Leaking Transfer Case NP246

I have had several pump rub problems and have jb welded them. I noticed the case started leaking again and this time it is leaking on top of the rear output housing where the rear seal is. So, I dropped the drive shaft and replaced the seal, but the leak is still there. I pulled the drive shaft out again and looked to see if there was a crack or if the seal didnt seat properly. My question is: can I use a gasket sealer and put it around the seal? I dont see how the rear seal actually seals anything without some type of sealant material....

Thanks

removing the seal with a seal removal tool improperly can leave a gouge in the case ,

yes,, remove the seal or replace it and put some anarobic sealant on the outer diameter of the seal and install on a VERY clean housing ...

but first ,replace the rear t case half or have it welded on the inside ,with a new anti wear tab

what you are doing now is a crap fix ,,,my 2 cents

take it off and put some hi temp RTV silicone gasket maker in there..i ALWAYS do that NEVER have any leaks very inexpenive and a D.I.Y. fix right at home

Thanks guys. I was just about to take it in to the shop but I will try the sealer around the around (and get a new seal as well).
