3rd Brake Light Wiring Questions

Recommended Posts

Posted

I put a Leer camper shell off of a '96 Chevy onto my '93.

It has a 3rd brake light & a dome light w/off-on switch which I want to connect.

Of course whatever plug, etc. might have come with the shell originally, is gone.

It has 3 black wires hanging down the side, 1 of which is a heavier guage that the other (2).

I have no trailer wiring and/or 3rd light on my '93.

Any suggestions on how to connect?icon14.gifThanks!

First off, welcome aboard.

Secondly... I would venture to say the heavier wire is your ground. I always use a couple long pieces of wire with gator clips at the end when attempting electrical work. Ground out the heavy wire and then apply heat to the other two, seperately, and see which works which (brake-switched dome). Once you figure that out, you can run wires out the front of the shell and under the bed to tap into source wires there.
