2001 4.3l Hard Start (long Turnover)

Hi all,

I have a 2001 silverado with a 4.3L engine. It has a hard time starting as in it turns over for a long time before finally starting. It sometimes help if I turn the key a few times before trying to start it and then while it's turning over, step on the gas a little to get it going. Usually it can be started again fairly easily right after it has been started or has been running for a while (warm). It sometimes backfires when it starts and it sounds like it is fighting itself to get started or is starving for fuel.

Once the engine is started it generally runs fine, sometimes it has a very slight rough idle. It accelerates fine and has no trouble staying running.

The Fuel pump was replaced about 3 years or 40,000 miles ago. I checked the fuel pressure and it's between 50 and 54 psi. When I screwed the guage on to the schrader valve after sitting all night it read 50 psi and when i started it up it was steady between 52 an 54 psi.

I have replaced spark plugs, wires, rotor and cap.

I replaced the Crank Shaft Position sensor

I cleaned out the EGR valve

What should I try to test or replace next?

Edited to add:

I took it to a shop a few months ago for an unrelated problem (it had not started the hard start problem yet) and was told the only code was for valve timing being off.

I have been using a Chilton's manual and Haynes plus what ever resources I can find online
