Hi, I am new to the site. I just purchased a 2004 silverado 2500hd. I have a daystar leveling kit with the shock extenders I plan to install. I want to buy the XD spy wheels, which have specs 17 x 9 4.5bs or -12. I want to run 285 70 17 tires preferably a MT tire. They also have this wheel in a 17 x 8 with the factory backspace of 5.21 What do you all think? Which ones should I go with? I would like them to stick out a little, but not wanting any hard rubbing that would require cutting bumper, or rolling fenders. Plastic trimming is okay!

Thank You

This post is a GMC running the same spec wheels, 17 x 9 with the -12 offset 4.5bs. He mentions he had to trim some, but doesn't mention if he has a leveling kit or not, or cranked up the tb's. I love the look, and imagine this is how I want my stance to be, but don't know how much work will have to be done to prevent any rubbing.

TO some this may seem a common, easy question to answer. To me I'm about to order and don't want to make a 1600.00 mistake.

Well first off welcome!! Second The GMC front lower valance requires much more trimming than the chevy requires just because of the design. The lower valance on the GMC's curves under farther. I imagine you will need to trim the same amount on the drivers rear side of the fenderwell which is just a plastic liner. All in all it was easy to do not to much trimming and worth the end result!!! BTW I really miss my truck!

Thanks Brandon, Your truck really looked good. I took a chance and ordered the wheels today, same specs as yours was. 17 x 9 -12. I plan on going with a pretty aggressive looking tire, either the fierce attitude, or maybe play it safe with the good year duratrac. A lot of money either way. I get so nervous when I spend that much money and not having the confidence they will fit. I guess I will remain nervous until I get them on them mounted. Thanks Again I'm sure I'll be around here a lot now. After 15 years a Ford fan, this is my first Chevy and so far I love it!!!

Well glad you got your head out of your ass and came to the good side!!! And i mean that jokingly... in some ways  . Thanks I really loved my truck and the way it looked You will be happy with the results once it is done. These GMT800's can fit some meats under them with little trimming. Post Pics when you are done!!!

You ran 285 70 17's right? would that be the most I can get under there with the wheels and a leveling kit you think? would love 35's and a little suspension lift but 2 kids and a wife limits that. lol on the plus side, my 3 year old loves daddy's big truck!

Pics of my truck, This is it in just purchased state. The BS alum antenna was first to go. I think the chrome mirror covers, rain guards, and bugshield are gone next. May replace with black ones. New 17 x 9 XD Spy wheels are in the mail!!! Daystar leveling kit in my laundry room awaiting new wheels and tires. I'm looking at the fierce attitude or dura trac tires in 285/70/17. any other recommendations on tires or size? What will fit without having the bicycle tire look?

Nice truck Craig! Yeah the 285's will be your best bet with just a leveling kit. I haven't heard of those tires but they most likely are made by a major manufacturer and worth a shot because 770 is a hell of a deal. I know what you mean my 3.5 year old daughter cried when the dealership drove my truck away to the back lot. Let me know what you decide, im home from vacation so ill be checking in more often.

I lived out in Cali for a while and they had Big O tires out there, they were popular. Nobody from around here has heard of them. The Hercules tires are popular with the locals here. How do you feel about running MT tires for the looks of it? I really like an aggressive looking tire, but I know they will wear less on the highway. I think a lot of people run MT tires for the looks. Should I stick with an all terrain what do you think? 8 lugs bit me in the butt today, ordered 150.00 worth of lug nuts! If I went with an A/T it would have to be the good year wrangler Dura Tracs, but they will cost about 300.00 more.

Well I like them both types of tires. My brother has 285 70 17's on his 04 tahoe, they are the hankook dynapro mt's and he has 30K on them and they still look great. The only thing will be road noise, an MT will have more than a AT. I have a feeling that those tires will be just as quiet as the goodyears would be just because of the tread design. They look like they will clean out well and have some siping for grip on ice. The only time an AT will shine over a MT is on ice in my opinion.

Okay, after going around and round with a tire dealer about load rating, (He said if the truck calls "E" load tires I have to run only "E" tires. I told him this makes no sense, I'm stepping up from a 245 to a 285 and the load rating in a "D" tire is more than the 245 "E" Tire. He wouldn't understand! I then went to discount tire direct and ordered the Good Year dura trac's in a 285 70 17 'D" load! I read mixed reviews about them, but I'll take a chance, I don't ever plan on doing any towing, but if I want to know I can! lol

What a douchebag! if you look on that graph for those tires the "E" rated 265's have the same load rating as the "D" 285's!

Well today went to tackle the leveling kit, I have the c clamp stye tool, that all works fine. Got the bolts out. But the problem is the keys are rusted solid to the torsion bars! I sea foamed like crazy, nothing. I beat and banged. no luck. Any body got any ideas? If you need me i'll be digging through forums!
