  1. If the bolt was soft enough to round out, cobalt bits might work.
  2. Brand new cobalt bits might work. I'd start small to get a pilot hole and work up to a bit very slightly larger than the threaded portion of the bolt to get the head to pop off. Then you can pull the steering wheel. With the wheel out of the way, you might be able to double nut the exposed threaded portion of the bolt and get it out. I'd use jam nuts because they are thinner. Drilling will probably heat the bolt enough to break the grip of the thread locker. It might even come out quite easily with a vise grip because it will no longer be torqued. Drill slowly and use a small amount of cutting oil on the bits as you drill, but not so much that it slings all over the place. I'd be a little worried about welding inside the truck but that also might work with proper protection. Disclaimer: I honestly don't remember if the steering wheel retention bolt is fully threaded all the way to the head. For this approach to work you'll need enough exposed threads to allow the double nuts to grip.
  3. Did you use a T45 Torx bit? If you did, change to a T50. which is the correct size. Then heat the bolt and bump it with an impact wrench until it starts to move. Don't hammer it, use short bursts. It is very easy to think a T45 will work because it almost fits. Don't ask me how I know. LOL
  4. I just noticed the "Bracket" as the part intended to mount the Assist Handle. On my 2020 Silverado Custom, I took a different approach by installing 8mm Nutserts in the two rearmost mounting holes rather than using the "Bracket." So my handle is mounted using 3 8mm bolts. The mounted handle is very solid using this approach so I can't see changing anything at this point.
  5. The graphics are nice but not absolutely necessary. I was more interested in the steering wheel audio and phone controls because I consider them a safety issue.
  6. I ended up using 8mm Nut Serts on the two unthreaded holes to match the 8mm threaded hole and they worked fine. It's strange because the all the GM parts websites said the lever didn't fit my 2020 Silverado 1500 Custom while it did fit the GMC 1500. My guess is that the Silverado has two unthreaded holes while the GMC has all three threaded. Bottom line: The lever will fit Silverado trucks but you have to use Nut Serts on two of the mounting holes. Accordingly, I bought a kit from Amazon that worked well and will be a great help in future projects. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081GDRTXP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  7. I got my GM assist handle today. The part number is 84726114 and it is described as an "F-HANDLE." I checked fit and the holes in my truck bed line up, but two of them are unthreaded. I'm going to hit the hardware store tomorrow but would appreciate knowing what to use on the unthreaded holes to secure the handle.
  8. It's a lotta work but definitely worth it. My biggest fear was putting the Harness Doctor wire in the wrong hole and having to disassemble everything to correct my mistake. I counted the slots for the Harness Doctor wire ends three times just to be sure.
  9. The only gold Bowtie on my truck is on the steering wheel airbag. How do I remove it?
  10. I used part # gm 84532302 but it's a little confusing because the part # has changed several times. I paid $162 for mine because I bought it through my buddy's body shop. https://www.gmpartsoutlet.com/p/GMC__Sierra-1500/HANDLE/75806054/84532302.html?partner=googlebase_adwords&kwd=&origin=pla&partnerDevice=c&userLocation=9027200&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIl-DawcTD8wIVP2xvBB0gMwQrEAQYAiABEgIk9PD_BwE
  11. Finally figured out that the GM handle will work for me so I'm going to take the Heininger back to Lowes when I get it. Just ordered the GM handle. It will come in next week.
  12. I had exactly the same problem with the gap filler. Ended up throwing it in the trash.
  13. Really nice. Would you consider making and selling me one?
  14. Hmmm.....I'm an Apple person so maybe my experience doesn't apply but I can make and receive calls with the phone buttons on my steering wheel when my Iphone is connected to Carplay through my truck's USB port. I've had the GM steering wheel buttons on other vehicles and found I really missed them on the 2020 Silverado Custom that I bought at a fantastic price prior to the chip shortages. I've added Katskins leather heated seats, the GM leather covered steering wheel, a front camera and the High Country instrument cluster. By doing this, I've attained all of the up model features I wanted on my Custom at a much better price than that dictated by the up model packages. I also prefer the looks of the Custom over most of the chrome filled up models.
  15. I went ahead and ordered the Heinginer handle and some Plasti Dip to coat it in rubber before I use it. Best price was at Lowes with free shipping at $66 with my veterans discount. I'm going to Plasti Dip it with this stuff from Amazon before I let it touch my truck. Performix 12219 Plasti Dip Clear - 22 oz. Dip Can
  16. I have a GM accessories folding hard cover on my 2020 Silverado 1500. Will the GM tail gate handle work with if I flip open the first section of the hard cover.
  17. I just completed the install of a High Country instrument cluster on my 2020 Silverado Custom and the results are remarkable. I now have complete control of the all the entertainment on my 7 inch IOR radio using the steering wheel buttons on the leather wrapped wheel I purchased from GM Parts Direct. As an added bonus I can make and receive calls using Apple Car play by using the steering wheel buttons rather than using the buttons on the phone. And, the information from the High Country Cluster about the truck's operation puts the stock panel to shame. The White Automotive and Media Services instrument panel worked out beautifully and The Harness Doctor's customer service was above and beyond. I had to text him several questions during the conversion and he always answered with excellent information in a timely manner. There are plenty of photos, and videos on this Forum, and others, on how to complete the change from the basic Custom panel to the High Country, so I'll leave by saying the conversion was well worth it in terms of money and my labor. I've added a couple of photos, the first one shows how extensive the tear down was and the second highlights the newly installed panel.
  18. This one worked for my 2020 with storage in the third seat lid: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X4Y3GTZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  19. I've had two warranty issues with Expel and in both cases they were handled immediately with no hassle. That means alot to me.
  20. We have two, both purchased on Amazon. One for our 2020 Custom Double Cab and the other for our hot rod 66 Mustang. Our little Shiba is a major shedder and both of these work well. 21. I'm satisfied with my set up but if I decide on another upgrade, it will probably be a powered sub woofer for more base.
  22. Great question? Based on my limited knowledge, I just went with Crutchfields recommendation as to what would fit. Below is the whole order: Kenwood KFC-6966S 1 $69.99 Kenwood Excelon KFC-X2C 1 $79.99 Posi-Products™ Car Speaker Connectors 1 $7.99 Sound Ordnance™ P-67B 1 $59.99 Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra 201 Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra 201 1 $0.00 American International SH3802 Speaker Wiring Harness 1 $0.00 Metra 82-3004 Speaker Mounting Brackets 1 $0.00 Install Bay SPHKC Speaker Installation Kit 1 $5.00 American International SH3802 Speaker Wiring Harness 1 $0.00 Scosche SAGMHR-634 Speaker Mounting Brackets 1 $0.00 Subtotal: $222.96 Sales tax (TX): $18.40 Shipping: Free Order total $241.36
  23. I have 2020 Silverado Custom Double Cab with the stock speakers. Frankly they're junk so I ordered replacements from Crutchfield and am delighted with the result. Attached is a photo of the truck. I used Kenwood Excelon KFC-XC2C speakers in the dash and Sound Ordinance P67B speakers in the doors. I also purchased all the installation parts that Crutchfield recommended. My installer finished the job in less than two hours. The difference is amazing and for my purposes, I don't need an extra Amp because the speakers give me plenty of volume and a reasonable amount of base. Also, the high notes are now outstanding.
  24. I have Expel on the whole hood, roof, windshield posts, entire front end, door pocket areas and around the wheel wells on my 2020 1500 custom. I'm not an off roader, but so far I have virtually no chips anywhere after several road trips. It's pretty expensive but worth the money to me.
