ones in the back. The front factory ones are a little more difficult to rinse out behind them. -
Rough country listened and we finally have a hidden winch mount for our trucks! https://www.roughcountry.com/gm-hidden-winch-mounting-plate-11004.html Ordering mine now.

1 quart of oil every 2000 miles
Praedator replied to Mikeeeeeee's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
23K miles on my 2018 5.3 and mine does not consume one drop off oil yet! I've completed 4 oil changes and oil always looks good. I do have AFM disabled! Only thing my truck has that is not stock. Sent from my XT1710-02 using Tapatalk -
Don't be stupid and put a child in a car seat in a big jacket!!!! In a crash it can kill them. Big no no to put them in thick jackets etc... in car seats! I do have three children with two in car seats in the back of my 2018. Sent from my XT1710-02 using Tapatalk

Pics of leveling kits with stock wheels
Praedator replied to Gingerly's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I am glad to see someone else with the factory 17's I have the same rims and will eventually go with the same tire size from my 265/70/17. I like more rubber! I'm not into the skinny tire revolution. -
What have you done to your K2 today?
Praedator replied to block8head's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Not knocking anyone. But the way of older days seem to be gone. No one seems to know how to even throw a plug in a tire! I am out in the woods alone all the time. A plug kit is always in the truck skiing with 12v compressor Sent from my XT1710-02 using Tapatalk -

Ordered 1.5" front level kit with 1" rear kit. Want to level, add a little height and keep some rake since I tow often! Sent from my XT1710-02 using Tapatalk -

Yes, the kit part number is: 23176881 This is the ebay listing that I ordered from. Came in original GM packaging. It's a dealer in Panama City, FL. https://www.ebay.com/itm/271607751458 This is the two piece that will replace the plastic guard and then the transfer case shield as well. Make sure the kit comes with the tapered bolts. The holes for the transfer case plate are not threaded already and you need the bolts from GM to work properly. -

Took the horrible plastic "shield" off and put actual skid plates under the truck! I had ripped the plastic guard and I take my truck off the pavement quite often. It's crazy that a 4x4 truck does not come with metal skid plates and has a plastic 'shield" under there! Ordered the GM parts off Ebay. Three piece kit that came with the differential plate as well. I feel a lot better now going off pavement. -
Useless in the South? Hmmm, don't go off road much or hunt or go in the backwoods much? I went with a 2WD truck once! Regretted it every time I went in the woods. I'm a hunter and getting stuck was a monthly occurrence during hunting season here in NW Florida. Some really muddy, mucky, sandy roads around here! Trucks in general are a status symbol these days. I see a lot of squeaky clean 4x4 trucks driving all over. Not mine! New and caked with mud constantly!!!! Why? Because I take it off road and have use 4x4 almost every trip into the woods.

Here ya go. Seems like same part number but different insulators etc... Looks like rubber inner tube to me in there now!

That is the floating axles. If shaken a lot of trucks and the noise is all the same. Leaf spring clunk is different. Sent from my XT1710-02 using Tapatalk

Glad to hear this. My dealership is replacing both left and right spring packs with "NEW" designed ones with new insulators and insulator locations is what they told me. I go in this Friday for the appointment. The service adviser didn't even know about the new leaf spring configuration. He was simply saying that replacing them would just be the same ones with the same problems. But the tech comes out and says "new leaf springs on both sides". The adviser kind of shocked asked the tech why if they are just the same leaf springs? Tech said they are different and a fairly new addition to the fix GM is putting out. Here's to hoping it fixes my clunky rear end!!!!
