Steering wheel controls mainly. Also display of certain info on the DIC. Also watched some videos where people had other miscellaneous issues...seems like one was the light not working on the heated steering wheel (although it did heat). A minor gremlin I admit, but makes you wonder what others there might be. I asked about some of the issues I'd heard about...but never really got an answer. I had started looking at the Gen 3, but was going to go with a Gen 4. The only real reason I was looking at a Gen 3 was that was where a link took me to and I didn't know there was a Gen 4 till I looked at the whole website. I guess mainly what changed my mind is that I really just wanted to keep a stock look, but that is my personal preference.

Has anyone looked into or considered this upgrade? I didn't watch the whole install video, but if I understand correctly it by passes the factory HMI and adds many functions. I currently have a 2.0 HMI and have researched the 2.5 upgrade for a while and was just about ready to start on it, but this may be a better way to go. I have sent an email to the manufacture asking SEVERAL questions. Including about some unlocks available on 2.5 upgrade (video in motion etc) as well as steering wheel controls. http://www.linkswellinc.com/products/t-style-radio/ts-gmpu12-1rr-1/ Review video: Install video: -
Discovered! Features you may not have known about...

First time I saw it on my nephew's vehicle I almost said something to him, but I figured out. Maybe people will learn eventually. -
Well don't have a warranty. I may have checked wrong sources for my own hardware (and what all hardware I needed) and then programming cost....but even going that route was only going to save $100-$200 it seemed. So if it can be done with buying hardware yourself from other sources, and being sent for programming all for $300-$400 I'm curious to know if all works correctly and exactly what was bought and who did programming.

I wondered about that. But I was thinking on "battery power" would mean they would stay powered regardless of door being open. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
