Is this a good buy?

An old high school buddy of mine is selling his truck, and I'm thinking of buying it.   It's not in the best shape; small rust patch on the rear fender, interior needs new dash and flooring, needs a new windshield, needs retinting, needs brake work done and needs some adjustment in the steering to fix the excessive play, and it could use exhaust work - I wanna put headers and complete 3" on it anyways

The things going for it - Lift kit is ~1 year old, new shocks, new tires, NICE new Aluminium wheels, 40K on new 350 w/ 4bbl, Body in B+ shape, 4 spd Manual (major bonus) with new clutch,

All in all, it's a SWEEEEEET Truck, and I don't think the price is all bad at ?,000, and I may be able to talk him down a few hundred to cover some of the repairs to get it up to my standards.   I think with a little TLC, it could be a very nice ride.

What's your guys' opinion?

Thanks,

-Mike

Sounds high for a 20 year old 4x4. Since it has a lift, it is safe to assume that it has been abused off-road. That's a killer on a 1/2 ton chassis.

I agree with Friz.  Seems pretty high for all the things listed.  Personally, I wouldn't buy a truck that has a lift and all that one it.  There is a saying to not trust anything unless you did it yourself, that could apply when it comes to trucks.  In my opinion, putting all those extras like that on decreases, not increases value.  Tread carefully on a truck like this.

I wouldn't buy from highschool friends, kids, or younger ones period.  I perfer old old old men/women to buy my vehicles from, most likely they have gotten over doing burnouts n such.  Most of those cars/trucks only require basic maintence.

If you do buy your friends truck, make sure you have an extra grand or so for upkeep that he may not have been bothering to do since hes selling it anyways.

tell'm you'll give him 3500, after all (to almost all) its a stick (not my personal view!).  And rust isn't such a bad thing in MI heh heh, salt's a b*tch on our vehicles.

NOT TRUE--My 63 has 6" lift, never abused off road, very gentle with truck, although it could take it. am 55, not 18 going crazy off road :)

Just an update... I decided not to get the truck for a few reasons...  partially from comments mentioned here, more from advice from my father, and ultimately, from my own lack of "that feeling" that buying it is a good idea.     My main purpose for the truck would be winter use, and since 12.5" wide tires aren't known for their  performance in the snow (a good friend of mine has a Toyota with a 6" lift and 12.5"ers and he's out of control in the snow), and I'm sure I couldn't afford narrower tires for snow.  Another major turn off is I too felt the price was a little high for the condition it was in, and he was unwiling to negotiate on the price

Thanks for your help and imput fellas! :)
