1. My brother's 2024 Dmax has the Auto-trac case. Next time he's here & the driveway is dry, I'll crawl under it.
2. No I didn't. I wasn't really looking for specific models, just who the vendors were.
3. I looked online & it appears that GM is the only OEM using NVG/Magna cases, the others use Borg Warner or Dana. Back in the day, New Process 203s, 205s & 208s seemed to be used across the board.
4. Never say never. Ive owned 6 IFS 4x4s before my current 2024. The 1st was an an S15 & the rest were 1 each of the subsequent full size truck models. W/ the S15, the vacuum based center disconnect caused me to spend 15 minutes 1 night @ a gas station parking lot, trying to get it to 'disconnect' after driving out of a snowfall & onto dry highway. I've also had 2 T/C actuators fail (1 causing me to get stuck in snow) in subsequent trucks (I think the 1st 2, possibly 3 full size trucks were manual shift). None of these trucks have been modded w/ lifts or oversize tires. I got that out of my system w/ my '82 K15... Mostly highway driving w/ 'light' offroad use on our woodlot.
5. Is 'Elpo Grey' still available? Also, isn't it great that w/o a colour chart, you have no idea what the colour is? I can't see a LEO describing the vehicle as being Barb Wire Metallic...
6. This is an observation from 20 years ago, but when I was out in the Alberta & British Columbia oil patch, the vast majority of 'work trucks' either pickups or upfitted chassis cabs, were Dodges or Fords. Drive thru the nearby towns & all the 'personal use' 3/4 tons were Chevs or GMCs. I'm sure the product planners in Dearborn & Auburn Hills have researched the feature & found that it isnt something the end users desire.
7. Unless things have changed since 2008, all components were unloaded into the plant. Parts were not unloaded to the yard for later use. The automotive world works 'just in time' since the 80s. There is very little 'dwell time' from when parts arrive at the assembly plants to when they are used in the vehicle build.
8. That could be possible. *Pacakge X contains RPOs ABC, DEF, GHI and so on...*
9. I've always bought mid trim level trucks (1982 High Sierra K15 the first) & have owned each subsequent version. All were regular cabs. Of all of them, I hated the seat in my 2017 2500HD. I just never felt comfortable in it. That being said, I do like the seat in my 2024 2500HD crew cab, LT package.
10. Back in 2016, my sales guy was searching for a truck for me (regular cab K2500HD gasser). Found 1, but has the small mirrors. No thanks I tow a travel trailer. Not sure how easy the upgrade would've been on an LT back then.
11. I'll take your word on the RPO code, but your description (plus the cornering camera when towing) matches what I have on my 2024 LT. I'm curious about the 'basic' tow mirrors that the OP had. I kind of thought mine were the base tow mirror compared to what the LTZ tow mirrors have, the added power folding & telescoping. My nephew was showing me those features the other day on my brother's truck.
12. What motors are in the trucks built thru the Navistar joint venture? Are they common on both brands or do the Navistar trucks use 'their' drivetrain?
13. Interesting that they are going back to a '350' engine. When the 5.3 came out I was puzzled as to the reduction in displacement.
14. In 4 HI, the truck has to be stopped to shift into 4 LO.
15. Whew! Thanks a bunch. I thought a piece has gotten knocked off by some road debris. In 2023 driving on I-94 north of Minneapolis, I had a chunk of 'gator', hit my RH mirror causing a filler piece to 'disappear'
16. Looking @ the RH mirror on my truck & I'm puzzled by the 'protrusion'. The LH side just has the camera. RH: LH: My truck is a 2024 LT w/ the base towing mirrows (only power folding, no power telescoping). If anyone could check and/or fill me in on what the 'detail' is, it would be appreciated. TIA
17. Could be parts issues. I have seen in the past restrictions on options. Usually @ the start of the model year.
18. What year is your truck, pre 2024?
19. I found out that the Launch Creader Elite even w/ a CAN FD adapter is unable to access the TPMS to adjust the thresholds on my 2024. A member here was able to use 1 to adjust an earlier T1XX.
20. I run either 50 or 55 psi unless I'm hauling firewood or hauling my travel trailer & increase it to the placard pressures. At 55 the TPMS gives low pressure warnings (2500HD). Is there a camper special RPO? I've never heard of 1 in recent years. AFAIK, the VYU plow prep, is the only optional way to bump up front suspension rating.
21. My truck is black so the red tow hooks would set it out from every other black 2500HD crew cab. My previous truck was blue w/ a chrome bumper.
22. Reminds me of my friend ordering a Camaro in April of 2023. He didn't get it until October. Lots of 'excuses' along the way. It apparently was built in the summer but sat in Lansing for months. His dealer was a couple of hours north of Oshawa. Considering the issues pickup production faced (they were storing incomplete trucks all over Durham Region) in 2023, my guess was his Camaro was built but incomplete. I told him I would've walked on it. He's never owned a sporty car in his life & I think it was more of a mid life crisis thing. We had both turned 61 in 2022.
23. After a few months of ownership & quite a bit of trailering, I must say it is nice to have a hitch that is user friendly when hooking up the safety chains. This coming after 8 years of dealing w/ the (fill in the blank) design used on the K2XX HDs. Did anyone ever hear or read of an explanation as to the 'unconventional' placement of the holes for the safety chain attachment on those trucks?
24. Having been around 3/4 tons since the 70s, I hadn't really noticed the stiffer front suspension on them. Seldom have I driven a 1/2 ton. I have driven my brother's 3/4 ton Dmaxes, that is a different story though.
